Prologue to the Revival of the Capital

————————————

A week had passed since the invasion of the royal capital. We continued to devote ourselves wholeheartedly to the reconstruction of the capital.

Initially, when we invaded the capital, we thought it would take at least three years to rebuild, even with the help of reinforcements from the imperial capital and employing a strategy of overwhelming numbers. However, the support we expected from the empire turned out to be nonexistent, forcing us to reconsider our initial plans. Just thinking about what needed to be done brought dozens of tasks to mind, and we prioritized them, tackling what we could.

However, on the third day of providing relief aid, something changed. The citizens of the capital volunteered to take care of the relief efforts themselves. It was truly a blessing. We only had to transport the provisions, and the elderly women who gathered took it upon themselves to plan the menus and cook the meals. Moreover, they quickly organized themselves into shifts and assigned roles with astonishing efficiency.

Immediately, we turned our attention to another task: the disposal of the countless corpses left in the capital.

For the time being, we managed to suppress the odor and decay using the fairy dragons’ scales. However, it was only a temporary solution, as it became evident that decay and odor would inevitably arise as time passed. It was Mei who came up with a solution. She used a carnivorous plant called Corasane, which wrapped its tendrils around the bodies of creatures and absorbed nutrients like a demonic plant.

We heard that these plants grew deep in the mountains of the Niza Principality, so Mei and I rode on Illymo after teleporting to the principality. As soon as we entered the mountains, we quickly found the plants, enclosed them in a barrier, and brought them back to the capital.

First, we planted Corasane in the farmland where the corpses were left. Mei applied some kind of medicine, and the plant’s roots immediately spread, rapidly covering the bodies with its tendrils. It seemed to be a drug that explosively accelerated growth, although it had the drawback of withering quickly. However, it was a perfect remedy for this environment. To avoid damage to residential areas, we erected a barrier over the entire farmland and observed the situation. Overnight, it transformed into a splendid flower field.

The fairies dragons quickly devoured the bloomed flowers. They commented that they had a rich and profound taste, but I couldn’t quite understand it.

After another night, the Corasane had withered completely. Upon seeing this, we gathered the bodies of the Lamaron soldiers and planted Corasane on them. Two days later, only their armor, helmets, and swords remained. We took some of them for ourselves, but since the majority of the leftover armor and helmets were no better than scrap metal, I announced that the citizens of the capital could take them if they had any use for them. In the end, all of their armor and helmets were gone within a day, not only being used for the city gates but also repurposed for the defense of the capital and its inhabitants, including their residences, shops, and even carriages.

Simultaneously, Mei conducted research on the golden birds. Despite their continuous loud cries within the barrier, she paid no attention to them and immediately began dissecting the captured birds. Without being bothered by the rotting meat, she focused on studying the birds.

After an hour of waiting, Mei, with a smile, turned to me.

“Master! These are extremely rare specimens! With the sauna wasp circulating within their bodies, the Sharinaos phenomenon is more likely to occur! I see. This is well done. So, if we can successfully create a Link Cage… or maybe an Inwatt would work too… It’s possible!” (T/N: No idea just went with what was translated)

“Ah… I see. I get the gist… Yeah, I understand. I’ll leave the golden birds to you.”

“Yes!”

Mei responded with an incredibly joyful smile. There was a slight hint of unease, but probably, most likely, it would be fine.

Afterward, Mei fed the golden birds and embarked on what can be described as wandering or exploring Lunoa Forest. In order to properly care for the golden birds, she believed it was necessary to understand their ecology in more detail. Since there were protective barriers in place and their locations could be confirmed on the map, there was no need to worry. She would surely return in time for dinner.

With the concern of food supply alleviated and the overwhelming number of corpses disposed of, the royal capital was rapidly regaining its liveliness. Although the city mainly consisted of elderly people, children, and women, everyone was taking action to rebuild the city.

The elderly, in particular, were full of energy. Grandfathers enthusiastically engaged in carpentry work, claiming their past experiences were useful. Mei’s investigation revealed no issues with the farmland, so they immediately began planting seeds and watering from the wells.

Surprisingly, there were also many young women who were thought to have been trampled by the Lamaron soldiers. It turned out they had been hiding in attics and warehouses, surviving the immediate crisis. If our arrival had been further delayed, the tragedy could have been even worse.

The protection of the royal capital was primarily entrusted to Kunogen and his group, and so far, no major problems had occurred. They dressed like adventurers without any trace of being armed, which made them readily accepted by the capital’s residents. Most of them were originally second or third sons of the empire and, in general, handsome. As a result, they received positive attention from women, and there were rumors that some young women were already making lunchboxes for them. Well, if love can blossom, it’s a good thing, so for now, we observed silently.

Speaking of women, the issue of the women affected by Lamaron’s rampage was quite serious. Women who had been abducted from nearby villages and towns had already suffered harm, and it wasn’t a problem that could be easily solved. Even Mei didn’t have a method to address this issue, and it seemed like it would become an insurmountable obstacle.

However, it was Pousehai’s group who came to the rescue.

I ordered support from them, known as the “Black Physicians” and renowned in Krumfrl, and they brought in four skilled physicians through teleportation. While entrusting them with the health management of the capital’s residents, we consulted them about the women’s situation. They informed us that it was possible to erase memories using fairy dragon scales.

I immediately consulted Sadakichi, who explained that it wouldn’t work unless it was a higher-ranked species like a fairy. So I approached Fairy, and although she was hesitant, she agreed to give it a try.

I promptly teleported the women to the mansion and gathered them in the garden. Then, I enclosed Fairy and the women within a barrier. There was quite a commotion inside the barrier, as some women were unable to move or were in a state of confusion. Amidst the chaos, Fairy fluttered above them.

Fairy flew around for a while, then suddenly emitted a dazzling light from her body. The gentle light enveloped the women. When the light subsided, the women had fainted and the figure of Fairy.

“Hey, Fairy! Pull yourself together!”

“Ugh…”

Upon closer inspection, the wings are tattered and worn out. Without hesitation, I immediately cast Ultimate Heal on Fairy and began repairing her wings.

“Don’t push yourself too hard!”

“I accidentally exerted too much power while trying to create the exact powder I had in mind…”

“But still, Fairy deserves praise for working so hard!”

I scoop Fairy up and gently stroke her head.

“Hehe…”

Fairy smiles happily, her smile truly comforting. She must be quite a beautiful girl if she were human.

The women slept for an entire day. When they woke up, most of them had completely forgotten their memories of the Lamaron soldiers. However, some women were in a state of confusion or complete mental breakdown, not even remembering their own names—a state of amnesia. Fairly was quite distraught, but she couldn’t be blamed. It seemed that the women who had lost their memories were all alone in the world, with their families killed by the Lamaron or similar reasons. These young women had no choice but to start a new life in the capital.

By the way, I didn’t learn that all the women who had suffered from the Lamaron soldiers had been restored to their original age thanks to my Extra Heal until much later.

Currently, each person is fully occupied with reclaiming their respective lives. I show up in the capital every day, absorbing issues, contemplating solutions, and putting them into action. Rico, Peyris, Ferris, and Luala also take turns assisting me with my work and supporting the people of the capital. It’s truly appreciated.

However, above all, I can rely on the resilience of the people of the capital. Everyone gathers voluntarily, discusses the issues, and solves them on the spot. The fact that there are still few requests or demands is also thanks to that.

This exchange in the capital will create scenes and events in the future that I could never have imagined, astonishing the entire world. But at the moment, I had no way of knowing that.
