[GAAaAaaAAHH!!!]

.

The large beast in front of me – a Fanghorn, let’s out a ferocious roar to vent its anger.

.

Nothing less than I expect from a class C monster.

Apart from it’s aggressiveness, it’s strength isn’t something to scoff at either.

.

[BBuuRRrrrRrRrRRoooooAA!!!!!!]

.

By the time it raises its second roar, the Fanghorn moves on quick with smoke trailing behind it’s feet as it charges right straight at me.

.

The way it dashes towards my direction make it resembles a lightning streak.

I see. So this monster capitalizes on its remarkable speed.

.

It’s a notch below compared to Dudley’s agility but getting rammed by such a large horn and body ain’t going to be funny. The pain that this charge will inflict is something I really don’t even want to imagine.

.

Then — I guess it’s time for you to shine once again.

.

Activate Skill, <Cheat Code Manipulation>.

Use ability, <Invulnerability (Minimal)>

.

[Be careful, Arios-san!]

.

Kaya’s scream then reaches my ears.

.

But she shouldn’t worry.

Though against weaker monsters, I’ve already tested this ability.

.

[GuUGuuRaaa…?]

.

The Fanghorn reaches my body and makes contact — but then, what happened just left it in shock.

.

Well, what do you expect?

The monster practically gave all of its strength to ram me to death just to see me receive it head on without any kind of repercussion.

.

No signs of any injury.

There’s no sign of any kind of pain either.

I’m just staring down the Fanghorn silently while it’s still in shock and panic.

.

[Well, time to finish things up.]

.

I pull my sword from its sheath and take my stance.

.

Invulnerability lasts until 5 seconds but has a cooldown time of 3 minutes before I’d be able to reuse it… I don’t know what’s the theory behind this ability but these are my findings after experimenting for one whole week.

.

[Sword of Origin, First Form, Netherworld Flash.]

[UgAGAgAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!]

.

My sword slashes through the monster in one clean sweep before it started to stumble and fall down helplessly.

.

.

.

.

[…Uhm, Arios-san?]

[Yes?]

[D-d-did you get stronger once more? It seems to me that you can’t be compared anymore to who you were from the duel before….]

[Haha… I wonder about that.]

.

Well, I ended up learning two new abilities after that fight afterall.

I guess it isn’t even a lie to say that I got one step closer towards my goal to become stronger.

.

…Still, a true sword saint won’t allow himself to drown from his accomplishments.

.

Just like the first sword saint, I think I should keep my feet on the ground and stay humble no matter how strong I become. Likewise, I don’t want to flaunt and brag about myself just because I was able to win against Dudley.

.

[I still have a long way to go though. I need to be strong… stronger than ever before.]

[A long way to go, you say… I can’t say that’s really convincing after seeing you not even getting a scratch after getting a full front assault from a Fanghorn.]

[Oh, about that. I actually have this ability to nullify any kind of injury for at least 5 seconds, you see.]

[What the heck, isn’t that too much of a cheat!]

.

I really can’t blame Kaya screaming out loud after hearing what I said.

.

[Ha… I-if that’s the case, how could I ever reach you then…]

.

Kaya looks upset as she looks like she’s having a headache.

.

But it’s the truth and I want to be honest to her about it.

.

–It started a week after the duel with Dudley Claise.

I’m just completing quests as usual. However, though I am still a D rank adventurer, I am being allowed to take on quests designated to C ranks for reasons I do not know.

.

That’s why I was fighting against a Fanghorn earlier, a class C monster.

.

With the class of the monster being higher than my ranking as an adventurer, Kaya took the quest with me while saying ‘I’ll join you just in case though I don’t think it’s kind of unnecessary’.

.

Just where did this unfounded confidence in me keep coming from.

.

There’s the Guild Master Arturo too.

.

[I believe any quests can be completed if it’s Arios-dono who will take it.]

.

So he said.

.

Really, I’m starting to feel overrated.

.

But even though he said that, it still isn’t simple for them to give me a B rank quest to fulfill.

The issue doesn’t lie with my abilities but due to the headquarter’s policy.

.

[You’ll probably get promoted to C rank sooner or later at this rate, don’t you think so, Arios-san? But more than that, the idea of you becoming someone beyond an S rank adventurer isn’t far fetched either…]

[Beyond an S rank…?]

[An Irregular. Oh, the word perfectly describes you as well, Arios-san!]

[Pu-please, enough with the teasing…]

.

What kind of rank is an ‘Irregular’.

Isn’t just that literally saying that I’m someone abnormal?

.

The thought makes me a bit uncomfortable so, *cough, cough*, yep, let’s focus on the corpse of the Fanghorn instead.

.

[…More importantly, we better start processing this monster’s corpse. The sun’s about to set too after all.]

[You’re right. Still, the time we spend together with just the both of us is something that makes me happy, just in case you’ll ask me.]

[…Just what are you saying all of a sudden, really….]

.

I let out a sigh as I whispered my reply.

I walk towards the corpse of the Fanghorn – and at that moment—

.

[…….zt.]

.

I halt my movements all of a sudden.

I turn around and my companion’s eyes meet mine.

.

[What seems to be the matt — oh…]

.

Though a bit late, Kaya now noticed as well the strange presence I felt. Her face stiffens as she turns and looks toward the same direction as me.

.

[Arios-san… There’s something… or someone must be there.]

[Yeah. I don’t feel any kind of hostility coming from it but… just who’s that supposed to be.]

.

An underling of Saviors’ of Arceus, maybe?

.

But then, it would be strange for it to hold no hostility. They should be looking at me as one of their enemies and it’s hard to believe that they’ll bear no ill intent towards me.

.

…Just, what is that person supposed to be then…

.

[H-he…lp…]

.

*—thud—*

.

A strange noise immediately followed then.

.

Now what.

Though it’s kinda vague, it seemed like it was asking for help…

.

Kaya and I look at each other for a second before we slowly approach the spot where the presence and noise came from.

.

[Ah… That’s…]

.

Kaya’s eyes then widened in surprise.

.

Afterall, on top of the ground covered by thin lushful grass, lies a figure of a scrawny girl that’s fallen down.

.

[This child… She’s a slave…?]

.

Kaya then whispers after seeing so.
