“Alright, let's get this show on the road!” Louis pumped his fist in the air, prompting the quiet applause of Gen and Lily and a small ‘woo’ (lowercase) from Fenris.
Louis pulled out a copy of the map to debrief the group.
“We just left the city from the south, so now we're in the plains region; we're gonna keep walking this way until we get to the steppes, where the stronger enemies are. We’ll hunt around there and, if we come across it ‘by chance’, we’ll pick up some of the foetida herb.”
“Yup,” Lily agreed. “We would never ignore the guild’s warnings and deliberately search for the herbs on our own.”
“Certainly—such delinquent behavior would be unfitting of model adventurers such as ourselves,” Gen sagely nodded.
“... I thought we were getting the herbs, though?” Fenris tilted his head.
“Yep.” “We are.”
“I see,” Fenris replied, a bit confused, but roughly understanding what the plan was.
While Louis packed away the map, Lily seemed to be spacing out with a giddy smile on her face.
“Ehe~”
“... Having fun?”
“-- Hweh?” Lily twitched as she came to her senses. She laughed sheepishly, scratching her cheek in embarrassment.
“S-sorry… I’m a bit excited since I’ve never done something ‘bad’ like this before,” she admitted.
“We're helping someone, though?” Fenris asked, getting slightly more confused.
“Well, that part’s fine. It's just… I’ve never done something after being told not to, so it feels like I’m doing something naughty.” Lily laughed bashfully, adding “—or something like that,” as she scratched her cheek again.
“Whoa, she’s a bonafide good girl…” “How pure…” Louis and Gen shielded their eyes from Lily’s dazzling aura.
Fenris, on the other hand, simply stared unblinkingly at Lily.

Fenris patted her on the head. “... Good girl.”
Lily froze in shock, but quickly started turning an impressive shade of red.
“... So Fen’s the older brother, huh?” Louis murmured, recalling that Fenris had mentioned having a sister.
While he hadn't noticed this when Fenris was patting him in the guild, seeing it as a third party allowed Louis to notice the peculiar gentleness in Fenris’s patting technique—which he’d immediately recognized as an older brother who frequently patted his own younger siblings.
… Well, most of them are too old for me to do that anymore. Louis mentally commented as he watched steam rising off of Lily’s blushing face.
“Wolfie, maybe you should stop patting Lily,” Gen suggested.
However, Fenris just looked at Gen with a blank expression.
“?? Why?” he tilted his head, still patting Lily.
As far as Fenris could tell, Lily didn't hate the pats—which probably meant she liked them. Headpats were nice, after all. While he had always patted Amiya to praise or comfort her, Fenris had never truly understood how wonderful they were until he was patted himself; now, he took it upon himself to share this knowledge with others. For some reason, Louis didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about getting pat, even though Gen and Lily helped too; Fenris supposed that it was simply a matter of preference. Nonetheless, he was convinced that most people would enjoy headpats. Ear scritches were even more amazing, but Fenris lamented the fact that people without animal ears would not get to experience them.
