Chapter 195: Assignment of Responsibility

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

The Pope slowly directs his gaze towards Mei. Mei also meets his gaze as if she’s ready to receive it. There are unseen sparks between them. After a while, Mei averts her gaze from the Pope and looks around the cathedral slowly, then she looks at Clarina, who is crying silently in front of her.

“Ms. Clarina, I’ll ask you again. The content you presented at the Sanctuary was undoubtedly based on the results of your experiment, right?”

Clarina nods silently.

“Mei-sama, her presentation lacks credibility…” Roni tries to interject.

“Please remain silent. It’s okay. Leave it to me, Roni-san,” Mei replies firmly. Roni hesitates for a moment but eventually sits back down. Once she confirms this, Mei looks at the Pope again.

“Your Holiness, she did indeed present the results of her experiment at the Sanctuary.”

The Pope briefly widens his eyes and lets out a sigh.

“So, the content was uncertain then? Clarina-san, who presented this uncertain information, has caused chaos not only in our Crimeana Holy Land but also around the world. She must bear the responsibility, shouldn’t she?”

“Your Holiness, the argument is jumping to conclusions. She is just a researcher. What were the people in the position of confirming and guiding her presentation doing? And the Sanctuary that published the content, why didn’t the editors verify it? Moreover, the current situation with specific Beastmen being driven out of the country and Sheepmen being captured, it can’t be entirely attributed to her.”

The venue buzzes with murmurs. But Mei continues without paying attention to the noise.

“In short, this issue is not solely Clarina-san’s responsibility. Furthermore, I believe it’s a problem caused by well-intentioned individuals.”

“Well-intentioned individuals?” The Pope can’t help but voice her words. Mei nods slowly while looking at the Pope.

“The logic of the Crimeana Holy Land Medical Research Institute published in the Sanctuary was flawless. Even I read it and was convinced. From the content, there was no sign of ill will or fabrication. Moreover, it was approved by the world-renowned Director Imani and Deputy Director Darina. Especially, Professor Imani’s achievements and character are well-known to everyone. That’s why, including me, those who read the paper in the Sanctuary came to believe it.”

The venue gradually regains silence. Mei looks around the audience and continues.

“Everyone involved in this presentation, including Clarina-san, did not intend to fabricate the experiment results out of ill will. Clarina-san didn’t conduct the experiment with malicious intent. By chance, it worked in one try. Perhaps, she herself was surprised by that fact. While her experimental results lack credibility, we cannot say she intentionally fabricated them. I think this issue was triggered by a small coincidence.”

“In that case, are you saying Clarina should not be held responsible for this issue? That’s an unreasonable argument from a social standpoint, don’t you think?” The Pope questions Mei with a voice filled with authority, as if saying, “Are you not going to hold her responsible?”

“I am not currently discussing where the responsibility lies. I am examining the cause of this situation. The main cause of this problem is that no one witnessed the experiment conducted by Clarina-san. This one crucial point, this very important fact, has been overlooked by everyone.”

The Pope’s face freezes. Mei continues further.

“Furthermore, I believe there were problems with the Sanctuary as well. Because of the names of Dr. Imani and Dr. Darina, everyone believed it without question. If they had conducted a replication experiment in another institution, this situation might not have arisen. This is a point we should deeply reflect on.”

The venue buzzes again. It’s as if she is directly condemning the most authoritative medical publication. Researchers find it hard to comprehend.

“So, what does Queen Agarta suggest, then?” The Pope asks Mei with a somewhat exasperated expression. He couldn’t grasp what Mei was thinking, as he had expected her to make an unacceptable proposal politically and become a laughingstock. However, Mei’s words significantly diverged from the Pope’s prediction.

“This issue occurred within Clarina-san’s reach. Therefore, we cannot definitively conclude that the transmission of Kirislei, Gaisha, and Luroans is mediated through specific Beastmen’s bodily fluids and that the specific medicine is made using Beastmen’s bile. It may not become a universal truth due to the unique phenomenon observed in front of Clarina-san, but we cannot completely dismiss the possibility either.”

Mei slowly looks around the venue and opens her mouth again.

“The investigation of the transmission routes of Kirislei, Gaisha, and Luroans and the research on the specific medicine should be conducted with the cooperation and collaboration of the countries participating here and those willing to participate.”

The cathedral falls silent like water. Then, as if breaking that silence, small applause resonates through the cathedral. It was Linos who started it. Gradually, the applause spreads, and soon the cathedral is enveloped in thunderous applause.

Mei places her hand on Clarina’s shoulder. Clarina couldn’t hold back her emotions and bursts into tears.

“I understand Queen Agarta’s point,” echoes the Pope’s voice. The cathedral falls silent again.

“Now, who should take responsibility for this issue…? Director Imani has already collapsed. In that case, the Deputy Director…”

Darina looks up abruptly, fearfully looking at the Pope’s face.

“It must be the guidance of Crimeana, right?”

Suddenly, Linos raises his voice. Everyone looks at him with surprise.

“Surely, it must be Crimeana’s guidance for us to investigate the cause of this disease together. If we think that way, everything makes sense, doesn’t it?”

Linos tilts his head cutely, looking at the Pope.

“King Agarta, what do you think?”

“Crimeana-sama intentionally guided Clarina’s experiment to succeed in one attempt. Not to provide a complete solution but to give a hint towards the solution. It was the overenthusiastic, no, the devout followers of Crimeana-sama who quickly took action. However, that was not what Crimeana-sama intended. That’s why Crimeana-sama appeared in my dreams, and the emissaries of the Holy Land commanded me take action.”

The countries in the audience who believe in the Crimeana faith start murmuring. Linos continues, glancing at them before speaking further.

“My wife, Meirias, whether knowingly or unknowingly, conducted empirical experiments and concluded that the Holy Land’s presented results were different from the truth. She also noticed hints in the logic presented by the Holy Land. Finally, she proposed that we all cooperate to solve this disease issue. Isn’t this precisely Crimeana-sama’s intention? If we think that way, it all makes sense, doesn’t it? Yes, it does! It does!”

Linos nods to himself while placing his right hand on his chin.

“Excellent, Lady Meirias. As King Agarta says, this must be Crimeana-sama’s will. You have truly understood her intentions. Marvelous, as expected of Lady Meirias!” says Vairas as he stands up. He applauds loudly, and the diplomats around him follow, resulting in about half of the diplomats in the cathedral joining the applause.

“King Agarta…”

“The Sandangi Kingdom supports the proposal!”

Interrupting the Pope’s words, Nic from the Sandangi Kingdom stands up and raises his voice.

“We, as a country, conducted the experiments ourselves. We wholeheartedly support the idea of various countries coming together, discussing, and experimenting to eradicate incurable diseases like Kirislei. Please include our country too!”

“Nic-san, thank you. But is it okay not to obtain your country’s permission?”

“I am the King of the Sandangi Kingdom. I don’t know about your country’s system, but in our country, the King’s orders are absolute. My words will be implemented as national policy.”

“Really? Are you serious? Oh… I see… I see…” Linos replies, feeling flustered. Then he turns around, facing the Pope, and opens his mouth.

“Pope, this is Crimeana-sama’s guidance. I-I-I think it’s a g-g-great idea, right?”

The Pope gazes at Linos without saying a word. Then, he slowly stands up with an expressionless face.

“Decide the rest among yourselves.”

With his usual gentle smile, the Pope leaves the room. The cardinals follow him, but some of them protest, trying to persuade him. (T/N: Sore ass loser)

“Your Holiness!”

“Can you just abandon it like that?”

Ignoring the cardinals’ words as if he didn’t hear them, the Pope returns to the antechamber. Facing the arrayed cardinals, he opens his mouth.

“This is Crimeana-sama’s guidance. Why don’t we support it with joy?”

“Your Holiness!”

“Cardinal Juuzen, you seem quite excited. I understand your feelings well. Yes, I understand. We have all served Crimeana-sama more than anyone else. That’s right… We must think of a way to repay Crimeana-sama’s guidance. Please consider possible solutions, everyone. I beg you.”

Understanding the Pope’s intentions, the cardinals, one by one, start leaving the room. And once alone in the antechamber, the Pope mumbles to himself.

“Crimeana-sama’s guidance… Who would dare to say such a thing? A mere boy and girl, getting carried away… Those villains who dare to speak Crimeana-sama’s name…”

Instead of the gentle expression he always wore, there was now an ugly look with deep furrows on his forehead and wide-open eyes. (T/N: His natural look)

He doesn’t know. He doesn’t know that Linos’ questions from the conference will be widely copied by the people. And that this day’s conference will also be read by the masses in the future. A future where the people reading it will call Meirias the “Holy Woman”…

The Cathedral, located in the heart of the capital of the Crimeana Holy Land, Aphrodite, is slowly becoming shrouded in thick clouds.

T/N: I knew that this loser was fed with a gold spoon since birth and all the decisions went his way. I love it when people who can’t accept defeat are defeated.
