Chapter 401: Sucked dry

There were groups with four members Shane had divided the large group of 1000 combatants into, which allowed them to fight strong opponents if those were to appear.

Meanwhile, Shane was alone and rushing towards the direction of the construction that manifested the spatial distortion zone.

Infiltrating the shelter had been much easier than Shane had expected it to turn out, and only now did the Destar race realize that something was off.

Out of nowhere more than 1000 brightly glowing red signals in red popped up on the mana radar that showed everything in the surrounding radius spanning around fifty kilometers.

However, what astonished everyone inside the shelter hall was that every single red glowing signal reflected the signals equivalent to a Superior peak-awakened beast, or even stronger!

This was bad, and they were about to send out an emergency signal through the system when they noticed that the system messenger had been temporarily sealed.

Shane had caused this by using one of the 10 temporary system managers seals he had purchased.

Earlier, he hadn't thought much about this item displayed inside the primordial shop, however, after he had witnessed how useful it was as it had prevented him from messaging anyone about Megane's existence this had changed!

An ominous feeling was encroaching the soldiers on the front line of defense inside the shelter hall slowly, and it continued to increase with every passing second.

They had been frozen in place, and only when the first noises of elemental attacks, explosions, and painful cries filled the night sky did they regain their senses.

Unable to use the usual means to contact their superiors, they decided to storm outside the shelter hall to enter the dimension portal in order to request reinforcement.

How could they have expected that a total of 80 Elite combatants in addition to Miriam had already surrounded the Dimension portal, preventing anyone from fleeing?

Meanwhile, the 920 members of the Starlight guild's elite group were slaughtering the soldiers one after another.

Barely two minutes after the conquest had begun, Shane had emerged in front of the construction that caused the Spatial distortion zone.

Summoning Umbra, he destroyed it by making his tamed beast lunge at it with his massive body.

After that Umbra conjured several dozen darkness spears and attacked it just to be sure that it had been destroyed.

Only then did their focus turn towards the Shelter hall that stood near the dimension portal.

The commotion they had caused woke up the shelter's citizens that were unaware of what was going on.

As such, a few of them left their houses to take a look outside, only to see their guard's dead corpses in addition to disguised assassins that disappeared a moment after the guards had been killed.

Conquering and destroying had different requirements, and Shane could only be glad that it was not required to kill the shelter's population in order to conquer a shelter, otherwise, he would have to go against his own principles to complete the [Mythic] mission.

While Shane didn't want to kill innocent citizens, he had no qualms about massacring every single guard because they had been trained to fight and kill others, meaning they had to be fully aware that it was possible for them to die any moment.

Fortunately, the basic requirements to conquer a shelter were only to exert dominance over the dimension portal, destroy the shelter hall, kill or imprison the majority(80%) of guards that defended the shelter, in addition to the Shelter captain and his direct subordinates.

The shelter hall had yet to be destroyed, and Shane assumed that the shelter captain and his direct subordinates were nearby, trying to make sense of what was going on too!

As such, given the fact that Shane was the leader and also the strongest, he took care of the most problematic opponents.

The most difficult during a conquest was to control the panicked citizens who were likely to do something stupid.

Shane didn't want to kill the citizens as it was simply unnecessary, however, if they were to endanger his Starlight guild's elite members, he wouldn't hold back and massacre all of them.

Even if he had to kill thousands, he would put the life of his people over that of the others any day.

Right now, he was only doing the shelter's citizens a favor. If they were to start causing a ruckus, Shane would change his approach completely.

The races he was conquering had attacked the human race's shelters too, and they had barely managed to flee their shelter that had been on the brink of collapse, otherwise, they would have gotten buried under the debris.

It was obvious that the other races hadn't planned this because they didn't have the same capabilities as Shane had, but that did not matter to him.

He had his own principles and his only priority was his Starlight guild members!

Standing in front of the shelter hall, Shane ordered Umbra to tear it apart. The 130 meter long snake followed his instructions in an instant, and Shane could even sense a flicker of excitement radiating from Umbra.

'You're excited to destroy a shelter hall?' He thought with a faint smile emerging on his face.

Suddenly, Shane's senses that were further enhanced by the [Nuir-Earring of sensation] erupted, telling him that something was wrong.

Thus, he instinctively released [Artemis' dome] that formed a protective shell around him as long as he supplied enough mana.

Only a moment later, a barrage of arrows that released a distinct demonic aura pierced into the armor, corroding the dome.

Shane was drained of his mana faster than before and the mana consumption was steadily increasing.

However, instead of panicking, he simply smiled as he released his mask's [Remote use] ability along with using the [Space Jump] ability.

He had relentlessly practiced using the [Space Jump] ability during the last few days in which he had traveled towards the Destar race's shelter.

Because of that, he appeared behind the beings that had attacked him from the shadows, only to erupt with a large amount of mana and the bloodlust-killing intent that enveloped the small group of archers in an instant.

"So, that's how the new Shelter captain and his subordinates are protecting their shelter? Interesting, but unfortunately not even close to strong enough!"

He had already altered his voice and nobody was able to perceive what kind of being he was.

Even if the shelter captain and his direct subordinates were able to notice that he was a human, it was not like they would survive long enough to tell anyone about it!

The moment he thought about killing them, he manifested the Invincible Scimitar, only to notice that Umbra had lost himself in rage because Shane had been attacked despite him being around to act as a shield.

As such, before Shane could even kill his opponents, or ask any questions, Umbra had emerged behind them, lifting them off the ground as he took their whole bodies into his mouth to crunch them into a pulp of flesh.

Shane simply looked at his tamed beast with a dazed look. Thus, he only shook his head before he picked up the lightly glowing spatial rings before he stored them away.

In the end, not even three hours passed before the shelter had been completely conquered, as Shane received the first out of ten required notifications.

[Shelter of the 'Destar' race inside the 'radiant mountain ring'- dimension had been conquered.

System evaluation of the shelter's defensive capabilities- Strong enough to survive the beast-tide with 5 Overlords!

Valid conquered shelter! Congratulations to the host on his first conquered shelter!]

Shane read through the notification, but he couldn't help and squint his eyes.

'Is the system also starting to change? Already??'

The system notification was different compared to how it had been before and despite having received a warning, Shane couldn't help but feel that it was too fast.

If the system were to malfunction now, he would be unable to finish everything he had wanted to do.

Nevertheless, he couldn't rush even more than he was already doing.

Instead, Shane had to calm down which made him look at the [Mythic] mission's progress.

[Mission progress [1/10]!]

This was more calming than Shane had expected, but instead of wasting more time, he called out every single member of the Astral Starlight faction who was free.

Shane did so because he wanted to plunder the goods every soldier had, the goods inside the shelter's warehouse, barracks, the Destar race's shops that belonged to the government, and the massive number of weapons on the shelter walls!

The Destar race's reinforcements would take a while to reach the shelter, and Shane felt like the government had yet to pay for their arrogant behavior towards the human race.

Thus, he sucked them dry, while the citizens remained much calmer than he had expected.

There were only a few that had tried to act heroic, only to be beheaded in the blink of an eye.

A total of five hours had passed before all of his people safely returned to the Hidden Paradise, where the spoils of their short battle were sorted and stored away in the warehouses.

During the next three months, the plundered goods would be stored before slowly selling everything because other races might realise that their unique weapons were being sold somewhere just a few days after they had been stolen.

This would bring unwanted attention and Shane preferred infiltrating and conquering a shelter quietly without causing too much commotion, let alone casualties.

Among the Conquerors, which was what he had decided to call the elite unit of his Starlight guild, nobody died which was exactly what Shane had planned to achieve.

Under ordinary circumstances, shelters didn't have many individuals with a mana purity above [90%] in their ranks, let alone such members acting as ordinary soldiers.

Because of that, only the Shelter captain, his subordinates, and Cultivators that were coincidentally in the shelter could become a nuisance.

Other than those, there was another problem Shane had to figure out a solution to!
