My Little Girl (42)

Shu Nuan seemed to be in a good mood because she could go back to the academy. Along the way, the little girl supported herself on the window sill of the carriage, gazing at the scenery without. She would turn back and tell Sheng Qianmo everything she saw, like a child marvelling at the world.

As Sheng Qianmo had prearranged the meeting this time, Head Master Chen and Master Gao came in person to welcome them. The former even reprimanded Shu Nuan’s teacher in front of the prince. It seemed this time Master Gao had to pay for Shu Nuan’s loss.

Indeed, Shu Nuan had always been a clever student, unwilling to provoke anyone, and with a good ability to learn. How could he ask Shu Nuan to not attend the academy for a while just because of some rumors spread by Sheng Gu?

After the meeting was over, Sheng Qianmo assured Shu Nuan to leave with Master Gao. He said that if he would have the time, he would come to pick her up personally.

Master Gao gave the little girl a warm welcome to the Tenth Class a few days later, which came as a surprise to many. After all, the Yulin Academy was a college that paid much attention to its reputation. Incidentally, it proved that Shu Nuan was backed by the Fourth Prince. So when she returned, no one from the class dared to question her regarding this matter. More so because Master Gao had informed them earlier that anyone found engaging in wanton gossip would risk being kicked out of the academy.

No one would dare mention this incident in the future as well.

It could be said that the incident didn’t affect her life after returning to the academy at all. She didn’t think much about the past, and continued to study as usual.

Meanwhile, Sheng Qianmo had just come out of the academy, planning to visit the military camp. But just as he was about to get into the carriage, Sheng Lingyun, who was riding a horse, happened upon him. Acting surprised, he asked, “What a coincidence! Fourth Brother, why did you come here this early in the morning?”

Sheng Qianmo naturally didn’t believe it to be a chance encounter. After all, Sheng Lingyun did not have a reason to be at the Yulin Academy. So with indifferent eyes he chose to speak in a straightforward manner. “Do you have something to say?”

“Fourth Brother, why are you so indifferent? Can’t I talk to you without something being the matter?”

Sheng Qianmo turned and lifted the curtain to get into the carriage. Seeing him get ready to leave, Sheng Lingyun rushed up and stopped him . “Wait, wait, Fourth Brother. I’m here for my little niece.”

Sheng Qianmo bunched his brows together and spared him a cold glance.

“Fourth Brother, you don’t have to be like this anymore. I went to Shenghe Manor and heard about the entire ordeal. Even though little niece has committed a heavy offense in her lack of discipline, she has learned her lesson. And you have even punished her. Won’t you spare our niece this time?”

However, Sheng Qianmo explained in a cold voice, “I should spare her? If I don’t punish her, she’ll only act in a more reckless manner next time.”

Sheng Lingyun sighed in helplessness. “Yes, this time it is her fault. But after all, she is Second Brother’s daughter. She is different from others. She had no father or mother since childhood and has always suffered from bad luck. She has been dependent on you since childhood. You suddenly have a new pet. It is normal that she is not happy at the moment. Now she has realized the seriousness of the situation. I believe our niece will not make such a mistake again in the future.”

Sheng Qianmo snorted, but didn’t say anything.

Obviously, he had to take into account his Second Brother.

Seeing this, Sheng Lingyun added, “When I went to see niece Gu, I saw that she was thin again, crying all the time, and she refused to take the medicine as well. I promised to come talk to you, and only then did she agree to take the medicine. Fourth Brother, she is our niece. There is no reason why an elder should be angry with a child, is there?”

Sheng Qianmo sank, “This Prince knows how far to go.”

Hearing this, Sheng Lingyun knew that his brother agreed with his plea, and his heart was relieved to know that his trip had not been in vain.
