Chapter 157

I’ve been experiencing sleepless nights recently. After having lunch, I frequently find myself attacked by intense drowsiness. In retrospect, this might have been the most critical moment for the Kingdom of Agarta. Not only was Rico absent, but I myself was also in a daze.

Naturally, I couldn’t show such an embarrassing state in front of my subordinates and the people of the city. When someone came to visit, I would put on a brave face and pretend to be deeply engrossed in contemplating something difficult while actually dozing off. In my previous life, I became adept at feigning sleep due to the sleepless nights I endured on the job. That experience has proven useful in this world as well.

The cause of my sleep deprivation, needless to say, is Eril. She cries so much that it could rival the previous generation. That’s what makes it so bothersome. Being awakened in the middle of the night, Rico is even more sleep-deprived than I am.

Even though both of us, as parents, suffer from lack of sleep, Eril drinks milk well, cries loudly, and then falls into a deep sleep. She will surely grow up to be a spirited woman.

Since our daughter was born, we’ve made some surprising discoveries. Rico’s breasts have become larger. It seems that this is a common occurrence after childbirth, with a well-defined cleavage. However, due to the abundance of milk, if she’s not careful, her breasts become covered in breast milk. Rico is also struggling with this.

The biggest surprise of all is that Eril seems to be attached to Matokal. When she refuses to stop crying at night, Matokal carries her. No matter how bad her mood is, when she’s held by Matokal, she falls asleep soundly. Lately, Matokal has been sleeping with Rico, so her sleep deprivation is finally starting to improve.

We all help each other joyfully with tasks such as burping after feeding, changing diapers, giving baths, and changing clothes. Naturally, as a father, I’m also providing assistance.

On that day, at the end of February, it was a holiday. While comforting Eril, who was crying more than usual, we all had our meal together. After drinking Rico’s milk and getting full, when Eril finally fell asleep, we finished our meal in the dining room and relaxed at our leisure. It was at that moment that we heard a voice in the dining room.

“Sister Mei…?”

I looked and saw Mei standing in front of the door leading to the backyard cottage. As I approached her, I noticed that her feet were wet.

“Could it be that Sister Mei also had an accident…?”

Ferris blurted out unintentionally.

“You idiot! It’s her water breaking! Call Roni! Hurry!”

I shouted loudly, giving instructions, and brought Mei to the delivery room while holding a cloth against her. We laid a cloth on the bed and gently laid Mei down on it.

“Master… Don’t worry. It’s not yet the due date.”

“Well, if the water broke, she has to give birth. Let’s have Roni take a look.”

“Yes…”

I held Mei’s hand tightly until Roni arrived.

When Roni arrived, she immediately attended to Mei. Of course, I was asked to leave the room, and instead, Luala and Peyris were called in. After a while, Roni came out of the room.

“I have just checked. It was her water breaking. It seems like labor pains have started a bit. She will give birth like this.”

“Roni, it’s still before the due date. Is everything alright?”

“It’s fine. There are still about two weeks until the due date, so there shouldn’t be any problems.”

“I see. I’ll leave it to you. Please take care.”

Roni straightened her back and bowed, then went back into the room.

Mei’s delivery went smoothly. She gave birth two hours after her water broke. Considering Rico’s case, we had prepared comprehensive measures expecting the birth to occur late at night. It was during this time that Roni suddenly appeared, making us anxious, as if something bad had happened.

“Ro…Roni… What happened?”

Roni stood up straight with a serious expression, surveying our faces in the dining room.

“Hey… Roni?”

Upon hearing that voice, Roni’s face broke into a smile.

“Congratulations. She has been born safely. It’s a beautiful baby girl. Mei is also doing well.”

“Yayyyyy!”

We all high-fived each other and shared the joy. In the midst of it, Rico, who was holding Eril, nudged my arm.

“Linos, please go to Mei.”

“Oh, right. I’ll go.”

Guided by Roni, I made my way to Mei.

She was a girl who closely resembled Mei, a sheep demi-human. She had cute sheep horns on her head, and there were already neat patches of sheep’s wool growing on her head. She was crying with a whimpering sound, and even her cry was adorable. (T/N: I’m curious now, Don’t the horns hit the edge of the vagina as the baby comes out?!)

“Mei, well done. Thank you.”

“… “

Mei kept a happy expression on her face while shedding tears.

“It was a very easy delivery, much easier compared to Lady Rico’s time.”

Luala informed me with a smile. I returned her smile while holding the child.

“Is she smaller compared to Eril?”

“Yes. Since the birth was early, she’s a bit small, but there are no health issues. However, I would like to keep monitoring her progress.”

“I see. Please do so. Thank you, Roni. Both of my daughters have been in your care. I’ll rely on you from now on as well.”

“Yes. I will do my best until Lady Mei is able to move on her own.”

Roni spoke with her usual resolute demeanor, giving me reassuring words.

“Master… Would you please decide on this child’s name?”

Mei opened her mouth with a smile.

“Well, then. This child will surely become an adorable girl. We should give her a cute name.”

As I said that, I appraised the baby. It showed “Education LV1.”

“This child might grow up to be as intelligent as Mei.”

With those words, I handed the baby back to Mei. She had a very happy expression as she gazed at her child’s face.

That evening, we had a feast, as expected. Mei was accompanied by Rico and Peyris, as it was deemed inappropriate to have her indulge in the feast. Rico prepared sandwiches and ohagi, and Fairi flew behind her carrying them.

When it comes to feasts in our household, it always involves meat. I took charge of the kitchen, preparing cutlets and fried chicken using dragon meat and golden bird meat. Then, I marinated the salmon-like fish that was delivered from Krumfar and made it into a salad. Additionally, using an ingredient called Remurika, which had a garlic flavor, I made garlic rice. If I do say so myself, I was able to cook everything exceptionally well, and it received high praise.

Furthermore, for dessert, I had meticulously made a cake with the ideas Peyris and I had been nurturing. I thought it would be too much to eat, but it seemed that women have separate stomachs, as they managed to finish it despite being full. Particularly, Roni was unabashedly devouring it. I jokingly asked her if she didn’t care about dieting, but she surprisingly had extensive knowledge about it.

“As long as you don’t overindulge, there’s no problem. Some nobles, for example, starve themselves in an attempt to lose weight, but that’s counterproductive. It depends on the individual’s constitution, but gaining weight often occurs due to an imbalanced diet or lack of exercise. Also, some people gain weight due to emotional factors.”

It was quite an interesting conversation. It reminded me of my mother in my previous life, who always failed at dieting. Although, once she turned sixty, she decided to stop dieting in a manly fashion.

“Dieting is bad for your body. It only accumulates stress!”

Those words are still deeply ingrained in my mind.

“If you think you’re no good and need to lose weight, your chances of success will be low. Thinking that you’re fat and need to lose weight actually makes it harder to lose weight. People tend to avoid unpleasant things, so they end up eating more. Instead, accepting yourself as you are right now and thinking it’s okay, but trying to eat a little better, will naturally lead to weight loss. Oh, are there any more fried chicken left? Is there?… Sorry.”

Roni spoke while eating fried chicken, and she was quite manly. The girls, led by Luala, were captivated by her words. Observing them, I spoke up.

“Everyone, you’re not that fat, you know? I actually think you could be a little plumper.”

For some reason, I received contemptuous glares from all the girls. That night, I had a strange feeling that the girls in the dining room were somewhat distant toward me. But I decided to convince myself that it was just my imagination. It’s okay, surely it’s just my imagination…

T/N: I double checked and there was no mention of the child’s name yet.
