The troops stationed on the walls gaped in shock at the scene Kace had created. Most of them had even failed to properly register that one of their enemies had managed to appear right in the middle of them without warning. Just as they suddenly came to their senses and began to charge at him, Kace suddenly let out a Plague Spear in each direction!

The unfortunate souls in the front lines did not have time to react as the spears penetrated their chests and sent them flying back into their crowded companions. As soon as they found themselves in the middle of their comrades, Kace clenched his fist and forced the spears to detonate.

A fine rain of blood, guts and flesh covered the troops closest to him as a poisonous fog was released in the epicentre of the explosions. Kace sneered at the pitiful humans who began to wheeze and break out in grotesque pus-filled sores. Kace glanced at the captains' dead bodies in front of him before casually bending over to pick one up.

Now that nobody could get close to him, he calmly raised the bloody scum of the neck to his mouth and tore a chunk out of it! Blood dribbled down his chin as he chewed the flesh with a pensive expression. 'Hm, seems like I was wrong. This tastes more like chicken than beef.' Kace did not feel any disgust any more as he chewed away at the chunk in his mouth.

Kace sighed as he swallowed his snack and waited for a few moments. 'Nope, no good. Let's see if the next one will give me anything.' Kace knew that he was not guaranteed to gain any benefits every time that he chowed down. Previously, he barely got the chance to eat in the middle of a battle since he was too weak to ensure his safety during the process.

However, things were different now. Kace's poisonous clouds were a defence all on their own that could buy him the time that he needed. One by one, he chewed into each of the bodies as the humans along the walls that had avoided his attack stared on in horror. Some were so overcome with fear they dropped their weapons and fled for the city's inner areas.

By the time he was done, Kace only managed to trigger his Assimilation ability once that awarded him a total of eight HP. Kace sighed with regret as this confirmed the low level of the heroes on the front line. If he wanted more significant gains, he would have to hunt the stronger existences amongst his enemies. Still, ever little helps, so Kace casually began to bite down on the humans who were still alive and writhing in pain in the cloud of poison!

Sounds of vomiting reached his ears as the onlookers could no longer bring themselves to spectate that scene. Each of them silently prayed that they would never have to experience the same fate. Slowly, the crowd began to back off. The captains had been the strongest amongst those gathered there, but they had died so pathetically.

As their morale hit rock bottom, a roar went up from the main monster army still outside of the city! Sophia had realised that this was the signal to begin the assault as the Tu'Thrag took control of the gate and began to open it! This city that had been a thorn in the side of the monster nation for so long due to the heroes schemes seemed to have already fallen.

The humans broke out in mass hysteria at the sight of the bloodthirsty monsters closing icon their homes. The regular humans fell to their knees one by one and began to weep in despair. Their thoughts went to their loved ones, and the end that was coming for them.

Kace's eyes flickered towards the city's centre, where a tall tower stood as he suddenly felt multiple powerful auras erupt from it. 'Seven.' Kace's eyes narrowed as he finally zeroed in on how many opponents were there. Each of them had the feeling that they should be around his own level. This had suddenly become a situation that he could no longer underestimate!

A warning suddenly sounded in Kace's mind from his phantom hydra head that forced him to dodge to the side rapidly. Simultaneously, as he moved his head out of the way, a sharp feeling gust of wind passed by his original position. Kace's eyes widened in shock. His own sense had not been enough to warn him of that attack.

Kace turned to stare at the tower yet again. Waiting to see if any more surprises would be unleashed. Several seconds passed before he received another warning that resulted in the exact same thing happening again. Kace frowned as he continued to stare at the tower in the distance. He felt like the existences inside were testing him somehow before stepping onto the battlefield.

Kace was pissed as it seemed like they were underestimating him! Just as he was about to shout out a challenge, an explosion suddenly occurred on the wall that he was standing on! Kace was thrown backwards and into the air with a load of debris. There had been no warnings that time which had caused him to be caught off guard!

His body fell from the walls and slammed onto the ground outside of the city. Kace coughed as the rough landing made his insides feel like they were being thrown around. Kace slowly opened his eyes to see metal bars rising up from the sand to block the now open gateway. The Tu'Thrag, on the other side, quickly escaped into the shadow realm to reappear around him.

The group stared at the bars with grim expressions as the charging monster army came to a sudden halt. Their assault, and what appeared to be a subsequent victory, had easily been repelled by the existences hidden within that tower!

Arrows and spells suddenly shot from the walls as Kace rose to his feet to stare at the situation. Cries went up from the monster army as the bombarded with various projectiles. Kace slowly shook his head in disappointment and sighed before voicing a new command.

"Fall back!"
