Chapter 180: Apostle of God or Great Villain?

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

After leaving the city of Galby, I didn’t return to my mansion but teleported to the city of Agarta. I entered my office and closed my eyes, lost in thought.

“It’s going to be an all-out war with the followers of the Crimeana religion. But before that, I must find a way to retrieve Mei at all costs. If I storm the church with all my might, I could easily rescue her. However, that would make me an enemy to all the Crimeana followers around the world. It’s not just about me; it would put the Emperor, the Dwarven King of Niza, and General Carius of Lamaron in jeopardy as well. I need some time before confronting them… How can I create that time?” I pondered while looking at Agarta’s city covered by the night’s veil.

“…Sadakichi.”

“Did you call for me?”

As I opened the window and sent telepathic messages, Sadakichi appeared promptly. As expected of the leader of the Fairy Dragons, always swift.

“Keep watch over the port of Galby and its surroundings. If you see any ships approaching, let me know immediately. Also, if you spot any Beastkin coming out of a large, reddish-brown building near the port where the ships enter and leave, inform me right away.”

“As you command.”

With those words, Sadakichi vanished.

“Let’s see the depth of Crimeana’s faith,” I said with a sneer, and then I teleported to the mansion in the imperial capital.

“I’m back.”

“Linus! What about Mei?”

“I found her. I couldn’t see her, but she’s almost certainly inside the church in Galby.”

“Why didn’t you rescue her?”

“If I intervene now, it will most likely lead to an all-out war with Crimeana. I need to be prepared before confronting them. I must buy some time.”

“Then… what about Mei?”

“Don’t worry, Rico. I’ll definitely bring her back. If the Crimeana followers are as devout as they claim, I will be able to retrieve her.”

“But what if their faith isn’t strong enough…”

“If that happens… I’ll take her back by force. Don’t worry.”

“Linus, do you have another plan?”

“You’re sharp, Mat. I’d rather not reveal the plan right now. The fewer people who know the details, the better. But if I need your help to execute the plan, I’ll tell you, preferably in a secluded place.”

For some reason, Mat’s eyes began to swim, and her face turned slightly red.

“What’s wrong, Mat? Your face is red.”

“It’s nothing.”

“For now, Mei is being held in captivity at the church in Galby. They will probably treat her well until they return to their country by ship. She’s protected by a barrier, so we don’t need to worry about that. The real battle will begin when Crimeana’s rescue ship arrives. We must make them believe that going up against us will be troublesome. I will definitely bring Mei back, and I won’t let Crimeana have their way. We might face various challenges from now on. I will do everything to protect everyone. So, please lend me your strength.”

Everyone nodded emphatically. Seeing their determination, I finally managed to clear my doubts.

Five days later, I received a message from Sadakichi.

“I saw a ship not far from Galby.”

“Good work. Will it arrive soon?”

“It seems to be advancing slowly. I don’t think it will arrive immediately.”

“Understood. Continue keeping watch. Let me know as soon as it reaches Galby.”

“As you command.”

The report that Crimeana’s ship was approaching the port of Galby came from Sadakichi the next day. At that time, I was working in my office in the city of Agarta. As soon as I received the report, I sent a telepathic message.

“Luala, Luala. Can you hear me?”

“Master, what is it?”

“Head to Galby immediately. Come with me. Can you come to my office right away?”

“I’ll be there right away.”

Shortly after, Luala arrived, and we hurried to Galby.

Crimeana’s ship was in the process of docking. I gave Luala some instructions.

“Understood. I’ll give it a try.”

Saying that, Luala ran towards the direction of the sea. Meanwhile, I checked the map to confirm Mei’s location and waited near the ship with an invisibility barrier to avoid drawing attention from the residents.

After about an hour of waiting, there was finally some movement at the church. Several people emerged from the church and headed towards the port. They were using carriages and moving at a fast pace. They approached me in no time.

There were four carriages in total, and I was sure Mei was in one of them. I sent a telepathic message to Luala to release the barrier and slowly approached the ship.

Some people had already come down from the carriages and were preparing to board the ship. As I called out, one of the figures wearing a hood shuddered, catching the attention of the bishops who were about to board the ship.

“…If it isn’t someone I thought I’d see, King of Agarta…”

It was the bishop, Kohreshi, who came down from the carriage. Behind him, the female bishop Jorina also descended.

“Well, well, isn’t it an honor to see you again, Your Majesty. Are you here to see Lady Mei off? How touching, truly admirable.”

Jorina sparkled with excitement as she spoke. I returned her smile with a smirk.

“Are you planning to depart soon?”

“Yes, we are setting sail for Aphrodite. The ship arrived earlier than expected. All thanks to Crimeana-sama’s blessings. We must also stop by the Imperial Capital of Lamaron on the way. It’s best to arrive early, so we will depart ahead of schedule.”

Kohreshi spoke with a pleasant smile, his voice clear and articulate.

“I advise against that.”

“What do you mean?”

Kohreshi’s smile didn’t fade, but a slight wrinkle appeared between his eyebrows.

“It seems Crimeana-sama is displeased with you. She won’t allow the ship to sail.”

“What on earth are you talking about?”

Kohreshi chuckled while looking at me.

“If you doubt me, just look at the sea.”

With a slight up-and-down movement of his head, Kohreshi slowly turned to look behind him.

“What… is that? A whirlpool? I thought it had disappeared!”

A huge whirlpool had appeared just off the coast of the port.

“Crimeana-sama seems angry at your attempt to take the Beastkin with you. That’s why she won’t let the ship sail.”

“Exactly what are you saying?”

Kohreshi laughed through his nose while looking at me.

“Seems like the truth is hard to believe, isn’t it?”

I raised both hands and shrugged my shoulders.

“What… What proof do you have?”

“Didn’t I mention the time when I visited the church and got rejected? That night, Crimeana-sama appeared in my dream.”

“N-No way!”

“Whether you believe it or not is up to you. Crimeana-sama said she won’t allow the Beastkin to be taken. The ship won’t sail.”

Kohreshi looked displeased as he glanced back at the sea.

“Crimeana-sama is merciful. If you leave the Beastkin behind and quietly return to your country, she might open the sea for you. Whether you believe it or not, it’s up to you. Or do you want to challenge the whirlpool? Your call!”

As I leaned forward, the bishops exchanged glances with each other.

“Is that really the extent of your faith in Crimeana-sama? Mei, come here.”

The figure with a hood moved its head slightly, but eventually walked slowly towards me. I gently removed the hood.

“…Mei, welcome back.”

“Master…”

Mei hugged me while crying. I patted her back gently. While holding Mei, I cast the spell for releasing criminal slaves. I imagined the magical power of the Divine Dragon and activated it. Mei’s body faintly glowed for a moment. When I appraised her, the title “Slave Sage” had changed to “Sage.” It seemed to have succeeded. After confirming it, I called out to the Crimeana priests.

“Oh, I forgot to mention, but Crimeana-sama has also granted her blessing to Meirias, this criminal slave. If you doubt me, you can check… Although I suppose you wouldn’t be able to. Well, that’s fine.”

“Master… What about the others… the other Beastkin?”

While sobbing, Mei pleaded with me.

“Leave the Beastkin behind. Crimeana-sama is angry about trying to take them away and use them. If you release the Beastkin, you’ll probably be able to depart safely. Now go!”

The Crimeana bishops left the hooded figure behind and boarded the ship with stoic expressions. According to the map, the Beastkin didn’t seem to be on the ship.

“Luala, well done.”

I sent a telepathic message, and the whirlpool subsided. After a while, the ship carrying the bishops slowly left the port of Galby.

“Master~ Mei-neesama~!!”

After a while, Luala came running.

“Mei-neesama~”

“Luala-chan~”

The two embraced each other while crying.

“What a heartwarming scene.”

Unexpectedly, Amphitrite, the Sea Queen, appeared next to me.

“Amphitrite-sama, I appreciate your help… Thank you.”

“It’s nothing. Don’t hesitate to ask anytime.”

“Thank you. I’ll bring offerings next time.”

“Looking forward to it.”

Saying that, Amphitrite disappeared.

Several days later, when Kohreshi and his companions arrived in Crimeana’s capital, Aphrodite, they promptly reported the events in Galby to the Pope.

“I see, he heard Crimeana-sama’s voice… And there was the blessing to release criminal slaves…”

The Pope maintained his gentle smile.

“E-Er… I’m afraid, as someone who hasn’t received baptism, King of Agarta’s claims of Crimeana-sama appearing in his dream and giving blessings… It’s quite audacious. Furthermore, he completely ignored the Pope’s request. Can we not consider Agarta a country that goes against divine law?”

Kohreshi spoke rapidly. The Pope kept his gentle smile and fell into contemplation for a while.

“However, as King of Agarta said, or rather, according to Crimeana-sama’s words, when we released the Beastkin, the sea calmed down, didn’t it? We need to confirm about the Beastkin’s queen, but he probably released the criminal slaves. In that case, we can’t call King of Agarta or Agarta itself a country that goes against divine law, right?”

The Pope let out a deep sigh.

“But still, King of Agarta is a mysterious individual. Is he an envoy sent by Crimeana-sama, or is he a great evildoer who uses Crimeana-sama’s name…? We must investigate King of Agarta even more thoroughly…”
