With everything back in place and the message ready to be released, they were faced with the next problem: Moving to a place they currently couldn’t see while having to think of the same exact spot. When Luo Lin thought of this, his expression became complicated. He was very happy to have an ability, especially one so versatile but … the limitations also made it really difficult to use.

It wasn’t an issue for him that he needed to be together with Shen Lei to make use of it. Anyway, he hardly left the sect and if he did, it was usually together with his lover. On this kind of dangerous mission, it was even more impossible to move on his own and he would naturally stick to the side of the man who wanted to protect him at any cost. But only requiring Shen Lei’s presence and having to keep their thoughts synchronous were two different matters altogether. To be honest, he started to dread what types of surprises he would find when they started to explore the other abilities he had copied so far and whatever else he might chance upon in the future.

Luo Lin took a deep breath and turned to his lover, reaching up and grasping his lapel. “How should we do this? Go back to the previous spot first?”

Shen Lei thought for a moment and then nodded. “Yes. That way, we can first check out the space in front of this tent again. After that, let’s go from there.”

Luo Lin hummed and then reached down to take Shen Lei’s hand. They both closed their eyes, thought of the place next to the other tent where they had been hiding before, and then took a short step forward. Anyway, the distance traveled and the actual one they used had nothing to do with each other and the dreamscape was only so big. It was best to stay on the spot as much as possible.

Luo Lin carefully opened a small window to peer outside and then closed it just as fast, nodding faintly. “Yes, we’re back at the right spot. In front of Elder Fa’s tent are only the same two disciples as before.”

“Let’s check the other direction?”

Luo Lin didn’t say anything and simply created openings on the other two sides, closing them as soon as he was sure of what was out there. “I couldn’t see anyone. The disciples should either be in their tents or maybe something else is going on. I would suggest going to the tent in the western direction from here and moving around the outer part of the camp first. Maybe we’ll find more clues.”

Shen Lei nodded, still holding Luo Lin’s hand. He really regretted that they hadn’t checked the ability more closely while still in their own sect’s camp with people they could trust around them. Now, they could only go about things in such a roundabout way. But then, maybe it wasn’t that bad either. This would help Luo Lin and him to develop the kind of understanding that was necessary to actually make use of this ability in battle.

“Let me have a look at the spot.”

Luo Lin opened another window and the two of them peered out. They weren’t sure if they could be heard so they both simply observed the space up ahead without saying a word.

When Shen Lei was sure that he had a good enough impression of the place to communicate his ideas, he squeezed Luo Lin’s hand to signal that he could close the opening.

Luo Lin followed suit and turned to his lover. “I think the spot directly at the corner of the tent would be best. The one from where we can still see the Elder’s tent but also observe the surroundings on the other side.”

Shen Lei nodded slowly. “That should give us the best overview.” The approach was rather cautious though. It wasn’t what he would have chosen. If it was up to him alone, he would have traveled to the farthest spot he could still see. That way, they could move forward faster, get a quicker understanding of their surroundings, and then act as soon as possible.

Even though Shen Lei’s thoughts differed from his lover’s, he didn’t suggest going with his own idea. His approach was based on his own ability. He knew many skills and had a lot of experience. Moving and acting quickly was not dangerous to him and could almost be considered second nature. It was different for Luo Lin though. His fiance stayed in the sect for the most part and had only done a few missions throughout the years when he reached a bottleneck in his cultivation.

When working with a partner or a group, it was always important to take everyone’s cultivation realm, skills, and experience into consideration. Then, the plan needed to be made in a way that the weakest member of the group could deal with it. In their case, this was obviously the case as well even if the ‘mission’ they were currently on only consisted of moving around the Zhen Yan Sect’s camp. So if Luo Lin didn’t feel ready to move faster and needed more time to adjust, then naturally, he wouldn’t force him.

On the contrary, this should be seen as a chance. Luo Lin needed more experience in general and the two of them needed the experience with this specific skill that they had gained thanks to Luo Lin’s ability. By performing more of these movements through the dreamscape and choosing spots together, their understanding of each other’s approach to this skill would progress much faster.

So really, it was best not to be too eager for quick success. A slow growth was much better for them. Anyway, while they might not have much time, they should have at least these few additional minutes. At the end of the day, if they were better equipped to handle the final battle, it would be best for everyone. A slight delay now meant almost nothing.
