There were others.

There are a few things that Shin asserts in this story, but they are only narrative settings.

We are not claiming that this is the case in reality.

Please understand this in advance.

There were other reincarnations besides me.

Or, to be more precise, there were other people who recovered memories of their previous lives besides me.

When I examined the characters assigned to the “Citizen’s Certificate,” a high-spec magical tool said to have been made by the genius mage Kono-Massita, who existed in the past, the characters that emerged were, as I had expected, Japanese.

At the moment I saw these characters, I understood the high specs of the Citizen’s Identity Card, but at the same time, several questions arose.

First of all, it had been 200 years since Massita had passed.

From my memory of my previous life, 200 years ago was still the Edo period.

As I recall, Perry arrived in Uraga in 1853, which was more than 30 years before that.

I vaguely determined that Perry’s arrival in Uraga as “No, it was a miscalculation.”

Then, there is another question that comes up.

It is hard to believe that the Japanese of the Edo period, still in seclusion, could come up with a personal authentication system like a citizen’s ID card.

This means that Massita must have been reincarnated from an era close to my previous life.

However, it was two hundred years before I was reincarnated.

What does this mean? Does the time line not matter for reincarnation? Or does time flow differently in this world than in my former world?

It is a mystery of the world itself, including reincarnation.

Only God knows the answer.

The only thing we know about this is what we found out from…

Reincarnation rotates between the earth and this world.

The timeline doesn’t seem to matter.

That’s about it.

Perhaps reincarnation is connected to another world, but I have no way to prove it.

But still, it was the Japanese who happened to be awakened.

Were there reincarnations from other countries?

Even if there were, is it really that common to have memories of a previous life resurrected?

Was there something about me and Massita that was a rare case, a coincidence?

Come to think of it, in the book that Uncle Tom gave me, there were several stories about great men and heroes from the past, in addition to Massita.

Some of those stories were actually about awakened reincarnated people.

Oh, maybe that was…

As I was thinking back to some of the books in my possession, I remembered one book.

It was the story of a man who was active in the Arsehide Sea, a little after the time when Massita was active.

‘Well, I’m pretty sure I brought it with me…’

As I searched through the books on my bookshelf, I recalled the synopsis of the story.

It was the story of a man in the shipping business who made his fortune by sailing the seas in a way that is widely known today but was unthinkable at the time.

His tumultuous life has been turned into a book of stories.

“Ah, there it is!”

I finally found the book I was looking for on the bookshelf and looked at the cover.

“This… is probably an ex-American…”

The title listed there is…

“Captain Sorro and the Eagle.”

The story is about Harry Sorro, a man who built a small, maneuverable sailing ship called the Eagle with a ship’s carpenter and went to sea.

At first, Sorro was ridiculed by his peers for the small size of the ship he built, but he did not mind at all, because he had a secret plan.

That secret was…

He would apply wind magic to the sails of his sailing ships to make them move.

Even today, magic is often thought of as an attack.

People at that time had no idea of using magic to move a ship.

Sorro, who moved ships in a way that no one had ever thought of, was able to move ships faster than any other ship and quickly rose in the shipping business, even though his was a small ship.

However, the road was not smooth sailing, with competitors interfering and pirates attacking during the voyage.

Even though the ship is a high-speed vessel, it can’t beat a storm and was stranded on a deserted island, where he found an old pirate’s treasure. Pirates, merchants, and even aristocrats become involved in the pirates’ quest for the treasure, and a great commotion ensues.

I don’t know how much of this is true and how much is fiction, but as a child I was excited to read about Captain Sorro’s exciting adventures.

At the time, I had no idea that there were reincarnations of anyone other than myself.

But then I discovered that there was another reincarnation besides me, Massita.

I thought to myself, “If so, there must be other reincarnations,” and when I thought back on the story from that perspective, I realized that this story was exactly what I was looking for.

It is a technology that is commonplace today, but at the time, no one would have thought of applying wind magic to the sails of a sailing ship to gain propulsion.

After Captain Thorlo started using it, it spread explosively and is now common knowledge among sailors.

As a result, the sailing ships of this world are much faster than those of the previous world.

What was noteworthy here was that ‘we started using a technology that no one had thought of before, as a matter of course.

How is it possible to go out to sea and suddenly use something that no one else had done at the time?

Perhaps they had decided to use wind magic in that way before they went out to sea.

And if he was going to use wind magic, he needed a ship that was designed for it.

That is why he built his own ship.

In other words, he “knew it from the beginning.”

And the description in the prologue of his childhood.

‘One day Sorro, a very ordinary boy, accidentally fell off a cliff and nearly died. He was in a coma for days, and everyone was about to give up hope that he would ever wake up, when he miraculously awoke. Suddenly, Sorro became a genius, astonishing the adults around him.’

…This is something that Captain Sorro and I have in common.

When I was a baby, the carriage in which I was traveling with my parents, I think, was attacked by demons.

I was in a state of suspended animation from the impact, and was able to slip through the demon’s eyes.

My grandfather helped me recover from the state of suspended animation and I survived.

It was then that I remembered the memory of my previous life.

Perhaps it was the same for Captain Sorro.

He fell off a cliff and was one step away… from death.

And when he recovered from that state, he probably remembered the memories of his previous life as well.

I thought about this earlier, the similarities between me and Massita.

Captain Sorro and I had that in common.

However, while Captain Sorro’s book contains stories of his childhood, Massita in the story is already an adult from the time of her appearance.

The childhood episodes are not written in the story.

If we knew that, we might be able to find some common ground.

Is there any book that has such episodes in it? ……

Oh, that’s right.

My grandma told me that she used to do a lot of research on Massita.

Maybe she knows or has some information about Massita’s childhood.

I will ask my grandma tomorrow.

Anyway, the main reason why I am convinced that this Captain Sorro is an awakened reincarnated person. It is…

“I wonder if he made it an eagle because… Falcon wouldn’t be good enough.”

And he’s Captain Sorro!

“Is this about Massita’s childhood?”

“Yeah. Grandma researched Massita, right? I was wondering if you knew any stories about him.”

“What’s going on all of a sudden?”

The day after I learned that Massita was a reincarnation, I asked my grandmother if she knew any stories about Massita’s childhood.
