"Stop being such a baby about it! Didn't you promise me that we'll always be together?" Sonja had a displeased look on her face as she glared at Captain Raven.

"That was before I knew how you used me!" Raven bellowed in retaliation.

Right now he wanted nothing more than to break anything he could get his hands on. Sure, he still loved her. Those were feelings that he had carried for centuries as he searched for her. But how could he accept being sent on wild goose chase while she had been safe and sound all along?

He was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that this woman was pushing the agenda of them getting married. Although he had agreed to under the threat of being beat to death, he was not going to accept it quietly. He never wanted to be a king, and if had known that she was actually the queen, he would have avoided her at all costs all those years ago.

Sonja looked at him with a helpless expression. Sure, she had used him. But should he not feel happy that she needed him for this task? That there was nobody else that she trusted enough to complete it? Or to have the patience to see it through? 'He'll get over it eventually. I hope.' She thought as she tried to reassure herself about her decision.

If she had not been confident in this man succeeding, she would not have waited this long for him to find his way back to her. Her mind always became turbulent with emotions when she looked at Raven. This man, when he was still human, treated her as someone precious that had to be protected at all costs. Something that nobody else had ever done.

He never treated her as a tool for personal gain. Nor did he only desire her body. He actually took the time to get to know her. She thought back to those days where she would sneak off and pretend to be a simple fisherman's daughter in a small port town. How she would look out to sea and await his return.

At that time, she had not known that he was also keeping a secret from her. She had thought that he was a simple naval merchant. So that fateful day when his crew carried him off the ship on his death bed had come as a nasty shock. She could not understand how a merchant had gotten into that state.

Needless to say, she was furious when the crew told her the truth. That they were a bunch of ruthless pirates with a large bounty on their heads. Although she had been angry, she could not sit back and watch him die. He was in no fit state to make a proper decision about turning into a full-fledged vampire, so to save his life, she merely turned him into a half breed.

Even now, she had not told him that he could still become a true vampire. Which would mean that without an unfortunate accident involving a sharp instrument and their head on the floor, they could be together for eternity. She could not bring herself to think about what would happen if he rejected this, which was the likely outcome with how he was now.

"And what of my men? They're only humans! How are we meant to send them back?" Raven was furious by this point. His crew had been like his family in her absence. The only thing that had kept him sane for all of those years. I had always been hard to say goodbye to them when they died or retired due to old age.

The number of friends he had sacrificed to that accursed island in his search for her was vivid in his mind. They had willingly gone along with it, not just for the promised treasure but because they actually cared about him. When they had served a certain term under his command, he had always filled them in on his unique nature.

Despite what he was not a single one had rejected him for it. Their reasoning? Because society hated them for being what they were, so why would they treat someone else the same way? They were all in the same boat at the end of the day. Freedom had been the closest thing to areal home they had ever had.

"I'll find a way to return them safely. You should understand that it is not safe for them to go back there. Even if they did. How would they get off the Island without a ship?" Sonja tried reasoning with him. She could only compromise and do damage control at this point.

Celia clicked her tongue in the corner of the room, displeased with how the queen was lowering herself and giving in to the demands of a half breed. This simple thing earned her the scorn of both parties. 'Just forget about him already! Please don't go through with this!' Celia was yelling within her mind.

She was a hardline supporter of the noble faction. She believed that they had earned their rights. Who else had shown her support when she went against the heroes? These nobles had sacrificed so much for her and their people. So was it so wrong to choose a king amongst them? At least she would know where their loyalties truly lay.

However, an ex-pirate and a half breed to boot? What was so commendable about that? Hardly the kind of role model that the civilians needed to look up to. It was like saying those who do bad deeds get rewarded. 'I have to try something else. If she can't be convinced then maybe I can throw a spanner in the works from his end.' She rolled her eyes in response to how the pair were looking at her. Leaving them to continue their quarrel.

'What was the name of that officer of his again? Mr Thomas, wasn't it? I'll have to have a quiet word with him...' She smiled as a plan began to take shape in her mind...
