As comfortable as this situation was, Lyn realized how much time has passed since she laid down.

"I'm really sorry about this your legs must hurt." Lyn apologized.

Allen shook his head, "Just stay still; this is the first time you've gotten drunk. The effects won't wear off for a while."

A soft wind blew again, and Lyn noticed the difference. She vaguely made out the fan.

"It's refreshing," Lyn commented.

"I'm glad the doctor also told me you had a bit of a fever."

A fever? Maybe she's overworked, or perhaps it's because she has slept little lately. But doctor? It must have been when she passed out. When she woke up, she was already in this situation with Allen.

She closed her eyes and leaned onto him.

The dizziness gradually faded but since it remained, she knew better than to sit up. She wonders if Allen doesn't think much of this situation. In other people's eyes, the two of them look very intimate. But for him? Lyn opened her eyes and saw his side profile. His usual calm demeanor, and indifferent look on his face. Throughout the years the two of them slowly got used to each other's company. At the start when their families made them see each other, it still felt awkward to her. It was the first time in her life that she interacted with others who aren't her occasional visitors.

For Lyn, the man named Allen acted as her salvation. He's the one who told her about the world outside. He would often bring her gifts and show her many paintings. But despite all this, Allen never brought her out much. Only Kazuya dare take that risk.

Allen is her fiance, so everything they've done. Does he report it back to her mother? Maybe this is why she easily felt comfortable with Kazuya. Because she knew Kazuya isn't one of Mother's people. Lyn shook her head; there is no use thinking things like that. Allen treats her very well. She felt his kindness every time he comes to see her.

"You must rest."

"Allen."

"I do not know what is disturbing your mind. But if you do not get sufficient sleep and food. You cannot function."

But the times she meets Kazuya since the opening day has decreased. Perhaps that's brother's punishment for him, but she does not see him as often as she did before. There is a long gap before the next meeting. She felt lonely. In the past even though she was alone, Lyn never felt this way before. Perhaps it's because she didn't know the warmth of others until she met Kazuya.

"Allen, can I ask you for a favor?"

"What is it?"

"I want to go somewhere with you."

"Outside the castle?"

Lyn nodded, and she saw a hesitated look appear on his face. Ah, she knew it. Allen communicated with Mother. The reason why they keep her locked up, the dangers of this mark. Allen he— her thoughts broke off when Allen nodded.

Ehhh?

"Very well."

Lyn's eyes widened, "Really?"

"My dear, you've been good lately. So I'll treat you. Where would you like to go?" Allen asked her; his tone switched to a soft and friendly one. A tone that's unlike him. She looked up at him in disbelief, is this okay? Just like that? Or rather good? Lately, her actions cause her family trouble.

Maybe there's some sort of catch here? As she thought that she noticed Allen's gaze on hers, why does he keep looking at her? Since he came here, he does that a lot. Just look at her. Whenever Lyn questioned him, he would reply calmly with the words 'It was a coincidence.'

A coincidence, huh? But he's looking at her with such a serious gaze. Lyn's cheeks heated up, is her hair okay? Ah, she looked like a muddled mess. She probably doesn't look very nice right now.

Then again, does Allen care about appearance? Despite her dressing up in plain clothes. Lyn ensured that she looked her best whenever they met, today's surprise banquet was no exception.

"Lyn, can you sit up for a while? I have something I want to give you."

Eh?

...

Allen returned with a beautiful looking box in his hands. Lyn looked at it confused. Is it jewelry?

"Can I really open this?" Lyn asked.

Allen nodded, "It's for you."

Hesitantly Lyn removed the lid, and she saw a comb on a red velvet cushion. The comb decorated with various red flowers, and diamonds of different shades. Her eyes brightened as she picked up the comb, "It's beautiful."

Is it okay for her to have this? Lyn didn't get a chance to question him since Allen took the comb from her hands and slipped it on to her hair.

"It looks good on you Lyn."

Her cheeks turned red at his words, a simple compliment but it made her very happy.

"This comb is a family heirloom. It's a sign you're my wife."

When she heard this explanation, Lyn hesitated.

"Do not worry; you are free to return it."

Lyn was unsure if she had misheard Allen. Was he actually giving her a choice? But if Allen was, why then, did he do all this? What did he have to gain if she could choose not to marry him in the first place?

It never crossed her mind to cancel the engagement with him. No matter what happened. Lyn already prepared herself to become his wife. But now hearing him say she had the choice, Lyn didn't know what to feel. Is he trying to get rid of her?

As these questions ran through her mind, she noticed him looking at her again. She's glad he's looking, at least that's what she thought initially. But something is wrong here. He's looking at her but not really looking.

His gaze is on her, but is Allen really looking at her? Lyn could tell. Something is amiss. Whenever he looked at her, why does his gaze seem so empty? Why does he seem so sad?

Unconsciously, Lyn felt herself getting closer to him.

Before she knew it, Lyn had her hands on his cheeks, "Lyn?"

"Look at me. Look at me properly. Don't avert your gaze from me!"

She knew she sounded unreasonable and odd. Look at her? They may be engaged, but they don't have to be close to each other. He's not obliged to do as she tells him.

After a few minutes though, Allen spoke up, "I'm looking." Allen said.

Lyn scanned his expression again and happily nodded as she confirmed his words.

"Good."

"If you feel a bit better now, shall we take a stroll?" Allen asked.

Her eyes lit up at the thought of going on a pleasant walk with the weather like this, "Yes, let's go!"
