The rain was only pouring harder. Sheng Qianmo took the carriage. Upon lifting the curtain, he found Shu Nuan still kneeling under the tree. Her whole body was soaked, and her small hands held the sleeves tight with cold. Shaking all over, her little face was wet and her expression flustered.

Sheng Qianmo stared at the girl kneeling under the tree. Why did she have to be so stubborn even when she was clearly so weak?

Sheng Qianmo got off the carriage, and Li Yuan opened the umbrella to shelter him. However, Sheng Qianmo waved away the umbrella with a cold face and walked towards Shu Nuan.

The little girl knelt in the rainy night, like a pathetic person abandoned by the world.

Yet, he appeared again and stood in front of her.

Shu Nuan looked up at him with tears, turning stunned and staring at him. Her lips trembled; she felt too cold to speak.

Sheng Qianmo said slowly, “Get up.”

Shu Nuan still kept shedding tears, her mouth sealed tight. Her temperament was like a child’s; after being taught a lesson, she could endure without crying, but once he began to coax her, she broke down crying again.

Shu Nuan didn’t stand. Kneeling there, she continued to cry out loud, sobbing badly.

Sheng Qianmo pulled her up, and Shu Nuan had no strength to wield against him. Her small hands were cold with the rain, and he grabbed her by both hands to pick her up.

Shu Nuan trembled and said, “Don’t… you hold…”

Sheng Qianmo answered, “Yes,” and then carried the little girl back up.

Her small hands grabbed his shoulder while her mouth bit on it as she kept whining with extreme grievance.

Sheng Qianmo let her bite his shoulder. He took the little girl back to the carriage, sat down, and took her into his arms. He placed a blanket over her body. Despite this, she kept shivering with cold, to the point that she gradually lost the strength to cry. She just wanted to sleep, but Sheng Qianmo refused to let her. He picked up her chin and whispered, “Go back to sleep after bathing.”

Shu Nuan’s  eyes were red as she stared at him. When she looked at him, tears couldn’t help but fall down again, and her mouth remained shut.

Sheng Qianmo knew her grievance and regretted that he had said those words to her in the spur of the moment, making her so sad.

He lowered his head and rubbed her wet eyelashes, trying to appease her emotions.

Shu Nuan did not move. Her body was soft and flabby, as lovely as before, but without any spirit.

After returning to the palace, Sheng Qianmo ordered some servants to prepare hot water, letting them change Shu Nuan into clean clothes. He also ordered the imperial physician to come and check her pulse. At this time, Shu Nuan was lying on his couch, looking listless. She looked at up with drooping eyelids and a disoriented gaze.

The imperial physician told him that she had signs of high fever. Although she’d caught the fever, but she’d been found in time, and so the imperial physician prescribed tonics and sent the decoction.

Sheng Qianmo raised Shu Nuan’s pillows to make her feel more comfortable. When he was about to feed her the medicine, she was in a half-awake state. She smelled the medicine and turned her head, refusing to let him touch her. His hand reached over, yet Shu Nuan pulled away his grasp. Tears fell down again as she murmured, “Don’t…”

Sheng Qianmo didn’t know how to coax her this time. This little sheep was usually clever and obedient, but in sickness she was stubborn as a cow. She wouldn’t listen to him and wouldn’t drink her medicine.
