"Damn!" Kace cursed under his breath as he glowered at the undead. He could already hear the footsteps of a large crowd headed his way.
'This isn't good. What do I do?' Kace's mind raced as he tried to decide between retreating and still attempting to strike Constance. 'If that crowd arrives too soon, she can just hide behind them…'
Kace was facing a dilemma. Constance had to be dealt with as soon as possible. But it was unclear if that goal was attainable. There were too many variables to consider, and any of them could spell disaster. Kace grit his teeth as he considered his abilities. 'Should I try using my Beast Mode?'
The last time he had used it, he had remained in control. It was not a terrible option if he could do the same again. The only problem was, he did not know what he would turn into now that his DNA had changed. It may prove too much for him to handle.
'I better save it for now. I' drag Constance down first. If I can't handle her, then we'll use it…' Kace ignored the undead who were now fast approaching and turned his attention back to Constance. The Bone Golem clashed with Rysa once more. But the results looked bad for the Phoenix.
The green in her flames was swiftly overcoming her body. Kace estimated she had mere minutes left until it overtook her completely. Constance's attention was fully focused on the threat that Rysa posed to her. It was an ideal opportunity if Kace could reach her. 'Screw it! Here we go!'
With a burst of speed, Kace raced forward. Leaving the undead behind him. It would take them a lot longer to reach the battlefield than himself. So he felt confident in treating them as if they did not exist for now.
Rysa rained down fire on the Bone Golem from the sky, but Kace could tell that her attacks were weakening at a visible rate. 'She has to retreat. There's no way she can sustain this fight for much longer.' Kace's expression turned into a grim frown as he squinted at Constance's figure sitting on the Golem's shoulder.
The behemoth would be difficult to climb for almost anyone else. But Kace could use his Venomous Thread to achieve what others could not. It took him five minutes of sprinting at full speed to glimpse the Golem's foot. His eyes flashed with determination as he dodged the falling debris from the ruined buildings on either side of the street.
An enormous crowd consisting of over one hundred undead suddenly rushed out from a side street ahead of him. Kace smiled broadly as he watched them. They were attempting to set up a formation to halt his advance. But he was too fast! They could not even block off the street before he passed them by in a blur.
Loud moans accompanied his dash. They almost sounded like complaints, which they probably were. However, Kace paid them no mind now that his target was only a few feet away. He aimed a palm towards the Golem's ribcage and activated his Venomous Thread! With the speed he was sprinting at, it did not take long for him to swing out into the air in a wide arc.
His eyes remained trained on the prize. It seemed as if Constance was still, as yet, unaware of the danger approaching her. Rysa was about to blast the Golem with another wave of flames when she spotted the tiny figure swinging around her enemy's back. 'Idiot! He's going to get himself killed!'
The moment of hesitation that she displayed allowed the Golem to slam a fist through her fiery body. Another sizeable chunk of her flames turned green because of the attack. Rysa cursed under her breath as she studied what approach she could take to keep Constance's attention on herself. The enemy was bound to notice if she stopped using her large-scale flame attacks.
Rysa let out a loud screech as she gathered a massive attack in her mouth! Constance stared at the Phoenix with a grim expression when she felt the amount of mana that Rysa was gathering. 'This is going to be a big one.' However, that still did not deter Constance. She flicked her wrist and began to accumulate mana of her own in the palm of her hand.
Moments before Rysa unleashed her attack, Constance completed her spell. An eerie green barrier with a phantom skull in the centre appeared before her Golem. Rysa squinted at the barrier with a frown before unleashing her attack!
The air between the pair became distorted from the heat that her attack generated. Kace almost let go of his Thread from the sudden shock! However, the skull slowly opened its mouth and sucked in all the flames! Rysa kept up her assault, even as she watched her flames disappear harmlessly into the skull's mouth.
It was frustrating for the Phoenix to see this attack of hers be so easily thwarted by the enemy. Constance covered her mouth with her hand and bellowed out a high-pitched laughter at Rysa. That scene played out for several seconds as Kace swapped from one thread to another, making his way unobstructed towards Constance's rear.
"Did you really think that would work?" Constance threw a mocking look towards Rysa. "Silly chicken. You monsters are a stain on this world. Don't worry, we'll be sure to clean it up."
A dark look crossed Rysa's face as she considered all of the ways that she wanted to inflict pain upon this annoying woman. Her eyes suddenly darted to Constance's left side, which caught the latter's attention! Her head swivelled to see what Rysa was looking at… Only for a heavy boot to smash into her face!
Constance yelped as the blow threw her from her Golem's shoulder! A large boney hand moved to catch her. But someone had been waiting for this moment!
Rysa dived towards the figure and snatched Constance from the air before the Golem could save her! "I'll leave the big guy to you!"
Kace, who now stood on the Golem's shoulder, stared after the bird as it twirled in the sky and flew off…
