Chapter 66 The Birth of Two Heroes

Coastal Avenue, Harbor Area, Dunerk. Baron Mirro’s face was sullen as if his parents just died. He was standing with his bent-waist in the middle of the mess. Several heavy-armored knights faithfully stood guard next to him, one magician wearing a black cloak with several mysterious hexagon patterns embroidered on his sleeves even stood at one side.

Countless torches illuminated this part of Coastal Avenue. The flesh of the four Dark Spirit Horses that exploded to bits were scattered within the radius of one hundred meters. Snow and blood mixed together and already become red blood ice under the assault of the cold wind. The carriage was burned to ashes. The black ashes and some remaining charcoals were also scattered randomly on the ground. Black, red, and white were mixed together, giving off the feeling of inside a slaughterhouse.

The corpse of Ya and Ling’s middle-aged bodyguard laid on the ground. The upper half of his body nearly exploded to pieces while his two legs were trampled recklessly by the thugs hired by Black Tiger Family. His leg bones were broken, showing a strange angle.

The black man who rescued Ya and Ling from Baltic’s hands laid on the seawall. There was a hole as big as a goose egg on his temple, clearly pierced by some kind of powerful arrow and died. What made people even more flabbergasted was his arms that flew dozens of meters, one to the left and one to the right. The bulky arms stuck in the snow, slanting towards the sky like tombstones.

Except for this black warrior laying on the seawall, there were also a row of seven disfigured corpses that were nearly burned to ashes, firmly blocking the mouth of an alley. These seven corpses were like melted colored glass; showing seven beautiful colors. After being burned into this, they still firmly stayed there. A dignified and baleful aura that scare people from approaching filled the air around them, adding some killing intent to the whistling cold wind.

Baron Mirro covered his nose using a white handkerchief. His left hand held onto a walking stick as he raged in a flustered manner.

The new year was coming soon and when the spring arrived and the flowers bloomed, he could retire from his position as the Mayor of Dunerk. He could then brought his wife, children, and grandchildren to return to Black Stone City to enjoy his retirement. Bringing all the profits he had raked in during the period he had served as Mayor of Dunerk, not to mention his late years would be spent freely and luxuriously, his children, grandchildren, even great-grandchildren could peacefully and luxuriously enjoy their lives.

As long as he endured for three more months, he could return to his hometown and peacefully enjoy his retirement!

However, now, with only three months left, why must such wicked incident happen so suddenly? With so many people dying and such a big commotion happening, he couldn’t conceal it even if he wanted to. After all, the huge explosion was heard by the hundreds of thousands residents of Dunek.

The bureaucrats of Yasen Province would definitely dispatch some of their high officials to investigate tonight’s event, criticize him left and right, and easily interfere with Dunerk’s municipal administration. They may even inspect Dunerk’s tax and administration account books of the last several years.

Naturally, Baron Mirro wasn’t afraid of them inspecting the account books. He was afraid that to keep those damned investigators’ mouths shut, he would have to pay a high price – maybe the money for his future great-grandsons’ purebred horses or his future great-granddaughters’ jeweled necklaces would sprout wings and fly off just like that! If he bumped into a fellow as greedy as himself, perhaps the damage caused would be even bigger!

“Who can tell me what actually happened here!” Baron Mirro angrily raised his walking stick and started to wave it strongly. The walking stick carved from ivory firmly beat a lamp post next to him with a ‘pa-pa’ sound. He also couldn’t help but feel heartache.

A group of fully-armed imperial soldiers escorted a silver-armored middle-aged man with a tall stature and magnificent appearance. This was the commanding officer of Dunerk’s defensive garrison, the permanent commander of Dunerk’s thousand-man army, ‘Lieutenant Colonel Snow Wolf’ Walter.

Looking at Baron Mirro’s hysterical actions, Snow Wolf Walter folded his hands in front of his chest in worry and looked at the mess of disheveled corpses with a frown. What actually happened? Who attacked these people? Then where did they go?

Those murdering ruffians, could it be that they already took advantage of the night to sneak into Dunerk’s downtown area? If this was true, if more commoners were attacked, Walter’s responsibility would be huge! Thinking of the cold and heartless faces those executioners of the Imperial Military Department’s Martial Law Bureau, Walter couldn’t help but shudder.

When Walter was lost in thought and Baron Mirro was roaring in anger, Blackbeard stumbled out of a small black alley while carrying Lin Qi in his arms. While walking, Blackbeard howled emotionally, “Sir, sir, lieutenant colonel, where are your barrack’s military doctors? Please save my son, Lin Qi, this stupid boy, how could he fight to the death with those cruel beastmen?”

Blackbeard’s saliva mixed with his mucus as his tears continuously streamed from his red and swollen eyes. He wailed in grief, “There’s also Enzo, this brave young man, for the sake of protecting this stupid son of mine, he actually fought to the death with a maddened beastman! For goodness sake, quickly save them!”

Blackbeard’s mucus and tears were splattering everywhere, thoroughly playing out an image of a brokenhearted and worried father. His slippers were already gone so his bare feet were stepping on the filthy snow just like that. His brocaded pajamas worth several hundred gold coins had long already been dirtied with blood and sewage; it undoubtedly couldn’t be worn again even if it was washed clean.

Behind Blackbeard, several family thugs wearing Dunerk militiamen uniforms ran over while carrying Enzo. They had blood all over their bodies while their chests and backs had sword wounds like that of ‘heroic warriors’. They howled in pain like Blackbeard, continuously requesting for military doctors to quickly come and rescue their young master’s good friend, good partner, good brother, good comrade!

Countless torches brightly illuminated the port area. One thousand defensive army, several hundred Dragon Cavalry and copper hats, also countless militiamen who were rushing over, they all gathered here. Under the illumination of the bright torches, Blackbeard stumbled and fell on the ground. He kneeled on the ground as his powerful hands propped the ‘weak’ body of the ‘unconscious’ Lin Qi.

Cries of alarm sounded from all around. There were over twenty disordered sword wounds on Lin Qi’s body. His expensive clothes were already damaged so bad it looked like a fishing net. His flesh was cut open like a child’s mouth, exposing red muscles underneath. Cold wind blew snow over and Lin Qi’s flesh immediately turned white.

Lin Qi twitched in pain, as if he still feel the extreme pain of his body though he was unconscious!

“Military doctors, quickly come and save them!” Lieutenant Colonel Walter turned pale with fright, yet he was also ecstatic; the clues had arrived!

Listen, Lin Qi fought against the beastmen? Then this time it was the beastmen who invaded and started the fight, there was no doubt about it!

Blackbeard’s unpleasant weeping sound once again resounded throughout the whole harbor.
