They were both running towards the green exit button. The bright green color seemed like calling them. Calling them to move faster. Ji An could hear the running footsteps behind her getting faster and nearer. She yanked open the heavy door and pushed both of them inside. The other woman had started to go, aiming for the rooftop.
"Hey! Go down! We can't do anything in the rooftop. He might push us and make it like suicide." Hearing Ji An quick explanation, the woman's face turned paler. And she decided to follow Ji An's instruction blindly. Ji An even amazed with her reasoning, she did not expect she could be so smart in the middle of crisis like this.
Both women rushed out to go down. In a nick of time, the exit door opened and the slim bodyguard entered menacingly. He had a bluetooth device tagged on his ear. His gaze looked down, from the sound made by Ji An and the other woman and started his chase. His trickling blood had been wiped with his hands. The smear of the blood could be seen on his neckline and corner of his white shirt.
He was running down towards both of the girls. Although he was injured, he was fitter and had vigorous training to be bodyguard. Ji An understood all this too well. Had been chased for the second time in her life within short period of time, it was indeed remarkable. Ji An forced the woman to run faster and faster. She could see the bodyguard shadow coming near from the corner of her eyes.
Suddenly, the other woman lost her footing and slipped from the stairs. With no more time to waste, Ji An could only assisted her to stand and together they tried to increase their lowered speed. At this moment, Ji An once again was cursing herself for her lack of exercise. They were both staggering and could see the lobby exit door within their grasp. Just before Ji An could open the heavy door, she felt a surge of power yanked the woman beside her and left her hand empty.
She could hear her scream and Ji An instinctively trying to protect her. Ji An clawed at the bodyguard, kicked his shin and before she could think of anything else, she remembered Ha Na's word of advice. "Ji An, don't forget. No matter which men, they had their weaknesses. Especially the part between their leg, you know what I mean?"
With all her might, Ji An kicked the bodyguard's groin and opened the other door. The door was facing the back of the condominium building, instead of lobby. Although the condo was in prime area, the backside of the building was still within alleyway. Since it was not peak period, there was not a lot of people nearby. And, there was no one to ask for help. Noticing a big rubbish bin nearby, slightly covered with big rubbish, it was easy for both slim girls to crouch down and hide.
Ji An felt her feet hurting after she kicked and fought with the bodyguard. Especially with her crouching position. She could feel the dull pain started to throb, slowly and steady. Realizing her hurting feet might delayed them further and dragged both, Ji An asked the woman to go and save herself.
"You go ahead. My feet is hurting. I will hide somewhere. Go and save yourself."
The other woman, who didn't say a single thing since her pleading request turned slightly to Ji An and hugged her,"Thank you! Thank you so much for saving me." Tears were running down her pale cheek. She wore heavy makeup and her eye liner had smeared all over her crying face. Her pretty face had turned into Sadako, the infamous Japanese ghost from The Ring movie.
Couldn't stand her tears, Ji An patted her shoulder awkwardly and returned the hug and wiped her tears clean.
"I am Song Ji An. Sorry for the late introduction. Here's my name card. Contact me if you need anything."
"A reporter?" The woman eyes widened with shock, but her fingers clutched into Ji An's name card with determination.
"I am Kang Min Young."
"Now, go. Don't stay here for too long. They might still looking around." Ji An nudged her to go and took out her coat. Thinking that it had been a few minutes passed by, and it looked safe to go. "Wear this to cover yourself."
Min Young took her coat, grateful with a total stranger who was willing to go extra miles. She nodded and took her leave, slowly crawling from the dustbin area and trying to make a dash towards the main road.
While a few seconds later, Ji An also crawled back slowly. The dull pain has turned into sharp pain and it was getting worse with every slow movement she made. Ji An massaged her feet slowly and focusing on the pain when she noticed a black car speeding very fast, followed by a loud thudding sound and tire screeching.
Her world stopped and moved very slow, like a slow-motion picture. She crawled and could see Min Young was now lying on the pavement, with blood covering her face. Her eyes, full of pain looking straight at Ji An, begging for help, before the lids slowly closed. The loud thudding sound causing a few people to come out and look around, gathering around Min Young's body with their inquisitive glance. The black car sped up and gone, joining the traffic ahead.
Ji An could feel her world turned upside down. With her pained feet, she crawled towards Min Young and cradled her lifeless body. Ji An could feel Min Young's faint heart beat although she had lost consciousness.
"Someone call 119! Please!" Ji An shouted to the crowd, who immediately took out their phone, calling authorities.
"Min Young-ssi. Wake up." Ji An couldn't feel her physical pain and kept hugging Min Young's warm body, covering her coat all over her, as if her gesture would make Min Young's body warmer. She could even see Min Young's hands still clutching on her name card, unwilling to let it go.
