Fa Ai Jun noticed the letter as soon as it appeared. It wasn’t because she felt any of the energy or saw the dreamscape or any of the other reasons the two disciples had imagined. No, it was simply because Shen Lei had thrown the letter directly at her right foot. How could she not notice?

She looked down, raised her brows, and finally picked up the envelope. She quietly nodded at the disciple who was still telling her about the underground hall they had found earlier in the day, listening while she pulled out the letter from inside. Glancing at the few words written on the paper, her brows raised even higher: [Message from the Teng Yong Sect. Please see us in your tent.]

Huh. This was a bit odd. Usually, wouldn’t someone from the Teng Yong Sect come to the entrance of the camp and request to see her? Even if they didn’t … how come this letter suddenly appeared here?

She didn’t react immediately and instead pondered for a moment. It seemed odd for the Teng Yong Sect to do something like this. So could it be … that this was just some kind of ploy? Had the demonic faction somehow sent this letter to lure her to a place of their choosing and do away with her? That … well, that seemed like something they’d do but her tent was in the middle of the camp. It truly didn’t seem like a good place to kill somebody.

Elder Fa sighed deeply, folded the letter back up, and stuffed it back into the envelope. Finally, she looked up at the disciple who had just finished recounting the last details of their discovery. “That does sound like something we should investigate more closely. The other sects likely need to be informed as well.”

Yes, what her disciples had found was a hall far beneath the ground. According to their description, there was no door on either side and no corridors actually led there. As for how they had managed to get there … Well, somebody had accidentally activated a transportation array while looking at another clue and got transported there. It was their luck that they had a transportation talisman on their person at that time or they would have been trapped because that hall in the ground didn’t come with a corresponding transportation array back.

To describe the whole thing in one word: eerie. This was the impression she got from how the disciple recounted the experience and it was also what the expressions of the other disciples who finally saw the hall said. Going there obviously made them uncomfortable but they hadn’t wanted to come back with nothing further to report. In the end, despite investigating more closely, they hadn’t been able to find out what that hall was for though.

Fa Ai Jun tapped her index finger and thumb together, her eyes narrowing. Such an odd discovery and then an odd message arriving just when she was told about this. It seemed more and more like a ploy when thinking about it this way. If this was indeed the case, it might be dangerous but then, this might also be the only way to figure out what the other side was planning. After all, even after such a long time, they still hadn’t figured that out.

She looked up at the sky, thinking of Mei Chao Bing and his little fiance. Since they had come by the last time, she hadn’t heard anything from them. Who knew what the situation looked like on their side?

Oh. Right, she really hadn’t heard from them for some while. Could it be … this was actually a covert way of contacting her? It really seemed too odd but then, Mei Chao Bing’s identity was a bit special. It made sense that he wouldn’t want to walk up to the main gate of their camp and tell anyone he was here. So maybe this letter was some kind of precaution so others wouldn’t see him? Although she still wasn’t sure how he had managed to get it this close to her without her noticing. If it truly was him, she should ask.

Not knowing what the truth was made it difficult to decide what to do. She didn’t want to get Mei Chao Bing into trouble but she also wouldn’t put herself needlessly into danger. Pondering for a moment, she finally motioned at the disciples. “Well, I’ll discuss with Elder Ximen. You guys gather the others and wait for further instructions. We will likely go back there to take another look together.”

“Yes, Elder Fa.” The disciples saluted and then went off.

Fa Ai Jun continued to stand on the spot for a while and finally sighed. Well, she’d better get Ximen Chang. If there really was an ambush, then they’d have a much better chance of dealing with it together. If it wasn’t, then she trusted him enough to not worry about Mei Chao Bing’s identity causing a problem.

Having made up her mind, she went over to his tent, waving for him to come out. “Our disciples found something. Plus, someone from the Teng Yong Sect supposedly came over but that also seems odd.”

Ximen Chang raised his brows, not sure what to think. From the way she had just said this … “This and that are related?”

“I am afraid it might be. I might also be thinking too much though. I don’t know. These days, I feel on edge.”

“Who doesn’t?” Ximen Chang furrowed his brows. He had had the same feeling for the past days. This was likely the intuition cultivators tended to cultivate throughout the years of their lives. It was their subconscious sending them a warning that there were signs they had overlooked or not put together and if they didn’t do so soon and proceeded with utmost caution, they would come to harm or even meet an untimely end. In that regard, one really couldn’t ignore a situation that seemed odd from the very beginning. “Well, let’s go and see for ourselves what is going on.”
