Chapter 174: Research Presentation

The cathedral in the capital of Crimeana Holy Kingdom, Aphrodite, was filled to capacity with people. The Pope and all the cardinals were present, creating a solemn atmosphere. In front of them, two men and one woman sat quietly.

It was an extraordinary meeting of the Cardinals, convened whenever an event, disaster, invention, or discovery with potential impact on Crimeana Holy Kingdom or the world occurred. It had been held for the first time in several years since the destruction of Juka Kingdom by the Great Demon Lord. While the previous meeting had been closed to the public, this time it was open to the people of Aphrodite, attracting their high interest and attention.

“Let us begin,” the Pope said, and the cathedral fell silent. Then, one man stood up slowly and began to speak.

“I am Imani, the director of Crimeana Medical Research Institute. We are filled with joy to have been given this opportunity. We requested the convening of this extraordinary meeting of the Cardinals to report that our researchers have discovered the causes and specific remedies for the difficult diseases that have plagued our human race for thousands of years: Kirisrei, Gaisha, and Luroans.”

In response to his words, the two individuals who had been seated also stood up.

“I am Darina, the Vice Director of our institute, and this is Clarina, the researcher who discovered the specific remedies.”

They both bowed respectfully.

Imani continued to speak with an unwavering and refreshing tone, her intelligent face reflecting her expertise as a medical researcher. She was hailed as a genius since the founding of the kingdom and had saved numerous human lives through the development of various medicines and techniques. Among them, she was highly regarded as a specialist in human regeneration.

While normally, missing parts of the human body could only be regenerated with LV4 healing magic, Imani discovered that by combining magic and medicine, it was possible for LV3 healing magic to produce the same effects.

Due to her gentle and reliable personality, she was highly respected by all the researchers.

On the other hand, Vice Director Darina was a man with a determined expression, to put it simply. In reality, he was a seasoned researcher who had experienced numerous failures and challenges, ultimately achieving success. His profound experiences supported Imani’s research greatly, and he could be considered Imani’s right-hand man.

As the only woman, Clarina stood out. Compared to Imani and Darina, who were already reaching middle age, she looked significantly younger. And indeed, while Imani was fifty years old and Darina was forty-eight, Clarina was merely twenty-six years old. This young researcher had made a discovery that could potentially impact the entire world. The people in the cathedral were astonished by this fact.

Moreover, Clarina’s appearance also caught people’s attention. Despite a slight hunch, her eyes, with few blinks and moist black irises, exuded overflowing intelligence, and her slightly pale complexion, untouched by the sun, brought to mind her devoted research both day and night. Her petite, slender figure, and most notably, she was the only one among Imani and Darina who was wearing a white gown while the priests were clad in their ceremonial garments.

“Now, I will present the causes of these diseases and their specific remedies,” Clarina spoke slowly.

“Our research has revealed that the causes of Kirisrei, Gaisha, and Luroans are common, and they are all transmitted through the bodily fluids of beastfolk,” she continued.

The cathedral trembled with the murmurs of the crowd, vibrating in response to their excitement.

“Please be quiet,” the Pope raised his right hand, urging for silence. The previous cheers were instantly silenced.

“To be more specific, the so-called sleeping sickness, Kirisrei, is caused by the bodily fluids of canine beastfolk. Gaisha, which progresses with muscular rigidity, is transmitted through the bodily fluids of wolf beastfolk. Lastly, Luroans, which leads to sudden death, is caused by the bodily fluids of feline beastfolk,” Clarina explained.

The cathedral erupted once again with cheers and applause. The Pope and the cardinals remained still, gazing at them. The Pope closed his eyes, lost in thought for a moment, and then slowly spoke when the audience calmed down.

“I see. And how is this specific remedy made?”

“Yes. We believed that these diseases occurred due to the lack of antibodies in humans against them. Therefore, we investigated the strongest antibodies against these diseases in various beings and found that the antibodies of sheep beastfolk were the most potent. Additionally, we discovered that these antibodies are produced in their livers. By adding the acid I developed in a certain amount to the bile produced in the liver, Kirisrei can be completely cured, Gaisha’s symptoms can be halted, and Luroans’s onset can be prevented,” Clarina explained.

The cathedral fell into silence once again. Everyone present found it hard to believe the results. Eventually, someone in the audience timidly clapped their hands, triggering a wave of thunderous applause.

The Pope waited for the applause to subside before speaking again.

“Miss Clarina’s explanation is clear. Do you have any evidence to support these findings?”

In response to his words, Imani, the director, spoke up.

“Miss Clarina has past achievements in my research, where she discovered that adding a small amount of salt to human regeneration fluid enhances its effects. She is a prodigy who reads a hundred research materials in a day and devotes herself tirelessly to her studies. I, as well as Vice Director Darina, can attest that this research result is a groundbreaking discovery that will save our human race.”

Darina nodded in agreement. The Pope closed his eyes, lost in thought for a moment, before slowly opening his eyes and speaking.

“If Director Imani speaks with such conviction, then it must be true. Understood. From now on, our Crimeana Holy Kingdom and Crimeana Church will ban any contact with canine, wolf, and feline beastfolk. They are to be expelled from this capital immediately. As for the sheep beastfolk… we will detain them. Capture any sheep beastfolk present in the capital at once. For those in other regions, arrange for their transportation to Aphrodite.”

The Pope descended from the stage, walking down the stairs. When he reached Imani and the others, he clasped each of their hands with both of his.

“All three of you have done well. With this, the human race will be saved.”

“You are too kind…” they replied, their eyes filled with tears and choked with emotion.

That night, the Pope was reading through the documents piled up on his desk in his office when a thought suddenly crossed his mind.

“Come to think of it… didn’t King Agarta have a sheep beastfolk wife? This might be a good opportunity to determine whether his kingdom will follow the divine path or rebel…”

He muttered to himself without addressing anyone. While his face maintained a gentle smile, a shrewd glint gleamed in his eyes.
