"When will he wake up?" Sophia asked in a desperate tone.

Grugda, who was sitting by Kace's bedside, continued to ignore her. He had grown tired of hearing this question repeatedly for the past week. Instead, he continued to apply the salve that he himself had made to Kace's torso.

"Say something!" Sophia screamed furiously. Unable to bear the silence anymore.

"Calm yourself." Celia's voice entered the room as the heavy door creaked open. "Your screaming won't help him to recover any faster dear. Besides, you're expected in the training hall."

Sophia threw her a dark look as she stormed off. She would have preferred to wait for Kace to wake up so that she could be there. Instead, she felt as though she were being treated as a nuisance.

'It's not fair!' She sulked as she strode through the hallways. Successfully startling a couple of gargoyles that we're in the middle of cleaning the drapes over the windows. 'I just don't want him to think that I'm ungrateful. It's only right that I should be there to thank him as soon as he wakes up!'

Once she was out of earshot, Celia cast a casual glance over Kace's unconscious body. After Sonja had knocked him out, although she had been a little too forceful about it, he should not have ended up like this.

When Sonja had seen the backlash from Half-Life effects running out she had called for the best physicians within the city. For a while, his life had hung by a thread. 'What a stupid man to push himself that far.' Celia thought as she shook her head.

"Any progress?" She asked the Eljein carefully. Remembering all to well the sudden outburst that he had displayed as he thought that Kace had been killed.

"None. For the moment. He is. Getting stronger, though." Grugda stared at her with all three of his eyes, making her feel extremely uncomfortable.

Feeling that she was unwelcome in here and having confirmed Kace's current status, she gracefully took her leave. 'Her Majesty will not be happy. She was hoping to start his training soon to dispose of her nerves. Who would've thought that she would spare that man.' She sighed heavily in her mind. The entire city was talking about the event that would happen soon.

If an official announcement had not been made, then most of the population would have laughed it off as an elaborate hoax. Instead, they were facing the genuine reality of receiving a king after all of this time. Usually, this would be a cause for celebration. However, this was not the case. Unknown to Kace's group, the city was in actual fact already fractured before they had arrived. At this moment in time, specific forces were beginning to make their moves.

In a noble manner in the innermost circle of the city...

"This is outrageous! How dare she place a filthy half breed above us! I refuse to accept him as my King!" An elderly vampire yelled out to the rest of the group sat at the table in the darkness.

"Now, now. It's useless to shout. Instead, we should be working together to put an end to this before the ceremony." A female noble replied. Keeping her voice low for fear of anyone passing by outside overhearing their traitorous conversation.

"Hmph! She should just accept one of us as her King! The peasants are getting harder to control. They're feeling more entitled now that one of a lowly station is marrying into the royal family. We have to nip this in the bud!"

"No matter what we do, we will need HIS help." The female stressed the word his causing a few complaints from the others that were gathered. "Since nobody denies this fact then I shall go and ask Marquis Carlos Perez to join us immediately."

Meanwhile, in an ordinary house situated in the outermost circle...

"This is our chance! Despite our constant clashes with the nobles over the centuries, we have gained very little ground. I know you may be feeling uneasy as many of us died in the battle outside the city last month. However, we must press the advantage we have been given by the Queen who has relented to marry a half breed." A bald and well-toned vampire explained enthusiastically to the group before him.

"How do you suggest we do that Dao?" A slender male with sharp features and waist-length black hair asked as he leaned against the wall.

"Hmm, in my opinion, it would be best if we could somehow make contact with the rumoured Chimera. Perhaps he could help us." Dao replied while rubbing his chin.

"That's a tall order. Commoners like us were not even allowed to watch him fight in the arena. So we have no idea what he looks like."

"What of our operatives in the castle? Have they discovered where he is being kept?" Dao asked another in the crowd who was in charge of intel gathering.

"So far, there are no leads on him. All that's known is that a whole wing of the castle has been allocated to him and his companions. None of the royal servants except the gargoyles are allowed in the area. So it is proving to be impossible to get in touch with him." The young-looking vampire replied dejectedly.

"Hmm, then a few of us will have to sneak in and search it personally. We will do it in three days time. Who's willing to volunteer to come with me?" Dao asked expectantly, he was optimistic that this was their best option. For the freedom of all who were kept beneath the heels of nobility.

Meanwhile, in the darkest cave situated close by to the vampire city...

A loud cacophony joyous laughter and celebrations could be heard echoing throughout the caverns. 'I must inform Master Shadow at once!' one of the many creatures thought ecstatically. As he barged into a crude throne room where a terrifying existence sat upon a crude throne.

"Master Shadow! Big news! One of our people returned from the city not long ago. You'll never believe it! A group of outsiders appeared!" The creature fought to catch his breath from speaking so quickly before he continued. "Amongst the group! It was confirmed, a new Lord has appeared!"

The mass of shadows that had been spread across the throne suddenly formed into a solid figure with a sharp toothy grin. 'Finally! A new Lord for us to serve!' The one who was known as Shadow thought with excitement. 'It has been far too long since we left here.'
