Chapter 379: Unparalleled speed

Shane stood inside the arena, facing a variant beast that had once been a winged cheetah.

Most likely after its evolution, horns grew on top of its head, above its ears, and it received a lightning affinity.

It's fur was black-purplish as well as its feathered wings that were consistently releasing faint electric currents.

At least that was what Shane assumed.

Looking at the cheetah, he felt intrigued. Shane knew that Umbra would most likely turn into a flood dragon before ascending to a real dragon.

This meant that he would be able to fly without having any issues.

However, looking at the cheetah, and having seen how it fought against its previous opponents, Shane could only smile brightly.

"A fast land and aerial beast with lethal attacks, let alone potent affinity… is that what I'm looking for?"

Since he wanted to use the Primordial tournament to strengthen himself, looking for a certain type of beast to turn into his third tamed beast wouldn't be much of an issue.

Nevertheless, he would only bind newly born beasts and his reason for that was simple yet essential!

Not only had he received a new ability that amplified his strength if a tamed beast of his attained loyalty of 100% but the hidden occupation he wanted to choose demanded the same!

As such, he could act similar to a window-shopper, taking a look at the goods without purchasing them.

This was not a problem for Shane, and he didn't even realize that he had forgotten about the pain that swept through his entire body.

He just thought about his possibly third tamed beast, the hidden occupation, and how strong he might become through the third beast he would have to tame in the near future!

The winged lightning cheetah was an Overlord with an approximated combat prowess at the peak of the Basic dimensions.

This was not surprising, but Shane knew that even Miriam would have problems facing the cheetah because the lightning affinity it had was exceptionally beneficial for it.

Not only was the lightning affinity strong enough to increase the cheetah's speed drastically, whether it was on the ground or air but it was also extremely lethal.

As such, most opponents it had fought couldn't face the cheetah's terrific speed, let alone the lightning's lethality that was employed to further increase the dangers of the cheetah's razor-sharp claws.

Other than that the lightning affinity could be used for long-range attacks.

Shane knew that he had to observe every minute detail because everything could turn into a deadly attack.

Furthermore, he couldn't allow Umbra to fight with him because of his slow pace and defensive capabilities that were too low to defend against the cheetah's onslaught of attacks.

Even Cosmo shouldn't fight by his side and Shane decided that it was best to not allow anyone to leave the Hidden Paradise for now.

If he was in dire need of Cosmo's spatial portals, summoning it later was still possible!

Taking a deep breath before the fight started Shane became extremely calm.

Similar to the cheetah, he was eager to finish off his opponent as quickly as possible.

His body was unable to fight in his peak state for longer than five minutes after all.

Shane had set this time limit for himself and was not sure if he could even take it for so long.

As such with one, at best two clashes the fight should come to an end.

Fortunately, he had the Invincible Scimitar that was underestimated every single time he attacked someone.

In the end, having a [Legendary] quality weapon as beings at the top ranks in the Basic primordial dimensions might not be considered to be special.

However, nobody could have assumed that Shane had a peak [Legendary] quality weapon with cheat-like abilities.

This turned the Invincible Scimitar into a weapon that was almost at par with [Mystic] quality weapons as long as he supplied enough mana into it.

When their battle started, the cheetah enveloped itself in electric currents, amplifying its speed before it shot towards Shane.

It didn't play any tricks and simply advanced with the terrific speed it reached only a moment after the battle had begun.

Shane's eyes widened for a short moment thinking that he had underestimated the cheetah's speed despite having considered several factors beforehand.

He had assumed it to be fast but not to that degree.

Nevertheless, Shane regained his composure within an instant, only to unleash a dense amount of mana and his bloodlust-killing-intent at once.

At the same time, he exerted the [Mana membrane(lesser)] skills, the [Light steps] movement technique, and [Slaughterer's Path] to their fullest extent.

This consumed his entire pool of mana which was not further tragic for Shane.

Transferring a fraction of the mana stored inside his soul bound world towards his mana pool filled it completely.

At that moment, the winged lightning cheetah had already appeared in front of Shane, slashing out with its lightning enveloped claw.

Time was of the essence and the first electric currents were already lunging after Shane as he began to make his move.

He might be slower than the winged lightning cheetah under normal circumstances, but his physical limits had drastically increased during the last few days.

Despite the pain he felt and his skin ripping apart from the pressure weighing on him, Shane couldn't help but smile.

It was simply too exciting to fight against strong opponents with a specific trait that made others believe that they were unparalleled!

This might not certainly be the case, but the cheetah in front of him was definitely amongst the fastest existences inside the basic dimensions!

As such, Shane was fortunate that his strength and the amount of mana he could hold had increased by a large margin owing to the perfect loyalty his tamed beasts had.

Barely lifting his Invincible Scimitar, its flat side collided with the razor-sharp lightning enveloped claws.

Due to the scimitar's conductivity, his hand was singed while the impact flung him several meters in the air almost through the length of the entire arena.

Nevertheless, his grip around the Invincible Scimitar was firm, and instead of remaining idle, Shane released even more mana which he transferred from the Hidden Paradise.

At the same time, the winged lightning cheetah sensed its chance which caused it to pursue Shane, who was still flying through the air.

Its reactions were extremely fast, however, when sudden darkness emerged from Shane, the cheetah's primal instincts caused it to hesitate for a quarter of a second.

Umbra had released his darkness enshroudment which he had sent through the portals he had manifested from the Hidden Paradise.

This moment of hesitation caused by Umbra was more than enough for Cosmo to emerge next to him.

Utilizing the [Space Jump] ability, both Cosmo and Shane appeared above the shocked winged lightning cheetah that wanted to react, only to notice that the Invincible Scimitar had already been brandished at it!

Shane had inserted a tremendous amount of mana inside the Scimitar, allowing it to cut through the cheetah's lightning, fur, skin, flesh, and bones without any resistance!

Despite desperately trying to react, there had only been a single moment it could have moved, which was in fact the moment it had hesitated!
