Chapter 29

A few days had passed since Rose had kicked me out from the Guild. I was nearly back to peak condition. It would have taken me months to fully recover back on Earth, but with potions and magic, not to mention my enhanced physique I could recover in a week.

I stood over a large bowl of boiling orange tinted liquid. I added three more pinches of green powder turning the previously off white concoction a deep orange. I had done so because, well, it looked like jizz before.

I turned off the burner and went back to my forge while I waited for the liquid to go back to room temperature.

Pulling my new chestplate out I began beating the red hot metal into its final shape. I only needed a few adjustments until I could start bolting the straps in. Once I had finished I put it back in the forge to begin tempering and moved back to the bowl of liquid.

It had cooled enough and I began scooping the final ingredient into the bowl. It came from a plant that looked very similar to aloe vera but with a teal and pink hue instead. Called a Reshi Flower it comes from the Amazon Island of Telskyura and its inside is basically pure sticky resin.

From a spout at the bottom I let the liquid flow into ten different round flasks made of clay.

Then I put the custom made stoppers that were vials in their own right on top, sealing the liquid.

I had gotten the idea after hearing about the mucus on the Dungeon Lizards sucker disks, but the whole Ganesha incident had made me unable to extract some.

Luckily after John had made fun of me right after Rose had told me off I had barred him from any purchase of Ascent Paradise. It had caused him to get on his knees and apologize to me, so I made him my lackey for a few days.

Mixing the Frog Shooter saliva, the mucus from the Dungeon Lizard, the Reshi Flower resin and the final chemical mixture in the stopper of the flask would cause an explosive sticky bomb almost like Spiderman.

Which is why I added orange dye to it, because I knew that someone would make a semen joke down the line.

With my flasks finished I had time until Ardi was going to come over, so I read a book on hieroglyphics that I bought from the Educational district.

About an hour later she knocked on my smithys door. I made sure to put on my shirt first, not wanting to be too weird.

“Hello Ardi, come on in.”

“Hi Kova! I can call you that right?”
“I don’t really have anything else that you could call me.”
“Oh, okay, some elves prefer it when non elves call them by their last names is all.”
I had forgotten about that.

“That’s mainly elves that grew up in one of the forests, I didn’t. Kova is fine.”

Walking into the smithy she looked around curiously.

“I saw the garden out front, so you really do potion making too, doesn’t that take a while?”
I shrugged. “Sure, but I enjoy it. Most of my day is spent forging, potion making or Dungeon diving.”

“Don’t you want to go out with your friends?”

I froze, there was no way I was going to admit that other than John, ew, I didn’t really have any friends.

“Uh, well you know, taxes.”

“Really? I’ve never had to do taxes before…”

Damn, I forgot she was a genuine person, now I feel bad.

“Sorry, no, it's just that I don’t really have friends yet, I just moved to Orario.”

“Oh! Well I don’t mind being your friend!” She said happily.

I had seen it coming, she seemed like the person to say something like that, but still a tear nearly escaped my eyes. Finally, a friend around my own age.

I coughed, “Well let's see what kind of gear you prefer.”

I had several weapons that I had made for testing purposes, a lot being more suited for smaller frames like prums or younger people because right now with my age that was my target customer.

She said she preferred the typical longsword, with a hand and a half grip, so I pulled out a few, also let her try other weapon types just in case she had a knack for those instead. I’d of course let her make the final decision on the type of weapon though.

Like most other adventures she didn't like to use shields, and she preferred leather armor over anything metal.

Eventually I finished examining her and began taking her measurements, where I found out she was ticklish, and started drawing up a set of gear.

“I was told to tell you this, but the Ganesha Familia is sort of like the peacekeepers of the city, so we won’t always be available to go into the Dungeon together,” Ardi said.

“That’s fine, I’m sure that there will be times when I’m busy as well, or maybe would prefer to go solo,” I said.

I just needed help getting to lower levels every once in a while and understanding group work.

Once I finished sketching I showed it to her.

“Ooh I like it! You made it so pretty. Wait, will that be expensive?”

“Well, if you don’t want the extra stuff I can take it off. Probably better to make it flat gray too, no need to put dye in if it costs money…”

“No no, its fine.”

“I had done some research on Ganesha and stuff so I put some cultural accents on the gear. A few metal pieces of jewelry that won't weigh you down.”

I had taken Hephaestus’ words to heart and not made anything too ridiculously expensive, I actually liked the small token accents and patterns I drew.

We agreed to meet up in four days for our first party experience, by then the gear would be done.

I sat in front of Rose in my new gear. I had made a new set of swords and armor for myself, but kept the first set as a memento of where I had started from. My potions and Sticky Bombs were strapped in place around my body, but this time I had no supporters bag as the Ganesha Familia would have their own.

“So, we were planning on going down to the Ninth Floor today…” I said awkwardly.

In front of her were potato puffs, but she had yet to touch or even look at them. She was acting even colder than when I first met her, then it had been sleepy disinterest, now it was like she was a robot.

“Ok I will go over the typical patterns of the Killer Ant, as well as a few tips for Needle Rabbits.”

As she began her overview I decided to grab one of the potato puffs on the table. She froze briefly, but continued, this time watching the food in my hand instead of me. I acted like I didn’t notice, and slowly took a bite of the food.

A slight steam wafted out and I made sure to point the snack in Rose’s direction letting her acute senses smell the food. She swallowed a hungry gleam in her eye, she had started repeating the same sentence as her attention was pulled away.

“They will often hide behind rocks… They will often hide behind…”

She got control of herself and shot me a glare.

“As I was saying they will often hide behind rocks or other land formations and wait until they have passed to jump out at you, and despite their smaller bodies the Needle Rabbits have a tendency to go for the chest and head.”

“Mhm,” I said, taking another bite.

Her eye twitched.

I made sure to not do anything too annoying, I still liked her after all and wanted to mend our relationship, but wasn’t sure how. I wasn’t going to stop going into the Dungeon and risking my life, and based on what her expression had told me I thought that other adventurers under her had promised to come back but never did, so me saying that wouldn’t go well.

For now I would work on giving her snacks and not getting super injured again.
