Everyone's heads turned to the side as they heard the beating get closer and closer.
The ground underneath them seemed to be shifting unnaturally, twirling and moving in waves, it felt almost rubbery...
"What the hell? What's this about Shiki?!" Francisco asked while looking at his companion.
But the Golden Lion shook his head.
"The earth around us is no longer in my control..." The float devil fruit user sweated a bit as he felt his control becoming dulled at that moment, something that he hadn't ever experienced in the past. Not in such a way.
It wasn't that his devil fruit ability was affected, no he could still feel the earth he was controlling remotely.
But the stones and rocks at his feet seemed to have gained a will of their own and were rebelling against him.
And instantly, as if out of a volcano, a laughing figure was spat out of the ground.
"Shishishishi~"
Everyone's eyes immediately turned to the skies, and the clouds parted unnaturally, revealing the bright moon behind them.
And in front of that moon jumped a skinny and strange figure, almost cartoonish in nature, with a head flowing as if it was made of white flame.
"L-Luffy?!?" Garp's eyes widened and almost seemed to pop out of his skull unnaturally as he looked at the figure of Luffy.
His hair and most of his clothes turned white, only his sandals, straw hat and belt stayed the same colour.
His eyes glowed with red ring-like pupils, and a mantle of white clouds floated around his neck.
"I feel strong! I can do everything I've ever wanted! Shishishishi!" Luffy laughed as he stood in the sky, grabbing at his forehead with an everpresent smile on his face.
Kaido, for the second time that day, felt a strange feeling welling up inside of him.
In his mind, the description of a legend kept repeating itself in his mind.
"Joyboy..." He mouthed those words under his breath, completely ignoring the pain from his injuries and cracked ribs.
Luffy's speed seemed to have increased a lot, as he turned into a blur and appeared back on the ground, the rocks he stepped on all seemed to flutter and turn into rubber with every bouncy step he took.
"I feel it! This is my peak! Gear fifth!" Luffy laughed out loud while kicking the rubber stone underneath him constantly, out of his body came out a significant amount of yellow lightning, which shot towards the sky.
His Conqueror's Haki manifestation was almost blinding for most of the people nearby.
Luffy only laughed again, before his gaze was finally set on Kaido, who immediately became weary.
The Sun God's red eyes shined as he laughed historically, his head shaking as he did so, his hand also clenching into a fist.
"Gomu Gomu no Mogura Pistol! (Mole Pistol!)" To Kaido's surprise, Luffy's fist moved at speeds far surpassing anything he had shown before.
But he didn't punch directly towards Kaido, instead, his fist burrowed into the ground.
The Dragon's senses twinkled as he quickly brought his burly arm in front of him, guarding his injured torso and face.
And the same instant that he did so, Luffy's fist, covered in a layer of rubbery rock, coated in both Armament and infused with Conqueror's Haki, rushed at his gut.
Kaido's scales immediately turned an ebony black as they shone in the moonlight.
The Dragon felt the punch hit his arm, and immediately relaxed as he didn't feel much pain at all.
'I guess it was a fluke...'
Well, he didn't get to rejoice for long, as he immediately felt a powerful blow spike into his gut.
Looking downwards, his eyes almost came out of their sockets as he watched Luffy's punch bend all reality around him and punch straight through Kaido, turning him rubbery as well.
The Dragon spat out a lot of blood as he was once again sent flying, spinning through the air as he flew across the entirety of Onigashima.
"Shishishi!"
But Luffy wasn't done, his legs started spinning and moving sporadically as he sprinted madly in Kaido's direction.
It wasn't long before he had overtaken the confused King of Beasts.
He stopped at some point, putting himself right in the Dragon's Trajectory while saying something about his muscles and inflating himself while flexing.
Kaido scowled, he immediately twisted his body and moved his arm, trying to swing his fist towards Luffy, using his momentum to try and put the transformed rubber man down for good.
The Dragon Emperor's fist turned black, and purple lighting rolled off of it and in front of him. Though he had lost his club, that didn't mean he couldn't use his techniques anymore...
At the same time that Kaido did that, the Rubber Human started spinning his right arm, winding it up cartoonishly as he gave the King of Beasts a wide smirk.
"Gomu Gomu no Star Gun!" "Thunder Bagua!"
Kaido's gigantic fist made contact with Luffy's face at the exact same time Luffy's smaller fist made contact with his chin.
Yellow and Purple lighting lashed out and burnt through most of the battlefield. Causing the others to at the very least cover their eyes. Zephyr even had to take a few steps back in order to brace himself.
Luffy's entire upper body seemed to sink into itself as Kaido tried to apply more and more pressure.
The King of Beasts felt his teeth cracking as they clenched tight against each other, Luffy's powerful fist striking him in the jaw with enough power to rattle his brains.
In an instant, Luffy was sent flying backwards spinning rapidly as he screamed in a strange way, and Kaido was sent flying towards the skies, his mouth bleeding as he uncontrollably reached the clouds.
He couldn't help but notice that the clouds seemed much calmer than before, they hadn't even returned to cover up the moon, which was now staring at him.
He remembered the many nights he had spent trying to look for that light. To find the hope that could break through those stormy clouds... But now that the light was in front of him, he couldn't help but feel indignant.
'Joyboy... What an absurd being... My punch from earlier felt ineffective, almost as if his immunity to blunt attacks now doesn't care for haki anymore...
I can't fight him in this form, I need to take things more seriously!'
He immediately tried to shift into his Dragon form, his most powerful transformation.
His muscles shifted, and his tail seemed to start growing bigger as his bone structure started shifting rapidly.
But just as it did so, Kaido felt a burning sensation, before his vision was blinded by light.
He released a pain grunt as he was struck by lightning, and he once again began to hear the same drumming, looking to the side he saw the figure of the Sky King, Enel, looking at him with a smile.
'Shit! I can't go all out with him here... No, I need to take him down too!'
This time, the Dragon Emperor pulled through the pain, and shifted his body into that of a massive dragon, covering most of Onigashima and also casting a shadow over half of Wano, Flower Capital included.
The people of the Flower Capital watched the scene with bated breath as the clouds bellowed with thunder, at the rhythm of a steady drum.
Kaido's eyes shined, and his azure scales were immediately engulfed by flames as he took on his most powerful form.
The Dragon ignored the pressure on his curved spine, the same one that had crushed him into the ground previously.
"Demolition Wind!"
He opened his massive maw towards the flying Sky King and released a massive barrage of greenish flying slashes.
The clouds were immediately severed as Enel tilted his head and turned into a blur.
He danced around in the sky with a smile, dodging each and every strike with practised ease.
He went from up to down, reforming constantly, and Kaido's opened maw followed him with every turn.
Eventually, Enel appeared by Kaido's head, right near his massive eye.
The Sky King smiled while tilting his head and making eye contact with the King of Beasts.
"Are you sure I am the one you should be concerned about right now?" The Sky King's voice came a tad too late.
Kaido's eyes widened, his pupils immediately turning upwards, as a massive shadow seemed to form in the clouds above his head.
"Let's end this, Kaido! Gomu Gomu no Bajrang Gun!"
It was none other than Luffy, a gigantic version of Luffy to be more specific.
The only thing that stood out even more besides the fact that he had reached the size of the biggest giants, was that his hand had stretched out and enlarged to the point where it was significantly bigger than Onigashima.
The King of Beast's flaming body was still significantly bigger, but Luffy's fist was easily half of his body, and it was angled at his head, aiming to crush him.
"It won't be so easy, you brat!" The Dragon Emperor Roared as his mouth filled with flames.
"Devastating Breath!" His mouth opened to release a torrent of burning black flames, but just before it opened the Dragon felt every muscle in his body become paralyzed.
"Now now, let's not delay the inevitable even more, Kaido... You've played your role." To the side, the Sky King's voice rang into the gigantic Dragon's ears.
That uncaring and disregarding voice enraged the Dragon even further. Kaido threw aside his fears immediately. his gaze turned towards the gigantic fist, which was now much closer, too close for him to pull off any other special attack.
"Don't underestimate me!" The Dragon roared as he turned his head towards the fist, his entire head bursting with purple Conqueror's Haki and black flame.
Gigantic Yellow Lightning Clashed with Kaido's purple lighting, it made the Sky King sweat a bit on the sidelines.
'Seems that Luffy has already surpassed me in Conqueror's haki...' The Sky King simply shook his head before narrowing his eyes.
The Dragon clashed with the newly awakened Sun God, and it seemed that, at least for now, Kaido was wining.
'Can't have that. now can we?'
In an instant, Enel appeared behind Luffy, surprising the awakened future Pirate King.
"Long ears!" Luffy shouted as he then felt a palm on his back.
In an instant, his eyes widened, as he felt his entire body fill with a powerful and destructive energy, one that for some reason couldn't harm him at all.
But it all headed to his gigantic fist. In an instant, Luffy's fist became covered in a layer of black lightning.
Kaido roared once more, still hanging on as he felt and bore the pressure of the two Gods on his twisted spine.
"You're done Kaido! I'll defeat you and become Pirate King!"
"I won't let you!"
The King of Beasts tried to retaliate, fanning his flames and ramping up his willpower, which once again seemed to be getting stronger and stronger by the minute.
But it wasn't enough to face the combined power of two gods. And it wasn't long before his twisted spine snapped.
Kaido felt it, his horns turning to dust, his skull cracking... And the last thing he managed to do was to look up.
In his last moments, his mind was cleared of frustration and anger, it was clear of the struggle he had put up whilst living.
The Moonlight was now covered. No, it was almost as if the light he had sought had turned into the fist that crushed him...
And that realization made him smile.
His mind was no longer clouded by the arrogance imbued into him by the will of his Devil Fruit.
And thanks to that, he could see it. There was light, with Joyboy came the possibility of freedom. True freedom.
'Heh... Maybe there is hope for this world after all...'
As for him... Well, he realised he was dying. He wasn't going to see the light at the end of the tunnel, he only caught a glimpse of it.
But he felt strangely fulfilled... After all, it was his death that bridged the gap. It seemed that Enel had wanted him to do that from the start, to awaken Joyboy.
'Ah... Such a glorious death... I thank you, Joyboy... Sky King...'
And just like that, the King of Beasts breathed his last, finally able to follow in the footsteps of the men he had respected so much in the past.
Luffy's fist completely crushed Kaido's head, turning it into mush as he pressed the Dragon's gigantic body towards the ground.
From the ground, a massive patch of flying earth shifted, catching the Dragon's body before it caused any damage to Wano.
The Golden Lion acted quickly enough it seemed, which made Enel smile.
And with that... Wano was well and truly liberated.
And that meant the world itself was one step closer to liberation as well.
