Chapter 196: The Persuader and the Persuaded

2 Comments / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

The public questioning session came to an end. For now, we had refuted Crimeana’s arguments, but we couldn’t thoroughly crush them. It feels like a missed opportunity. However, we must be careful not to corner this country too much. If we make enemies of all the believers of the Crimeana faith worldwide, things could get complicated. It may be considered a good achievement on Mei’s part to have landed the situation somewhat gracefully while preserving Crimeana’s dignity to some extent.

After the Pope left the cathedral, the delegation from Crimeana’s nation was preparing to leave, but I called out to them loudly. I warned them not to engage in any violent acts, such as capturing the beastmen and mistreating the sheepmen, as Crimeana-sama was furious with them.

Later, the remaining thirty-four countries discussed what kind of research each would take responsibility for or wish to be involved in. Just when we were about to delve into the details, the Crimeana Church’s bishop, Kohreshi, came to us and told us to leave the cathedral.

“What? What are you talking about? Crimeana-sama, yes, Crimeana-sama over there, instructed us to solve this matter together. Yet, the great cathedral of Aphrodite, the headquarters of the Crimeana Church, is going against Crimeana-sama’s orders? Is that what’s happening? Or is it Kohreshi, acting on your own?”

Kohreshi didn’t hide his frustrated expression and forced out his words.

“W-well… It’s almost sunset… The cathedral is… strictly prohibited from having open flames… I’m deeply sorry, but please leave today.”

I nodded in agreement.

“I see, then there’s nothing we can do. So, if that’s the case today, can we use this place tomorrow, Kohreshi?”

“Well… that is…”

“With you here, Kohreshi, it should be fine. How about resuming the meeting tomorrow at ten?”

All the delegations agreed.

“Don’t look so down, Kohreshi. We’re all busy. We have no intention of staying here for ten days or twenty days. Just one more day. You can handle that much work, right? After all, you were chosen, weren’t you?”

Kohreshi lowered his head while trembling.

As the delegations began to leave the cathedral one by one, we also prepared to leave when Nic from the Kingdom of Sandangi approached us.

“Nic-san… No, King Sandangi, I apologize for earlier.”

“King Agarta doesn’t need to bow to me. You can call me Nic. By the way… you have a wonderful queen by your side.”

“Thank you.”

“With such beauty and such knowledge, and the strength not to back down from the Pope… I’d really like to have someone like her as my wife.”

“King Sandangi…”

“Just kidding. Agarta Queen… We are determined to eradicate the Kulislei at all costs. Probably, our Sandangi country is the most affected by Kulislei in the world. Please, both of you from Pousehai, we would greatly appreciate your assistance. We won’t spare any support. Please, I beg you.”

Nic lowered his head, and Mei smiled warmly.

“Of course. Let’s definitely work together. By the way, how are the patients we left for the experiment doing?”

“Oh, as of now, no one has died.”

“If possible, we would like to take care of those individuals ourselves. If it’s not too much trouble, we Pousehai in the near future using the teleportation technique to pick them up.”

“That would be appreciated. Please do.”

Nic extended both hands and held Mei’s right hand, then kissed her hand before leaving gracefully.

“A kiss on the hand…”

“Mei… Tonight, let’s take a bath together.”

“Yes…”

Mei blushed and nodded.

When I turned around, I saw Clarina standing still. Vice Director Darina was no longer there.

“Clarina-san, or rather, you… Please continue with your research, okay?”

Mei spoke kindly, and Clarina weakly smiled.

“Clarina-san, if you’d like, would you consider coming to our Pousehai settlement?”

Chiwang suddenly spoke up.

“I am… a researcher from the Kingdom of Corislin. I can’t leave without permission from both the Crimeana Kingdom and the Kingdom of Corislin.”

“What are you talking about! Isn’t it Crimeana-sama’s will? If you say you’re going to study to fulfill that will, no one will complain!”

Roni immediately interjected. Watching her, Chiwang continued speaking.

“You possess a vast amount of knowledge. However, your practical experience is overwhelmingly lacking. Moreover, you don’t know basic rules. I saw your experiment notes, and there were quite a few novice mistakes. No matter how brilliant your research might be, you won’t be able to prove its results with those flaws. It’s a shame. If you’re willing, we can teach you about those aspects.”

“Chiwang-san is very strict, huh? More like a demon!”

Roni muttered, taking the chance to grumble. However, Clarina remained frozen. I quickly cast a barrier.

“Clarina-san, I’ve set up a barrier, so rest assured. Our voices won’t reach anyone else. Clarina-san, if you stay in this country, the religious nation might take your life. Even if it doesn’t go that far, your situation will become very dire. Can you conduct your research under such circumstances? If you wish to continue your research here, we won’t stop you, but you have the right to decide your own life. Chiwang and Roni have extended a helping hand to you. Whether or not you take that hand is up to you. Choose the path that will make you happy, okay?”

She pondered for a while, then looked at Chiwang and Roni and replied softly, “Thank you. Please take care of me.” I granted her the ability to be invisible to others, and we all left the cathedral, heading towards the Empire’s ship in a carriage.

Upon reaching the ship, Chiwang and Roni said they would teleport Clarina back to Krumfar first. As if on cue, Prince Vairus appeared.

“Well done, my brother. However… impersonating Crimeana-sama’s name… Are you sure about this?”

“Don’t worry, it’s fine. It’s not cheating if we don’t get caught, right?”

I smirked and chuckled, while Prince Vairus shook his head in exasperation.

Mei and I returned to the mansion in the capital. It was during dinner time, and we managed to slip in and enjoy a warm meal.

“Oh? Where are Chiwang-san and Roni-san?”

Soleil asked.

“They went back to Krumfar before us.”

“Should we prepare their dinner as well?”

“Yes, please, Peyris.”

“Understood.”

“We should make extra.”

Saying so, we finished our dinner. Then, I asked Peyris to take care of the rest and headed to the bath with Mei. I washed her hand that had been kissed by Nic with great care, making sure to clean every nook and cranny.

“M-milord, please, that’s enough…”

“Is it too much? Then, let’s stop. Mei will get mad, and when you scolded the Yomuan Kingdom people at the cathedral, I got pretty scared too.”

“Please stop… But, we can continue in the room.”

Mei blushed deeply and looked down. And so, the two of us entered the bedroom together.

Meanwhile, at the Cathedral of Aphrodite, the capital of the Crimeana Kingdom, Pope Juvenile Cane was receiving a report from one of his bishops.

“I see… So Director Imarni has passed away… And Miss Clarina has disappeared… Most likely, she hasn’t left this country. She should be in Aphrodite. Search for her. She’s a precious guest, after all. Also… Vice Director Darina… let her take some time off. So much has happened. Going back to the demanding research immediately would be physically and mentally challenging.”

The bishop bowed respectfully as the Pope spoke to him with his usual gentle tone.

“And call Vieru and Kassel.”

Upon hearing their names, the bishop performed an even more nimble bow and left the room. After a while, Vieru and Kassel arrived at the Pope’s office.

“I apologize for calling you out at this late hour. I wanted to inform you of the special assignment, which has been decided upon.”

Upon hearing the term “special assignment,” the faces of the two brightened up.

“Both of you will depart three months from now. Please make the necessary preparations. Your mission will be in the Agarta Kingdom. It is the capital where King Agarta resides. There, guide the people of Agarta to the Heavenly Path.”

Both of them couldn’t hide their excitement and gave a quick, lively bow.

Seeing their reaction, the Pope gazed at them with satisfaction.

“King Agarta has heard Crimeana-sama’s divine voice. We must guide Agarta country, which is blessed by Crimeana-sama, to the Heavenly Path. There seem to be many around the King who deviate from the Heavenly Path. Now is the time to lead both King Agarta and Agarta country to the Heavenly Path. Do you both understand?”

“Yes!”

They replied with shining eyes, and the Pope nodded with contentment.
