‘... Well, I also have to cook for Amiya.’
Amiya had gone over to a friend’s house to study in the morning, since she had “forgotten” to do some homework yesterday and was consequently forbidden from gaming until it was done. To Ferris’s surprise, he had gotten a text from her saying that they had finished early, and that she would be home in time for lunch.
When Ferris was still in school, it would normally take him the rest of the day after getting home in order to complete his homework. For Amiya to have finished the dreaded weekend homework so quickly was an incredible feat; as far as he was concerned, his sister was a genius.
“I’m baaack~!” The aforementioned genius appeared, gently kicking the apartment door open and performing a forward roll into the house.
“Welcome back, Amiya.” Ferris replied as usual, adding, “... You didn't slam the door this time. Good job.”
“I did my best!” She nodded smugly. It was a delicate balance between controlling the force of her kick and still maintaining enough dynamism in her entrance; sometimes Amiya would forget to pay attention and accidentally unleash a fully-powered dynamic entrance, resulting in a slammed door.
“... You could also try coming in normally?” Ferris suggested.
“Eh, no way~”
“I see.” Apparently, that was out of the question.
… Well, it wasn't that big of a problem, so Ferris decided not to worry about it.
Amiya plopped her school bag down, taking a seat at the kitchen table before letting out a long siiiiigh.
“Guhhh… I hate school, I hate studying… Why can't I just stay home and play games?”
“... Because it only gets harder if you don't study early on.” Ferris’s eyes glazed over as he recalled his school days.
“O-oh.” Amiya sensed the darkness emanating from her brother. “B-but am I even going to use what I learn for anything?”
“Yeah...”
“Like what?”
“Paperwork. Taxes.” The gloom only grew deeper.
… Amiya decided to change the topic.
“So, did you play some NSOL this morning?”
“Mm?” Ferris snapped out of it. “Nn, I just logged out to make lunch… I’m at the river now.”
“Woah, really?” Amiya had expected him to stay near the lake. “How’d you end up over there?”
“My friends invited me.”
“Your… friends?” she blinked, taking a few moments to process his words before shooting to her feet.
“Omigosh, you have friends now?!” Amiya shouted, her face lighting up. “How did you meet them? What are their names? What are they like? Are they French? Are they--"
Ferris gently put a hand over Amiya’s mouth.
“Calm down a bit.”
“Mmph mphrl mmr!” she said, undeterred by the obstruction.
“Calm down.”
“Pwah—" Amiya freed her mouth. "I can't! They're your first friends since ever and you're playing withh them a-and I'm so habby for you that I think I'm gonna cry and--”
Suddenly, a pancake fell from the ceiling, landing directly on Amiya’s head.
“...” Amiya looked at Ferris.
“...” Ferris looked at the pancake.
In any case, Amiya had calmed down.

“It felt weird when they started touching (patting) me at first… but then, it started to feel good…” Ferris reminisced.
“... I see!” Amiya silently vowed to thoroughly interrogate his ‘friends’ later.

This chapter is a bit short because I started writing about Amiya’s friends, but then I realized I had no idea where I would fit them into the story, so I ended up cutting the entire 500+ word count section.
