Shu Nuan helped pick up her things silently and then supported her in getting up. Wen Zhigu waited for her to get up and raise her head. She saw that it was Shu Nuan and was stumped for words. Clearly uncomfortable, she muttered, “Thank you.”
“What’s wrong with your hand?”
Shu Nuan had noticed the blood-stained gauze wrapped around Wen Zhigu’s wrist, and she always had negative ideas about things.
But she only got a simple response.
“I was careless and scratched myself.”
With that, the girl turned to leave, but before she could take even half a step, she felt dizzy and tottered. Shu Nuan grasped her right hand. She realised the girl didn’t want to say how her wrist had been hurt, and so she didn’t ask her again. Taking her to a nearby stone chair, Shu Nuan sat her down. She frowned and asked, “Would you like to have a rest first?”
“I need to go buy some medicine.”
“What medicine? Let me buy it for you,” Shu Nuan offered.
Wen Zhigu looked at her and whispered, “Musk.”

Shu Nuan wasn’t able to respond for a while.
“What do you buy that for?”
Wen Zhigu stared at Shu Nuan with an odd expression. In a voice tinged with mockery, she asked, “Has the Fourth Prince deflowered your body yet?”
Shu Nuan was stunned and her face flushed.
To her, Wen Zhigu was a pure and cold young girl, and not someone who could say such a thing. Shu Nuan hadn’t expected her to speak in a blatant manner.
“I… with him… we haven’t…”
Shu Nuan wasn’t sure what to say. But Wen Zhigu stared at her for a while, and then she blinked her eyes in understanding and withdrew her eyes. With a cold smile, she said, “He’s very good to you then.”
Shu Nuan realized the meaning of her words. But stunned, her eyes came to rest on Wen Zhigu’s still flat abdomen. She really didn’t know what to say, and uttered, “Is it Ji Xubai?”
Wen Zhigu hung her eyes, meaning the guess was right.
Shu Nuan had never thought that Ji Xubai could be such a beast. She frowned and said, “Why don’t you mention this to Teacher Li and Head Master Chen? Such a man as Ji Xubai is not fit to be a teacher of the academy.”
Wen Zhigu listened to the naive remarks and felt they were humorous. She smiled and opened her mouth to softly answer, “I looked for Master Chen once. He fined Ji Xubai a month’s salary, and later my brother was sold to Hancheng as a slave.”
Shu Nuan was quiet. She understood what Wen Zhigu had meant. She lowered her eyes and said nothing more.
Here in Beiguo Kingdom, where status was authority, the humble were the ones who suffered.
Shu Nuan faced Wen Zhigu and asked, “If there was a good person who had the power, would you expose Ji Xubai?”
Wen Zhigu ask flatly, “Do you mean the Fourth Prince?”
Shu Nuan didn’t deny.
But Wen Zhigu thought she was too naive and couldn’t help but make fun of her.
“Shu Nuan, if I recall correctly, you are a slave from the Qing Kingdom, right? These powerful people like you only because you are naive. If you stay low, you can at least have a safe life. And you dare to have the Fourth Prince do something for you?”
Shu Nuan bowed her head and remembered the scene she’d seen outside the barracks not long ago. She didn’t say a word.
