Sure enough, she wondered why I was asking such a question.

“Yesterday, I read Massita’s book for the first time in a long time, and I noticed that Captain Sorro’s book had stories from his childhood, but Massita’s book didn’t.”

“So I was wondering why there weren’t any stories from his childhood?”

“Sorro was said to be a child prodigy. But Massita didn’t do much of anything noteworthy until he came of age and made his first magical artifact.”

…So

“I think Massita probably thought it was a bad idea not to act conspicuously as a child, so he weighed himself down.

But then, I don’t know if there would have been any stories about her childhood…”

“I have Massita’s diary. Is that OK with you?”

“You have that?”

“Oh, Massita didn’t inherit the magic of the grant, but he did leave behind his descendants. His descendants had inherited the diary of their great ancestor from generation to generation. I was asked to keep it for them, to keep it out of the fire of war. Apparently, Massita was a very fastidious person, and his diary has been kept since he was a child.”

“You kept it? So you still have it, don’t you?

“I still have it. I still have it. I just can’t give it back to him anymore.”

“Can’t give it back?”

“The Empire’s invasion.”

“Oh, I see. The country of Massita’s birth has been invaded by the Empire.”

“After that country was invaded by the empire, I went there again when things had calmed down, but unfortunately, Massita’s descendants…”

Grandma shakes her head in disagreement.

“Oh no, they were hunted?”

“Just being descendants of Massita is…”

“Has the empire always been that unreasonable?”

“I heard that they went on a rampage against the imperial army using the magical tools Massita left behind. They suffered considerable casualties, and the empire was furious. But in the end, we were outnumbered. All the magical tools Massita left behind were broken, and they were all killed in the end.”

“Of course they would target us.

Or rather, it was the fault of his descendants that Massita’s magical artifacts had not survived.”

“Now, Massita’s diary. One moment, please.”

Grandma said, and rummaged in her storage room in the other space.

“Oh, there it is. Here it is.”

“Wow! That’s a lot of diaries from when I was a child.”

“It’s a valuable document, you must take good care of it.”

“Yes. Thank you, Grandma.”

Thus, I had acquired Massita’s diary, an extremely valuable and useful document for me.

“Oh, and…”

“What?”

“There’s some writing in there that looks like a code, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to figure it out. I’m afraid I haven’t been able to figure out what it says.”

“Oh, I see. Well, I’ll skip that part.”

“You do that.”

After hearing from Grandma about the contents of the diary, I immediately went to my room to look through Massita’s diary.

The diary from his childhood was rather difficult to read, as I expected from a child’s handwriting.

However, one day the date jumped for a while, and the diary was updated for the first time in a while with the words…

“…is much cleaner.”

It was hard to believe that it was written by a child, the handwriting was so beautiful.

And it describes the reason why the diary was not updated for a while.

It is…

“I don’t remember what happened, but apparently I was run over by a horse-drawn carriage. I hit my head hard and seemed to be on the verge of death. And when I woke up, I was a mixture of the present me and the old me. …I have not been able to accept this fact.”

That’s what it said.

…in Japanese.

I knew it…

Massita had her own experience of returning from the brink of death.

And, as I had suspected from the moment I heard my grandmother’s story, the cryptic letters were also Japanese.

The description of the place where she came back from the brink of death and revived the memory of her previous life was written in Japanese.

The rest of the descriptions were written in the script of this world, but the truths that were so hard to believe were written in characters that people in this world could not read, probably in consideration of what would happen if other people read them.

But now I know the conditions under which the memories of my previous life awakened.

‘Returning from the brink of death in childhood.’

I am sure this is correct.

I think this is correct.

Not everyone awakens.

Well… can’t help you if you know that, and you must never let it be known.

Because if this information is misused, it will be the worst thing that could happen.

If you were thinking of misusing it, you can go to…

Letting a child near death and then recovering in the hopes that memories from another world will come back.

Someone will probably come up with something like that.

It is the devil’s work.

We must never allow such a thing to happen.

This is a truth that must be sealed forever.

I will not tell this secret until I die.

With this in mind, I returned Massita’s diary to my grandmother.

“How was it? Did you find anything interesting in it?”

“No, most of it was in the book, and I couldn’t read some of the words.”

“I see. You know… that cipher looks a lot like the original letters you use in your grants…”

“It’s just your imagination.”

“Are you sure about…”

I’m afraid of the look in grandma’s eyes, but this is a secret that she mustn’t know.

The most important thing to remember is that you can’t just take a look at your own personal information.

But now it’s different.

I now have a reason why she must never know.

I managed to escape Grandma’s disbelieving eyes and returned to my room, and I thought about my current situation in this world.

In the past, there were two people whose memories of another world seemed to have awakened.

No one else seems to have awakened.

Maybe there really were.

There probably won’t be any in this world.

Because…

There’s no one in the world today who is notably active in the world.
