Chapter 125: Deceiving Uncle Sheng (23)

“I don’t know the way,” Shu Nuan explained awkwardly.

The shop-owner’s wife was still in a good mood. Humming a little song, she finished packing the snacked and held them out to her.

“It’s okay. Just ask someone on the road. The Su Family is well-known.”

“Alright.”

Shu Nuan took off her afron and washed her hands. When she came out, the shop-owner’s wife looked at her and said, “Little girl, you’re in a bad mood. Did you fail the exam?”

“No,” Shu Nuan mumbled, a little helpless.

“Ah. You make me worry. Well, there’s still one cake left. Here you go.”

Shu Nuan was hungry, and so she took it.

“Thank you, madam.”

“Go ahead, go ahead. Take care.”

The shop-owner’s wife drove her out while still humming as she made snacks.

What she didn’t expect was that the one who wanted to eat the sweet potato yam cake would be the child she’d talked to in a street a while back.

Little Su Su also recognized her as the beautiful sister who had invited him to eat snacks that day. He asked her in a daze, “Sister, are you the newly hired master of the pastry workshop in the Li Shop?”

“Just a little apprentice,” Shu Nuan responded truthfully.

“Su su.”

A deep voice called the child from behind her. Little Su Su looked over her shoulder and ran to embrace Su Huang’s leg.

“Father. This is the little sister who invited Su Su to eat snacks last time. Su Su promised sister to take her to eat. Please, father, ask her to stay, okay?”

Su Huang looked toward the woman whose back seemed a little familiar. When she turned around, he saw her clearly and raised his eyebrows.

“It’s you.”

Shu Nuan hadn’t expected that the child’s father was the person who’d appeared in the Moon Pavilion with Sheng Qianmo that day. There was such a coincidence possible.

Shu Nuan was quiet for a moment before she said, “The shop is still very busy. I’ll go first.”

“You no longer work at the Moon Pavilion?” Su Huang asked her with a feigned smile as he took his son’s hand into his own.

Shu Nuan noticed the clear ridicule in his eyes. While pretending to be sympathetic, it seemed to say that she was bearing the consequences of her own actions.

“No.”

After saying that, Shu Nuan prepared to leave.

But Little Su Su pulled her sleeve, still persevering.

“Sister, stay and eat with Little Su Su…”

Shu Nuan gently removed the child’s hand and tried to speak in a low voice.

“Sister is busy now. Let’s do it later.”

Little Su Su wanted to say something, but Su Huang grasped his hand.

“Su Su. Behave.”

Although Little Su Su acted spoiled in front of other adults, even being sweet and unctuous with his father, but he was scared of his father when he got serious. One time he’d been thrown into the woodshed by his father without being allowed to come out, left alone to cry all night. So when his father told him to behave, Little Su Su became a little afraid. He bowed his head and let Shu Nuan go.

Su Huang frowned and asked his son, “Why was she with you?”

“She…”

Little Su Su almost wanted to say that she looked so gentle, like a mother, even though he had never seen his mother.

But he stopped talking.

His father didn’t like it when he mentioned his mother.

His father would be angry.

In the end, Little Su Su only muttered, “I promised pretty sister that I’ll take her to eat…”

Su Huang was silent for a while. Then he said in a faint voice, “Next time, when she is not busy.”

Hearing this, Little Su Su’s eyes lit up, and he said, “Okay!”
