While Mu Qing and Xi Ju Hai were analyzing possible ways to allow their side to deal with Feng Bai Xiao’s plan, Mei Chao Bing and Song Mu had started their own preparations. Right now, they were sitting face to face on the far side of the hill that couldn’t be seen from the town. Mei Chao Bing had taken in spiritual energy, paying even more attention than usual to the process, and then passed it over to Song Mu. He hadn’t really gained any critical insight though.

Furrowing his brows, Mei Chao Bing looked down at his hands. “I never even suspected that I might have a special constitution. Now, I don’t even know if what I’ve been doing all these years is the same for me as it is for others or if I have been subconsciously making use of this.”

He had always been counted as a talent in the sect. Being able to reach the nascent soul stage before the age of thirty was basically unheard of. Previously, he had thought that the reason for this was his Master’s strict handling of his practice in the past coupled with a unique motivation after his Master’s betrayal and his realization that he had feelings for Yun Bei Fen. Now, he wasn’t so sure anymore.

Could it be that he had always used the constitution given by his family to achieve this result? He couldn’t tell because he had always had this constitution and it wasn’t like he could easily compare it to others. Cultivating — while following general guidelines — was still a very personal process, after all. There was no saying how exactly it looked inside another person’s body. Not for somebody who wasn’t well-versed in medical arts at least.

Song Mu lowered his gaze to his own hands as well. “If it helps to know, this didn’t feel any different from taking in spiritual energy myself. I can’t feel any distinct quality of the energy either but I guess your constitution wouldn’t come into play much if there is no need for it either. You said all kinds of energy could be used?”

Mei Chao Bing nodded, pulling out of his thoughts. “Yes, and I know experimenting with a different kind would work best but I’m stumped on how to do that. I mean, I suppose there have to be many different forms of energy but how to sense those and how to take in that energy …” He shook his head and sighed. “I don’t even know where to begin and we don’t have much time.”

Song Mu hummed and fell silent, pondering himself. Different kinds of energy … He couldn’t think of much but he could at least come up with a starting point. “I suppose spiritual energy is naturally made up of different kinds of energy since it infuses everything around us. There should be a kind of … more primal energy there that could probably be harnessed with your constitution.

“It’s difficult to check now with time running out but do you remember ever feeling something special during one of the missions when you were younger? I mean, we visited lots of places back then and when I think of some of the wilder landscapes, they always gave me a certain feeling that is hard to describe. Could that be a slightly different type of energy?”

Mei Chao Bing nodded. He couldn’t say for sure from his memories but this whole matter had reminded him of the magical box Yan Hong Min had created since he first heard of it. The box was also said to be able to take in every kind of energy so … this should be similar?

Ah, it really was a pity that they couldn’t quickly reach the Teng Yong Sect. Just a few more months and the array leading back and forth could have been established. Now, they had to make do with what they had. This also meant that it was impossible to ask Yun Bei Fen’s second senior martial brother. Based on their conversation and what Song Mu had just said though … “I don’t think you’re wrong. I just don’t know what to do with that idea.”

Song Mu smiled wryly. “It would be easier to try at a place that gave us more options.” He pondered, tapping his knee with his fingertips. Where could they find a place that would have that kind of … elemental energy? It had to be nearby as time was already running out. The border region wasn’t rich in anything special though. Most of it was just loose sand thanks to the changes brought about by the lack of spiritual energy the demonic faction had caused. Unless there was some kind of sandstorm though, he didn’t think this would allow Mei Chao Bing to the effect of his constitution.

Song Mu faintly furrowed his brows. Sandstorm … It was unlikely for one to appear and while you could cause one by using your spiritual energy, that would simply cause it to be infused with more spiritual energy, making it harder for Mei Chao Bing to discern the different types of energy.

Thinking of how one could be caused though, he had a subtle feeling that there might be another way. “Say … the air currents further above differ from down here. Do you think it would help to fly up? If the gale is strong enough, maybe you can figure something out from that.” He raised his brows, not sure if this could really work. It was his only idea so far though so he could only hope.

Mei Chao Bing raised his head to the sky and finally sighed. “I don’t know but we have nothing to lose if we try, right? Let’s go then. Be careful though, it’ll be difficult to control if something goes wrong.” Still, their cultivation level was high so even if they fell from that height, it wouldn’t hurt them too much. Thus, there was no real danger in trying.
