Chapter 17

The yard was small, with a fire pit, a few chairs, a single tree and a bunch of scrap metal; it looked more like a homeless hideout than a prestigious Familias backyard.

Only Tsubaki and I were in it, the other smiths no doubt still at their forges.

I couldn’t stop smiling, because, well, magic.

What kid didn’t have daydreams of throwing fireballs or flying through the sky. I was ninety-nine percent sure most people have tried learning a card trick at least once.

“Let's do this.”
Tsubaki nodded, ready to step in should anything terrible happen. I took a deep breath and focused on my magic power.

“Brightest Night.”

My magic churned inside me and began to flow through my body.

“Stellar Sheen.”

Immediately a shining white light came from below. Looking down I saw my arms were covered in white light halfway up my forearms, as though I was wearing glowing gloves. The veins of my arms were also glowing, but it instead traveled all the way up to my shoulders where it finally faded.

“...”

“...”

“Wow… how… pretty?” Tsubaki said.

I said nothing and instead waved my arms around, maybe it needed motion?

“Try pushing more of your Mind into it,” Tsubaki suggested.

I did so and the glove part of the Enchantment grew a few inches, now it was like I was wearing those old hulk gloves. I could also feel my Mind draining quicker. Using one to touch the other I could feel their tangibility.

“I-I guess that's cool,” I said with a bit of disappointment.

Sure I had super fistacuffs, but fighting monsters with my bare hands sounded idiotic.

I bent down, picking up a piece of scrap metal with my right super hand. When I did so my arm went back to its normal size and the extra light flowed into the scrap of metal, then the light enveloping the metal grew like it did with my arm.

“Oh I’m an idiot.”

I had been overthinking it.

I stopped using extra power and the light shrunk back to the normal size of the metal scrap. I dropped the piece of metal, expecting the light to instantly fade, but it took several moments for it to go back to normal.

“Ok never mind that’s sick.”

I pulled out the stiletto knife I had made a few days earlier, keeping the Enchantment over it at normal size. Walking to the lone tree I stabbed into it with the knife. Like a stick through mud my blade sunk down to the hilt into the wood. I wiggled the blade free and looked at it.

It was fine…

I stabbed the tree again, and again.

“Hehehe Magic.”

“Ok ok stop, you’re giving off psycho vibes right now and I don’t want you to kill John’s cat.”

“John has a cat?” I only called John other names to his face.

“Kova, you’re not going to kill John cat,” she said to me like someone would tell their kid not to eat candy before dinner.

“I didn’t say I was?” Was that normal here or something? I was just surprised that background character 1 was able to have a pet.

I supersized my knife and once again stabbed the tree. It sank in easily again, but when I pulled it out I saw that there were a few motes of light falling off the blade, meaning the extra size was less durable, which made sense.

Walking a few paces away I put away my stiletto and pulled out a teardrop throwing knife like the ones I had back in Altena that I had made in my spare time. It took on the glow of the Stellar Sheen Enchantment and I threw it at the tree.

I went almost all the way in, the only thing visible a white light slowly dimming.

“Oh thank the Gods this is so cool,” I said.

“Damn nice Enchantment, better than the usual fire Enchantment I’d say, even if it doesn’t cover yer legs,” Tsubaki said nodding.

Maybe I could move it to my legs? WAIT- MAYBE I COULD MOVE IT TO MY DICK.

Focusing my Mind I tried to move the Enchantment, or activate it in other parts of my body, but nothing happened.

“Damn,” it would have been so funny.

She smiled and moved closer, “It’s alright there are a bunch of uses for your Enchantment still-”

We both froze at the same moment, our thoughts in line with one another.

““Smithing-Forge-Hammer, Now!”” we said together. We both began to move to the gate, but I remembered that I still had another Enchantment to test.

“Wait! Let me test the other one.”

Tsubaki reluctantly agreed, now pacing around wanting to get moving. I let the Enchantment fade, I still had quite a bit of Mind left.

“Never Broken.”

“Golems Body.”

Once again I felt my magic flow and my Mind begin to drain, but this time there was no light. Instead I sunk into the ground slightly. Looking down I saw that all my exposed skin was now a dull gray with a slight shine from the light outside.

Tsubaki moved in close and peered at me, humming to herself. She tapped my shoulder with her knuckle, a small ring echoing out.

“Pewter?” she said.

Pewter was a softer metal, though obviously more durable than normal flesh. I was able to move my body without difficulty, and I grabbed my bicep with my other hand squeezing slightly. I felt more power in my hand, but also more resistance to my grasp. I looked under my shirt and at my legs, even inside my pants, which made Tsubaki laugh.

Every inch of my body was covered in the Enchantment. Another thing I noticed was that it was draining my Mind more than Stellar Sheen.

“Okay okay, this is pretty nice.”
Like with the last Enchantment I began to experiment. The first thing I did was a set of stretches, seeing how much it affected my mobility. I could only feel a slight resistance, noticeable, but not something I would call an impairment. Next I tried removing the Enchantment around my left arm, and within two seconds it was normal skin again. I removed it in half of my body next, and I felt the amount of Mind being used up was now cut in half.

Then I tried to pour more Mind into the remaining part. Nothing happened, I felt as though I was missing something. Well my Golems Body seemed to imitate metal, so what about iron? With that thought my skin turned darker and the amount of Mind being drained increased by a good amount.

I moved to the tree, letting it go back to pewter. I punched it, and despite my small body, I was still a half-dwarf. That combined with the power from the Enchantment the tree shook violently. Turning my Golems Body to iron I once again punched the tree. The numerous stabs, particularly the one from the supersized knife, made a line across the tree as it cracked in half and fell into the yard.

Tsubaki clapped enthusiastically, laughing with glee at my power. I still had maybe a fifth of my magic. How far could I go with this? Steel? Titanium? Adamantite? I tried stainless steel, and immediately collapsed to my knees from the lack of magic. I let go of the Enchantment and gasped.

“Too much, too much.”

Tsubaki was already kneeling next to me, I hadn’t even noticed her move. A headache began to form.

“I think I need to lay down…” I said hazily.

“Nonononono we need to get you to the Forge!” Tsubaki said after seeing it was just a case of low Mind.

“I ca-”

She pulled a magic potion from between her breasts. What the hell? What if the glass broke?

Uncorking it she pried open my mouth and poured the contents in.

“Ugblaahshepuh,” I said eloquently.
