Chapter 148 – Glasses boy somehow manages to get through the night

My regrets were pouring down like a torrential rain.

I felt like holding my head in despair when thinking about the future.

… But let’s leave it at this for now.

If I keep thinking about everything that I revealed, I’ll bury this restaurant in my sighs, so let’s stop here.

I turned around and looked at the people who remained at the restaurant.

Beckenberg, still blinded, seemed to have hid as soon as heard the sounds of battle.

He curled up his round body below a table at a corner of the restaurant.

Well, even while blinded, Beckenberg can still take smart actions.

Even if this makes him look utterly pathetic, this was still the right decision. Otherwise, he could end up getting hurt by a stray attack during the battle.

… But old lady Adyll was different.

She was still calmly sitting at the table. She tilted her glass with ease, seemingly uninterested in the battle that had unfolded in front of her.

To me, this reaction is way more disturbing than being watched with great interest.

“… Who are you?” Lisse asked.

Lisse was easier to understand.

I’m sure she’s curious about it, but more than that, she seems to quite suspicious of me. She had a very troubled look on her face too.

Seems like my true identity hasn’t been revealed though.

But well, she’s probably still thinking that it’s possible that I am Eil.

Because Lisse isn’t stupid.

Or rather, she’s the type of person who make mistakes due to being way too serious and honest about things. It’s a bit unfortunate.

“Manager, let’s go home.” I, of course, ignored Lisse, and called out to old lady Adyll.

As her bodyguard, I have decided that we can no longer stay here.

Besides, she doesn’t seem to have any more plans for today, so we should be able to go home now.

“Sure. If you finish your job, we can go.” Old lady Adyll replied.

Finish my job…?

“That was quite the game! I’m excited!” I heard a voice entering the restaurant.

… Ah, I see.

I won the game, but I didn’t get rid of Zett yet.

******

The rules of the game were that Zett won if he knocked me unconscious, and I won if I kicked him out.

Regardless of who won, once one of those things happened, the game would be over.

… However, when I turned my gaze towards the entrance, I saw Zett majestically walk back inside the restaurant, even though he was just blown outside.

… And he was grinning.

Grinning with a strong madness, that filled his eyes, as he stared directly at me.

“That was fun! I don’t know what happened, but for the first time in a while, I thought I might actually die!” Zett exclaimed.

Oh, really? That was fun?

“You agreed to the conditions, didn’t you? So could you please end things here for the day?” I asked.

“I’m getting an extension! I’ll even pay extra for it!” Zett exclaimed, as if his time with a brothel lady had just run out.

Truly…

Well, I suppose this game gave no benefits to Zett whatsoever.

So, from the start, I did think it was possible that he wouldn’t keep his end of the deal.

But I really did wish that he would stay true to his word and go home.

“Let’s keep going! Until one of us can no longer move! Let’s go, let’s go!” Zett exclaimed.

“… Can’t you please go back home?” I asked.

“Hah!? You can’t say that after making me feel like that! Let’s keep going!” Zett said next.

I just won a game. I don’t remember making you feel anything in particular.

“You see, I just cannot do my best in this situation. There is just no way I can fight you while protecting lady Adyll. I’ll surely lose like this.” I told him in the meekest girlish tone I could muster.

“Then the old hag can go home! We can keep on playing until one of us dies!” Zett replied.

Yeah… I absolutely hate this situation.

Zett was leaking out an immense amount of bloodlust. He seemed to be ready to attack at any moment.

It felt like he was about to explode.

The feeling was similar to that time when he was holding Beckenberg by the collar.

******

This is a pretty bad situation.

Will me and Lisse be able to stop him if he gets serious?

Our winning odds are fairly low.

… But I also can’t afford not doing anything.

Though when I tried a surprise attack against him to see if there was a victory chance without using my Glasses, I was utterly defeated…

But suddenly, a girl bursted into the restaurant, “Zett! For how long have you been playing!?”

She was dressed lightly and was wearing a hat. She seemed to be a year or two younger than me.

She came out of nowhere, entered the restaurant and went straight to Zett, ignoring all the bloodlust that he was leaking.

“… Hah!? What are you talking about!?” Zett exclaimed.

The girl then whispered something into his ear, and suddenly, Zett’s bloodlust was gone.

“Come! Quickly!” The girl held Zett’s hand and started dragging him away.

“Hey, wait…!

“Damn it! Hey, maid! I’ll definitely play with you!” Zett exclaimed as he left the restaurant.

Ah, really…? I truly hate this kind of promise, you know?

But well, he was gone now.

It was quite sudden, but… Honestly? I’m glad she came. She helped a lot.

I mean, I did manage to get the upper hand against Zett for one instant, but…

I was putting my all into that, while Zett was holding back and had his guard down.

If Zett went all out, then I would have no chance of winning.

Or rather, I wouldn’t even be able to put up a fight against him.

The only thing I’d be able to do, would be running.

Though well, if I was alone, I would never try interacting with him in the first place. I would much rather flee than deal with this kind of dangerous person.

That said… I wonder why Zett retreated.

Just what did that girl tell him?

Zett seemed to be troubled after what he heard, but-

Huh?

“Lord Beckenberg!” A man came inside the restaurant while shouting that.

Almost as if he came to replace Zett, this man came inside just as Zett left.

He was wearing a metal armor, so he gave off the feeling of a soldier.

I pointed my hand towards the table that Beckenberg was hiding below, as the man was looking left and right in search of Beckenberg.

“Lord Beckenberg! Please return to the mansion immediately!” The soldier shouted as he ran towards Beckenberg.

“Who are you to talk to me like this, bastard!?” Beckenberg exclaimed, then groaned in pain, “I can’t open my eyes!”

Sorry about that, but you were looking at Lisse with a really troublesome glare.

… Well, that, and I didn’t want you to see me fighting. That was actually 90% of the reason why I blinded you.

“Ze-Zett’s comrades are attacking the mansion! They’re plundering all of the valuables!” The soldier replied.

… Oh, I see. Ain’t this quite the turn of events?

“W-what the!?” Beckenberg vigorously stood up as he shouted that, lifting the table away from him.

Beckenberg lured Zett here to kill him.

Or more precisely, he did that by leaking his meeting with old lady Adyll to Zett. He used her as a bait.

But since Zett understood that this was a trap, he decided to retaliate by raiding Beckenberg’s mansion.

Zett made use of the time Beckenberg was away to steal all his fortune.

“Hurry up! Lead me there!” Beckenberg held the soldier’s arm.

“Y-yes milord!” The soldier replied and started moving.

And so, like an old gramps who couldn’t walk on his own, Beckenberg left the restaurant while tightly holding the soldier’s arm.

“Damn it! If the Gift Seal hadn’t been stolen, I could have crushed that fly here!” Beckenberg grumbled as he left.

Those were some… Extremely worrisome parting words.

And now, in the quiet restaurant that had even less people than before, only the sound of my sigh could be heard.

Somehow… I guess I was a saved.

… Good grief.
