Chapter 168 – Glasses boy goes out at the day of the hunting festival

This was a really strange Gift.

Though part of its strangeness came from the mysteries of the human body.

I grasped a stone that was about the same size as a fist.

Iron was exposed on the surface of this stone, and it made the stone look particularly rough.

Then, I activated the Iron Eater gift.

Something that felt like small grains gradually eroded into my hand as I held the rough stone.

I couldn’t see it happening as this was occurring between the stone and the palm of my hand, but I could definitely feel it.

This is really… Strange.

When I put down the rough stone that I was holding and looked at the palm of my hand, I could see that the iron portion of the rough stone had completely entered my hand.

Specifically, it had blended in with my skin while retaining its properties as iron.

To me, it just looked like the palm of my hand was blackened to some extent, but if someone tried touching it, they’d feel that my skin was as hard as iron.

But to me, the sensation of touching things was still the same as what it usually was like, even if I can probably hit the blackened part with a nail without being hurt at all.

This Gift probably falls under a similar category as Sand Walk. The kind of Gift that cannot be explained by theory, similarly to how gravity works.

In any case, when I let go of the iron in my hand, it became some sort of iron dust and smoothly left me.

Then, I tried moving the metal inside me.

It was something that I didn’t fully understand, as I’m sure I never ate metal.

However, it felt like there was some amount of metal in my body… Or rather, in the human body.

That was the strangest thing that I noticed while I tried Iron Eater out.

This Gift let me feel not only the metal outside of my body, but I was also able to feel a small amount of metal flowing inside me too.

And by collecting the metal inside of me, I could make a small knife.

I couldn’t bring out too much of it though, or I would start feeling ill. A small knife was my limit with this.

It seemed like this metal inside me was some sort of necessary component to make the human body work.

In any case, as I tested out the abilities of Iron Eater, I started remembering my fight with Zett.

First, his tattoos… Those were probably all made of metal. That was probably why he was shirtless in the first place.

Basically, if he had metal tattoos on him, he would be able to easily create all sorts of simple blades in an instant, like swords and spears.

He should probably be able to make the tip of a sword suddenly pop out of his belly too… Or rather, that’s extremely likely. That’s probably why he stays half-naked in the first place.

Otherwise, he’d get his clothes torn whenever he tried creating blades out of his tattoos… Or maybe it’s simply easier to manipulate the metal without the clothes in the way.

Well, point being, the clothes are a hindrance to this Gift, so that’s probably why he fights while half-naked.

But more importantly than that, I also noticed something about the metal that flows inside people’s bodies.

After some experimenting and figuring out how exactly I could manipulate it, I was able to fully understand how threatening Zett really is.

This was probably the secret behind the power of the hero who had this Gift and became the king of a country.

… It’s possible to manipulate the metal that flows inside the bodies of other people.

As in, Zett can attack his opponents by using the metal inside them.

And of course, he should be able to aim for a fatal injury with this, like if he created a needle that was stabbing his opponent’s heart.

This is most likely possible… For I have experienced a glimpse of the true power of this Gift.

When I attacked Zett that night, some metal was turned into needles and was stuck into my arm… Or rather, it was probably the metal inside my own body that was used for that.

It was a very strange sensation… Zett had not stabbed me, and I didn’t feel like he had done anything strange to me either.

This ability was probably what created those needles.

… I sighed.

The more I learn about this Gift, the more I realize that I don’t want to ever meet Zett again… His Gift is just way too ridiculous.

******

“Lord Elle, it’s time for breakfast.” I heard my personal maid, Asch, call out to me from outside my room.

Seems like my free time is over.

I cleaned up the rough stones and the iron sand that I had spread out, returned the metal knife back to my body, then picked my luggage bag and put it on my back.

Alright… I guess this is it.

I looked around the room one last time to make sure I didn’t forget anything, then opened the door.

“Good morning, Lord Elle… Huh?” Asch tilted his head.

Well, I was still wearing a maid outfit like usual, and my make-up was on point.

The only thing that was different from usual was that I was carrying my luggage bag on my back.

“We haven’t been together for long, but thank you for taking care of me thus far. I’ll be leaving now.” I told him.

“Eh!?” He exclaimed.

Eh? What’s up with all that surprise? Isn’t this a bit too much of an exaggerated reaction?

Today is just the last day that I’ll be staying in this mansion. After the hunting festival ends, I plan on moving to a different base and not return here.

This also serves as a way to let ‘Elle’ smoothly disappear.

“Won’t you be here for a while longer?” Asch asked me.

“I won’t.” I replied.

“Isn’t this way too sudden!?” He asked next.

“Ah, sorry, I guess I didn’t tell you about it.” I said.

Dynawood was informed in advance though.

I told him about it when I asked him for a maid uniform that was just like his.

But it seems like he didn’t inform Asch…

“Well, it’s fine, isn’t it? You took care of me until yesterday, but now I’m leaving.” I told him.

“It’s way too late to say this kind of thing!” Asch exclaimed.

Really…? I mean, I don’t think we’re particularly close or anything. We don’t have a close enough relationship to make one of us feel bad about parting.

“Are you really leaving…? I’m going to miss you…” Asch commented.

… He really felt this close to me?

“… I guess I do feel a bit lonely when thinking about the parting too.” I commented.

I mean, Asch did teach me how to properly dress like a woman and how to apply make-up.

He also showed me that underwear that didn’t really look like underwear…

Our relationship may have been short, but I guess we didn’t spend quite a bit of time together, so… Well, I guess I do have some feelings towards him at least. We’re not just strangers that just passed by each other on the street.

“Uhn… Will we meet again?” Asch asked me.

Mmm… “I don’t know.” I answered honestly.

I have no intention of coming back here, but if there’s a reason for it, I may come again.

Mmmm… Perhaps… “Is there something you wish to tell me?” I decided to ask him.

While we may have had a relationship where we went through certain experiences together, it was still a fairly shallow relationship, so I just have to wonder if there is something else that might be creating this attachment of his towards me.

“… I was just wondering if lord Elle could marry lady Sevi and then stay here forever…” Asch replied.

… So that’s what he was thinking?

Alright… Let’s not ever come back here unless it’s strictly necessary!
