My Little Girl (61)

Sheng Qianmo didn’t sleep and instead accompanied Shu Nuan for the night. Only once the night ended did he separate himself from her side. He moved her to the bed in a gentle manner and with care left the room to prepare for her breakfast. When he returned, he paused a little.

Shu Nuan didn’t know when she had woken up. Holding her knees, she was sitting on the edge of the bed with her disheveled black hair draped over her face. She was rubbing her sore eyes when she heard the sound of footsteps, then lifted her head to look up, frightened and stumped for words.

“Time to wake up.” Sheng Qianmo walked over.

Shu Nuan nodded, but as she was about to speak up, she found her throat dry and hoarse, as if it had been burned.

Sheng Qianmo poured her a glass of water. Softly speaking, Shu Nuan mumbled, “Your humble slave thanks Your Highness.” She then took the cup filled with water and drank it sip by sip.

After she was done, the prince took the cup out of her hand and put it on the bedside table. He held out his hand against her forehead. “Does your head still hurt?”

Truthfully, Shu Nuan wasn’t sure what to say. She shook her hand, and then, with quite some courage, grasped his hand and caressed it onto her forehead. In response Sheng Qianmo stared at her with a blank face. His lips took on an odd angle, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words.

Sheng Qianmo began to rebuke her. “Can’t you take care your own body? Kneeling there all day, naked?”

After being criticized by him, her eyes turned redder. He grabbed her hands by force, but in doing so he felt the softness and the heat from the fever she still had. She bowed her head and pursed her lips before whispering, “It was Your Highness who told me to.”

Sheng Qianmo pinched her dainty nose. “You still dare to talk back?”

Tears flowed down Shu Nuan’s face and she gave a choked up sob, as if admitting she had been in the wrong.

Sheng Qianmo found out that Shu Nuan was mortified by what had happened this time. Even though he hadn’t used a harsh tone, she had cried over a few words.

Sheng Qianmo couldn’t bear to rebuke her again. He wiped her tears. “All right, don’t cry.”

Shu Nuan clutched her fingers tight and pursed her lips. She didn’t dare to speak nonsense nor cry again for fear that he would get angry.”Are you hungry?”

Shu Nuan shook her head, but Sheng Qianmo still picked her up from the bed and placed her on his lap. She leaned down and held her slender ankle as he put on her shoes for her, and they went out of the bedroom hall.

Seeing the food being served, Shu Nuan began to eat. She already was a glutton and adding onto it her circumstances, she didn’t stop until every dish was wiped clean. She also didn’t try to explain the matter with Jing Fei as she didn’t want the prince to misunderstand her.

After eating, Sheng Qianmo had her medicine brought in. Her little nose wrinkled up after smelling the medicine. She couldn’t help but twist up her features a little, unable to bear its odor.

But Sheng Qianmo half coaxed and half ordered her. “You have to drink the medicine to recover.”

Shu Nuan didn’t want to. But she wouldn’t dare disobey the prince either. She had to endure the bitter taste as she opened her mouth a little and allowed him to feed her the medicine.

Sheng Qianmo observed the little girl sipping the medicine with difficulty, but pretended to be calm. Her twisted expression was depressing, but he said while wiping at Shu Nuan’s glistening lip with his fingertip, “You look aggrieved.”
