Chapter 154 – Glasses boy goes to the craftsmen’s district

It was only when morning came that I realized it.

Old lady Adyll and Beckenberg’s dinner, as well as Zett’s attack… Those events left me both physically and mentally exhausted.

Not to mention the unexpected reunion with Lisse…

Due to those things, I ended up falling asleep as soon as I returned to the mansion in the brothel district.

And it was only after I woke up that I realized it… That I forgot the knife that I threw at Zett within the restaurant.

I threw the knife near the start of the fight.

I thought it was going to be a good surprise attack, but Zett handled it with ease. He even caught the knife and threw it back at me.

I was able to parry the knife with my glasses, but the knife has been missing since then.

It was probably still there in that restaurant.

Was yesterday’s mess cleaned up already?

I brought that knife with me because I felt like I needed to have a weapon with me when acting as an escort.

But other than my bow, which is the weapon I’m most familiar with, and that is being held by Sorichika, my only other weapon was the dismantling knife.

I was keeping it hidden, but I’ve now lost it.

And that was my own knife… The dismantling knife that the bald blacksmith of the assassin’s village gave me.

It was a pretty ordinary knife. It wasn’t particularly good or elaborate in any way.

… But it was the only weapon I had. I’m now truly unarmed.

This situation is troublesome…

While I don’t mind losing an unremarkable knife much, it’s still dangerous to be unarmed, as I’m not that good at hand-to-hand combat.

This also gets in the way of my job as old lady Adyll’s escort.

It’s really bad to not have even a knife.

However, it’s too late to go back to the restaurant to fetch it.

In the first place, I don’t think it’s a good idea to return to the scene of yesterday’s incident.

But also, I don’t think they would return the knife to me even if I went there.

Most likely, I’d just get involved in some trouble instead, since Beckenberg surely has a poor impression of me after I threw salt on his eyes… And well, that restaurant is probably under his control.

So, I should probably give up on that knife.

Even if I tried tracking where they took the knife, I would most likely be unable to do it, because the knife is just too unremarkable.

If it was a good weapon or something that looked like trash, I could probably pick up information on its whereabouts, but I doubt I’d be able to track an absolutely normal weapon in this city.

Therefore…

I started looking at the luggage I kept besides my bed, and I picked up the thing stored deep inside it, while trying to avoid touching the new evil god statue that Florentine gave me.

And here it is… The fang of the Obsidian Wolf.

The blacksmith of the assassin’s village refused to process it, and it was too much of a valuable item to be sold, so I ended up taking it with me.

And on this city, there is a splendid craftsmen’s district.

As long as I can pay for it, they’ll probably process this into a knife.

After all, they have some truly magnificent facilities here.

I don’t know much about the people who live in that region, but I’m sure they take their jobs seriously.

Because the tools and facilities are a direct mirror of a craftsman.

I can tell that they’re serious about their job just by looking at their facilities.

… Or well, at least that’s how I’d normally judge those things in a normal city.

But in the lawless country, Krozheit, I cannot say this with absolute certainty.

******

“Mmm? You want to get a knife made?” Old lady Adyll asked me.

I talked to her about it while we ate breakfast.

“I lost my knife, so I want a new one.

“I already have the materials for it, so I’m thinking of commissioning one.” I explained.

If old lady Adyll doesn’t go out, I basically don’t have anything to do as an escort.

I usually accompanied Seviarow on her rounds in these days, but since I have something else I want to do, I won’t accompany her today.

So, after confirming today’s schedule with old lady Adyll, I brought up the matter of the knife.

“I’ll get you a knife done then. The best of the best.” Old lady Adyll grinned.

I immediately shook my head, “I don’t want to owe you anything, so I will refrain.”

If I owe her too much, I’ll end up being tied down to this mansion… Or rather, I’ll be indebted to old lady Adyll.

If that happens, it will certainly become hard for me to move.

Of course, old lady Adyll surely thought of that when making her proposal. This woman doesn’t make acts of good will without carefully calculating the merits associated with them.

That makes her easy to understand though.

“Do whatever you want then.

“Oh, Sevi. Tell Elle about that.” Old lady Adyll said.

It seemed like a pretty random timing to bring up a new subject, but miss Seviarow, who had been quietly eating her meal, stopped her spoon midway and spoke, “Last night, it seems like Zett was beaten up harshly, to the point he had to run away from the city.”

… Hah!? That Zett!?

“… My my. You didn’t even tremble when hearing those news? You’re quite brave.” Miss Seviarow commented.

No, no, not at all. I’m really surprised to hear about this, I just didn’t show it on my face.

“How did that happen?” I asked.

The Zett that I faced yesterday was so strong that he almost gave me nightmares.

The whole ordeal was catastrophic, and I had to use my Glasses to the fullest to surpass him for just a moment.

But if he got serious, I wouldn’t stand a chance.

I honestly don’t want to see him ever again.

And yet… That Zett was somehow forced to flee the city after being beaten up?

It’s kinda hard to believe it…

“Apparently, he was brutally beaten up by a newcomer taboo child.” Miss Seviarow explained.

A newcomer taboo child…?

Well… That’s definitely Florentine.

I see… It’s certainly possible if it’s Florentine that we’re talking about.

If she grabs you, she can crush you. The fight is essentially over once that happens.

For someone like Zett, who fights with his bare hands, Florentine can actually be quite dangerous.

Or rather, I honestly don’t think anybody can beat her with their bare hands if they don’t have any prior knowledge about her capabilities.

“Do you two know each other perchance? Is the taboo child a guest of the Tower of Bryne too?” Miss Seviarow asked me.

“I don’t really know her.” I replied.

It would be troublesome if people knew that we were acquaintances, so I tried to deceive them.

“Got it, got it.

“Anyways, some people will get rowdier without Zett’s presence in the city, so things will be more troublesome than normal.

“Be careful if you leave the brothel district.” Miss Seviarow told me.

The city will be rowdier, huh?

I don’t know what exactly will happen, but I guess I’ll be more cautious than usual… Although this city naturally requires caution when moving around.

“If you want to, I can accompany you to the craftsmen’s district.” Miss Seviarow suggested.

“Truly?” I asked.

It’s easy to find people who try extorting me if I go out alone, so it would be great to have somebody accompanying me, if possible.

“But when a man and a woman go out alone… It’s totally a date that they both consented to, isn’t it?” Miss Seviarow commented.

“Ah, there is no need for your help. I can go alone, thank you.” I replied.

******

After breakfast, I went back to my room and changed my clothes.

I decided to go to the craftsmen’s district while dressed as a woman, as it’s easier to move around when people look at me as a maid of old lady Adyll’s mansion.

I’ve learned how to put make-up on my own by now, and I’ve become somewhat well-known due to going on rounds with miss Seviarow, so I should be fine like this.

Besides, it’s possible that I might meet an acquaintance again, like how I met Lisse yesterday.

I would have no way of deceiving them if I was dressed normally, so going out in women’s clothes is safer.

Also… Florentine seems to be living in the slums, which is the region where Zett was beaten up.

I don’t have any plans to go there, and I should probably just avoid the place entirely to not meet up with any acquaintances, but…

I want to find out how she is doing.

I’m not worried about Lisse, Cherry or Chace, but I’m a bit worried about Florentine.

… Well, I shouldn’t need to worry about her, since she has apparently beaten Zett up.

“It suits you quite well.” Asch told me.

“I’m not that happy to hear it, but thank you.” I replied.

I borrowed casual women’s clothes from Asch, my exclusive maid.

I can’t really wear that jet black dress during the day, after all… Or rather, I don’t want to wear it that much even at night.

So, I was lent an unremarkable dress and put it on.

I’m not particular about women’s clothes, so I’m fine with this one.

Once I finished my preparations and went to the mansion’s entrance, I found Dynawood, who was apparently waiting for me.

“It’s from the manager. Give this letter to Tatsunami, a blacksmith.” Dynawood immediately handed me this letter as soon as he saw me.

Oh? There is a wax seal with old lady Adyll’s stamp on it? That’s the first time I’ve seen one of those.

“This seems to be your introduction letter. If you show this to a blacksmith, they’ll surely bring you to Tatsunami, so make sure to deliver it.” Dynawood told me.

Oh? An introduction letter?

“Alright. I’ll deliver it.” I replied.

After receiving the letter, I started moving towards the craftsmen’s district.
