After transforming the spiritual energy, the twisted feeling vanished but because he was continuously taking in new energy, the revolting feeling in his body never really stopped. Not even mentioning that he didn’t want to help his Master and this person from the demonic faction, just based on this feeling alone, he wished he could simply stop. Just what was this energy?
He opened his eyes and stared at the black stone that was only a step away. The energy that emanated from it differed from everything else he had ever felt. Even the vengeful energy the chasm had originally been filled with couldn’t be compared to it. And this seemed to be the farthest place it had spread to. The person in the center of it … how had they cultivated this kind of energy? He shuddered just thinking about it.
Mei Chao Bing closed his eyes again and tried to calm down. He couldn’t change it. Since his Master wanted this energy, then he’d give it to him. No matter how vile it felt, as long as it could save his Fen’er, he’d bear with it.
He continuously transferred the transformed energy but the feeling took its toll. Maybe only an hour had passed when he stopped, retracted his hand, and took a deep breath.
Feng Bai Xiao who had been standing aside immediately stared at him. “What are you doing?”
Lei Chen also opened his eyes and glanced at him but kept quiet.
Mei Chao Bing’s brows furrowed. Even if he said that he needed a break, he didn’t think his Master would simply agree. He rubbed his fingers against his palms and shook himself, trying to get rid of the feeling. He turned to look at Lei Chen and his expression turned complicated. This person was still in the foundation establishment stage, not much higher than Yun Bei Fen. To get him anywhere … they might need years.
He hesitated for another moment but then turned to his Master. “This is taking rather long.” Surely, that couldn’t be his Master’s intention, could it be? Even though he hadn’t been told about the specific plan if he was supposed to get these two to the threshold of ascension, then the amount of energy that would be necessary … it was enormous. And even if you had a deep source of energy, absorbing that energy and transmitting it would take a considerable amount of time. This was especially true at the lower levels when the body wasn’t ready to accept more energy at once.
Feng Bai Xiao only narrowed his eyes though. “Then maybe you shouldn’t waste time.”
Mei Chao Bing gave him a look but didn’t want to argue for fear of what his Master might do. Right now, he had stopped so that could be called wasting time. But apart from that, were they making much progress?
Seeing his expression, Lei Chen finally bothered to project his voice again. “No need to hold back. I am prepared to receive as much energy as you are able to transmit at once.”
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows but finally nodded. He wasn’t keen on taking in that much but then, he had to transform the same amount anyway so it might be better to do it fast. “Very well.” He took another deep breath and then slowly inhaled before taking Lei Chen’s hand again and starting another circle.
This time, he didn’t hold back. Just like he had at the time when he tested his ability with Song Mu and Da Hei, he took in as much energy as he could, letting it circulate once, and then pushing it over to the other person.
Unexpectedly, Lei Chen didn’t seem to be harmed at all. When Mei Chao Bing glanced at him, his expression was as calm as the surface of a lake with not the slightest ripple in sight. Mei Chao Bing turned back when he saw this and simply continued.
Actually, he shouldn’t be surprised. He had guessed before that Lei Chen had originally had a higher level. Usually, as you continued to cultivate, the spiritual veins in your body would expand. Even if your level regressed because of injury, your meridians wouldn’t change. This meant that if he was right about Lei Chen, then his spirit veins could indeed support this amount of spiritual energy.
It also meant that originally, Lei Chen should have been in the nascent soul stage as well and likely roughly as far as he was now. Otherwise, he either could have supported even more energy or would have felt some slight discomfort at least.
Either way, it didn’t matter. Mei Chao Bing didn’t think about it any longer and simply continued to supply him with more energy. Now that he knew that he didn’t have to hold back, he went for the maximum amount of energy he could stomach. It still didn’t feel good and his own expression was likely worse than Lei Chen’s but at least he’d finish sooner. And frankly, whether he transformed more energy or not, the feeling was equally horrible.
He transformed energy for another hour before he stopped again. He could feel his Master’s gaze at the back of his head as soon as he did and sighed faintly. Despite the constitution that he had apparently inherited, this wasn’t easy to bear. No wonder that nobody had ever tried to go for this energy before even though the person inside was apparently a sitting duck.
And yes, that was exactly how they seemed: Even though he had been absorbing their energy for two hours already and extracted a sizable amount, he hadn’t been attacked. He hadn’t even felt any resistance that suggested the person in there was trying to defend themselves. It seemed odd but then, maybe this was an effect of the array. Well, that or maybe they were still so strong that this was only a minor amount of energy to them. It was hard to say.
