The difference between the energy he usually used to cultivate and the vengeful one he took in now was so big, it was hard to imagine that the latter was reformed from the energy left over by human cultivators after their death.

Mei Chao Bing almost physically shuddered when the energy entered his body but then forcibly calmed down. It might feel foreign but that was only because he wasn’t used to this. It might be that he could use this energy without issue. Anyway, this was a gamble he had to make.

He took a deep breath and slowly calmed down. Keeping the energy where it was for a moment, he looked out for any changes to both the new energy and his own. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to change. However his constitution worked, it sure wasn’t activated just by taking energy in.

Having made sure of this, Mei Chao Bing started to circulate the energy. Knowing the risk, he only did so slowly, continuously looking for any changes that might occur. This time, he really found a difference: Bit by bit, the vengeful energy seemed to assimilate into the energy around it, becoming just like the regular energy in his body that had been transformed from the spiritual energy he took in from his surroundings.

Mei Chao Bing didn’t immediately stop and instead continued to circulate the energy until it reached his dantian. Only then did he pause to look for further changes. He checked all over his body, examining every bit of energy, every line it had traveled past, and finally even his dantian itself. Still, he found no difference from before. Either the changes were so minuscule that he truly couldn’t detect them yet or his constitution was indeed effective, letting him take in this energy at will.

He really wasn’t sure but there wasn’t anything else he could experiment with. He simply circulated his energy for another round, trying to see if something would change, and then opened his eyes again. Seeing Song Mu and Da Hei watch him closely and Yun Bei Fen look at him from a few steps away with a curious expression, he smiled faintly. “I’m alright. From the looks of it, my constitution can indeed deal with different kinds of energy. I’d like you to check my body over though.”

Usually, the cultivator themselves couldn’t really tell whether they had been infected with vengeful energy. Others were able to pick up on the differences much more easily if they investigated carefully. Thus, it was best to let Song Mu or Da Hei take a look as well just to make sure.

The two of them looked at each other and finally, Da Hei stretched out his hand. “Let me see. Spiritual beasts have a slightly higher threshold to being invaded by vengeful energy.”

Mei Chao Bing nodded and then waited for Da Hei to check. He really didn’t want to cause trouble for either of them in case he had been infected with the vengeful energy but simply didn’t notice so Da Hei being less susceptible to it was good news.

A moment later, Da Hei already pulled his hand back and shook his head. “I can’t find anything out of the ordinary so it shouldn’t have affected you. Since that’s the case, what now? Are you done with your experiments?”

Mei Chao Bing didn’t answer immediately and instead pondered. Finally, he glanced up at the sky to check the time. His expression turned a little complicated and he tapped his knee, wondering if his idea was good or not.

Song Mu had been watching him so he naturally noticed that his friend seemed to be torn about something. “What did you think of? Can we help?”

Mei Chao Bing sighed in response. “Well, I was deliberating if maybe we can make use of this. I mean … if all of our previous guesses are true and my Master wants to use the energy from the southern chasm to have the elites of the demonic faction advance, then … what if we were to act before he can?”

In fact, he had already cleaned up more than half of that place with the magical box so if they were indeed right about his Master’s plan, then they had hindered him greatly. It was just that he didn’t want to say this directly since this would be most helpful if it stayed a secret. Thus, the fewer people knew about it the better. This also included Song Mu.

Still, taking away that energy could only help with reducing the amount of energy his Master could let the demonic faction gain. It wouldn’t change that they could make some progress while the righteous side stayed at the same level. If he acted first though and helped a couple of their talents advance this way … they could basically reverse the situation his Master wanted to see happening.

Song Mu nodded but also thought of the same problem that Mei Chao Bing had realized. “It’s a good idea but the time is limited, isn’t it?”

“Mn. Supposedly, there are only a few days left. We don’t know anything more exact than that yet so it might be good to wait for senior martial brother Zhi to return first. But then, if we wait, there will be even less time. I’m not sure if I dare to take that gamble.”

The three of them fell silent, trying to come up with some kind of workaround for this issue.

Finally, Da Hei spoke up again. “Before we talk about this … there is still the question of quantity. Yes, you can use that energy but to have several talents level up, it would need a large amount. You still don’t know if you can support that or do you?”

At this, Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows. Right, that question was still unanswered. Thinking about it though … it should be the case?
