Mei Chao Bing finally nodded. “I see. Well, it’s alright as long as they didn’t hurt you. You … keep holding out for a bit. I’ll get you out of here.”

Yun Bei Fen nodded without the slightest hesitation. Clearly, despite the situation, he trusted that Mei Chao Bing could indeed do as he said.

Seeing him like this, Mei Chao Bing only felt worse. What could he really do at this point in time? He couldn’t win against his Master. That much was obvious after actually seeing him again. He also couldn’t use the magical box he had been hoping would be his last chance to turn things around. In that case, he could only do as his Master asked him to but … this didn’t seem to be possible either if his guesses about his constitution were right.

He got to his feet and raised his head, closing his eyes for a moment while adjusting his state. He couldn’t worry right now. He had to keep as calm as possible and take things one step at a time. Only that way did he have the slightest chance to make it out of here with Yun Bei Fen and find a way to deal with his Master.

Somewhat regaining his bearing, he opened his eyes again and turned around. He didn’t walk up to his Master and stood where he was though. He simply didn’t feel comfortable unless he was between his Master and Yun Bei Fen. Even though he couldn’t stop it if his Master decided to attack him, at least Yun Bei Fen wouldn’t have to face it alone.

Raising his head and looking at him from the distance, he felt complicated. This was a man he had once looked up to a lot. Even though he had thought his Master was harsh, he had never thought badly of him until the day he killed Elder Wu and left the Teng Yong Sect. Now, the person still looked the same but his previous reverence toward him had crumbled completely, and only resentment was left over. “What do you want?”

Feng Bai Xiao who had been silently cultivating all the time as if he didn’t notice the newcomer at all finally opened his eyes. He turned his head to look at Mei Chao Bing, his expression calm. “I suppose you already know that. Haven’t you been investigating my plans all this time?”

Mei Chao Bing wasn’t surprised. Naturally, his Master knew. It wasn’t like they had ever pretended not to investigate and as long as there were disciples from any of the four great righteous sects around, this would be their goal: to find out what exactly the Wu Yun Sect and the rest of the demonic faction were up to. “We have but why don’t you humor me? Surely, there is something you want since you went to the pain of kidnapping Fen’er.”

Feng Bai Xiao stared at him quietly as if trying to decide whether he would waste much of his time if he told him. In the end, the corners of his lips curled faintly. “Alright. You should have discovered that you have been blessed with a very special gift. I want you to use it to help me achieve a long-standing goal of mine.”

Mei Chao Bing nodded. Yes, this was what they had known. Well, not that his Master had been very forthcoming with the details. This description was about as vague as it got. He clearly didn’t intend to give him any chance to find a way to sabotage this.

Feng Bai Xiao raised his brows and glanced at the barrier of spiritual energy behind him. “From the very beginning, you were destined to lose this fight. Now more than ever. Why not give up and simply do as I say? You won’t have any disadvantages.”

Mei Chao Bing huffed. “Like I didn’t when you betrayed the Teng Yong Sect?”

Feng Bai Xiao continued to smile lightly. “You can’t betray the sect you have infiltrated and it was you who sounded the gong, wasn’t it? If not for that, everything could have been solved cleanly. You did that to yourself. Even more so when you refused to follow me to the Wu Yun Sect.

“It could have been different, you know? I did always consider you my disciple, after all. Even though I had to teach you the techniques of the Teng Yong Sect, there is no reason not to learn a few more things in your life. You could have made up for your lack of knowledge about the skills of the Wu Yun Sect in no time. You were always talented, after all.”

Mei Chao Bing clenched his fists. He had often tried to imagine how it would be if he saw his Master again. Most of the time, he had thought they would simply come to blows and fight it out until only one of them or maybe neither of them was left standing. Of course, with the difference in their cultivation realms, that was absolutely impossible. Still, he never would have thought his Master could spew such insufferable nonsense.

He ground his teeth before restoring his calm and smiled back. “I’m sorry, but I wasn’t interested in the Wu Yun Sect back then and I am not now either. So I’m afraid I’ll have to reject that offer.”

“I expected nothing else. Still, you should be willing to do as I say, considering that otherwise …” He lightly motioned to the array and didn’t bother to speak the rest of the sentence.

Obviously, this was a threat. If Mei Chao Bing didn’t follow his words, Yun Bei Fen would be the one to suffer. How so … he’d rather not imagine that. Anyway, no matter what it was, he wouldn’t allow it to happen. In this case, he really had no other choice.
