Even if the King serpents knew that Shane was extremely fast because he had been able to steal their egg, they hadn't realised that he, in fact, had a spatial affinity.
After he had manifested the first spatial portal, Shane activated the [Space Jump] ability in order to move further away.
At the same time, he used the flippers as well as his entire physical strength to put as much distance as possible between himself and the King serpents.
Yet, after the fourth jump through the spatial portal, he looked around in order to see whether he was in pursuit, or Umbra and Viridy were being chased by the serpents.
