Although a lot of problems had arisen, they had fortunately been dealt with.

Shu  Nuan went to the Li Shop early. When the shop-owner’s wife saw her coming, she told Shu Nuan that she was leaving for a short while, entrusting the shop to Shu Nuan without much explanation. Shu Nuan stepped behind the counter to watch over the shop.

A little while later, she saw the child of the Su family come in alone. He sat down in front of the window and looked at the cakes in a gloomy mood. Shu Nuan looked outside and realized that no one was accompanying him. She took a piece of freshly-baked crystal cake and handed it to him to eat.

“Little Susu, are you alone?”

Little Susu looked up at her, nodded in frustration, took the crystal cake, and whispered, “Thank you, Sister Shu Nuan.”

Little Susu was always dragging the servants in charge of him to visit the Li Shop. Over time, he naturally found out her name.

However, it was her first time seeing this little guy so unhappy. There were few people in the store, so she took him towards the counter and poured him a cup of tea. “What’s the matter?” she asked.

Little Susu took a bite of the crystal cake and looked sad.

“Dad is going to war.”

“How can that be. Hasn’t the north been quite peaceful recently?” Shu Nuan asked.

Little Susu didn’t understand any words of peace or war, but he was gloomy and he said, “Dad said he would go to a distant place for a long time. I wanted to go with him, but he won’t let me go. Dad doesn’t want me…”

Shu Nuan looked at the child and said softly, ”No, your dad left Little Susu temporarily to protect his country. He will come back.”

Little Susu placed his hand on top of the counter, lay prone on it, and said in a muffled voice, “I don’t like war…”

“No one likes to fight.” Shu Nuan frowned.

She hadn’t forgotten herself dyed in the smoke, nor did not forget the splendid and magnificent palace burned down into billowing smoke overnight. She hadn’t forgotten the green land with rivers of blood.

No one wanted to bleed. But in this era of strife, if you wanted to be strong, you had to bleed. This was what Shu Nuan thought.

Little Susu did not stay too long at the shop. Soon someone came from the Su Manor to pick him up.

The shop-owner’s wife didn’t come back until closing time. Shu Nuan had to help close the shop, so she put away the things before going back to the Sheng Courtyard. Just, on her way home, she met Sheng Qianmo who had personally come to pick her up.

Sheng Qianmo had changed into a military uniform as if he’d come directly from the barracks.

Shu Nuan stood and watched him coming. Sheng Qianmo took her things and then bent down. Shu Nuan was surprised, but she obediently climbed atop his back.

 “Tired or not?”

Shu Nuan shook her head and put her arm around his neck.

“Your Highness came from the barracks?”

Sheng Qianmo only gave a faint “uh-huh” and said, “Tomorrow we will leave for Southern Xinjiang.”

Shu Nuan bowed her head and bit her lip, but she did not speak.

Apparently, when she had been at the Li Shop, she could still act mature and say some kind words to Little Susu. But at this moment, she couldn’t find a way to calm herself.

Her mind buzzed. The prince wis leaving.

He was going to Southern Xinjiang.

Southern Xinjiang was far–very far away.

Even Little Susu said it would take a long time to come back.

But this was a state affair, and she had no qualification to have a word on it.

After returning to the bedchamber, Shu Nuan waited on him to change his clothes with her head down as usual, remaining silent throughout the process.
