Song Yu Zheng froze. For one, he felt that he had indeed overlooked something important there, and two, he wasn’t sure what to make of the suggestion. “Me? Ask senior martial brother Mu for a fight?” In general, this shouldn’t be a problem but … “Then wouldn’t he think I am interested in your sister? I don’t want him to think he has another love rival …”

Zhi Guan shook his head. “I don’t think he would.”

Song Yu Zheng pursed his lips. Wouldn’t he? But it seemed like he might … Either way, even if that wasn’t the case, there was another issue. “The plan is supposed to start in the next few days. He’d probably think I was willful if I asked for a fight now.”

Zhi Guan hummed, trying to make his expression seem somewhat convinced. This was his plan so he naturally couldn’t show any disappointment now. “I suppose that won’t work then.”

Song Yu Zheng nodded slowly but then clicked his tongue. “Ah, well, don’t mind that. It was just a random thought I had anyway. I am sure there will be chances to figure it out later.”

Zhi Guan inclined his head and didn’t pursue the topic further. While he would love to somehow exhaust Song Yu Zheng before the battle, he couldn’t be too obvious. In this case, Song Yu Zheng was the one who had been curious and wanted to compare how he measured up to Mu Qing so it wasn’t a problem to go along with it and make a suggestion. Now that Song Yu Zheng had decided not to pursue this idea further though, he also had to let go. There were just some things that would seem too obvious if one insisted on them.

With the topic of Mu Qing and Zhi Guan’s sister having been exhausted, there was a lull in the conversation. The trio from the demonic faction didn’t know Zhi Guan too well so apart from the fact that he cared about his sister and his sword arts, they had nothing to go off when choosing a topic.

Song Yu Zheng who also tended to focus on his cultivation, had a difficult time coming up with anything. He gritted his teeth and finally gave Wen Xiang a look, seeing help. This guy was usually a bit better when it came to these things so he could only rely on him now.

Wen Xiang was also at a loss though. What could they ask about? His sect? But that might seem too deliberate. They wanted to poach him but this kind of thing couldn’t be done too blatantly. While loyalty had a slightly different meaning among the people of the demonic faction compared to the cultivators of the righteous side, most still wouldn’t leave their sects easily. To them, it was a question of identity. So the actual question was: Just how involved was Zhi Lin in his sect?

He pondered for a moment, wondering how to find out.

One part was certainly his cultivation. Judging by the short demonstration back at the headquarters, he was very familiar with the sword arts of the Yu She Sect and he seemed to care about that. He was open to learning other practices though which should help.

Another big part was his sister but that would be taken care of if she really fell in love with their senior martial brother Mu. They simply had to make use of the current opportunity and ensure that this was the case. Surely, if the feelings were strong enough, she’d leave the Yu She Sect at once and become a part of their Wu Yun Sect. Then, there would be one more thing to bind Mu Qing to them and one less thing keeping Zhi Lin in the Yu She Sect.

Apart from these … he might have other relationships in the Yu She Sect he cared about?

As soon as this thought came up, Wen Xiang felt a little worried. Setting Zhi Lin’s sister up with Mu Qing was a good thing even apart from poaching him. It was only half the goal though so he would be reluctant to let this guy slip away because of somebody else. So now, they should carefully figure out how his other connections in the sect were.

Making up his mind, Wen Xiang gave a faint smile. “Say … your sister found herself that awkward boyfriend but is now headed for a better match. It’s a good thing no matter how you look at it. If she were to spend more time with senior martial brother Mu though, she wouldn’t be much at the Yu She Sect any longer. Would you be alright with that?” He didn’t directly say that she would leave the sect. That, too, seemed to be a bit early to pronounce. For now, he’d sound out Zhi Lin’s ideas in general.

Next to him, Song Yu Zheng nodded faintly, satisfied with this direction of questioning.

Zhi Guan who naturally didn’t really need to worry about that raised his brows though. “Why wouldn’t I?”

Wen Xiang smiled. “Well, you seem to care a lot about her. Can you rest assured if she is gone a lot of the time?”

Zhi Guan thought of Luo Lin again and shook his head. “Not if I know that her partner is a trustworthy person. He will take care of her even if I’m not there.”

“Mn.” Wen Xiang nodded. This made sense but he felt reluctant to agree. He had hoped Zhi Guan would say he’d check up on her. Although … these things didn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Since Zhi Guan hadn’t brought it up himself, he simply smiled and made the offer. “Well, you can always come to the Wu Yun Sect and check up on her. We’d love to have you around. We can … exchange some pointers and share some stories with you. It’s just … do you have somebody back at the Yu She Sect that would be difficult to leave behind?”

Zhi Guan blinked his eyes. Have somebody? As in … some type of hostage or prisoner?
