Chapter 223: Vielle Awakens

In the office within the capital city of Agarta, Linos sat in a chair, his arms crossed behind his head, lost in thought. Two letters were placed on his desk, and in front of them stood two men who had delivered the letters, anxiously gauging Linos’s expression.

“Um… Should we leave, perhaps?” one of the men couldn’t endure the silence and spoke. At his words, Linos, with a slightly surprised expression, quickly waved his hand and replied, “I apologize, I apologize. It was an unexpected timing, almost as if it were coordinated. I had suspected there might be something more to it. Let’s see… I should start with this one. It mentions wanting to talk formally. As for the other one… Let’s keep it waiting a bit longer. I doubt it holds anything good. Please wait a while.”

Saying so, Linos left the office.

“I never expected to receive letters from both Vielle and Cassel wanting to meet me at the same time in Agarta’s capital. The young lady mentioned she wants to talk to Rico as well, and the young man wishes to speak with Vielle. The fact that their letters are nearly identical feels somewhat unsettling…”

Muttering such thoughts under his breath, Linos temporarily teleported to the capital’s mansion.

Several hours later, in the audience chamber of the guest palace, Linos and Rico sat on thrones, awaiting Vielle, who had requested an audience. When Linos returned to the capital’s mansion and relayed Vielle’s desire to meet, Rico immediately agreed and swiftly prepared. She even managed to convince Linos to wear formal attire, despite his reluctance.

“As you wish, have you also invited my queen to join us? Rather than sending letters, you could have simply informed Mei and Roni. Shouldn’t you be more interested in speaking with my queen? If that’s the case, I can excuse myself, right?”

Addressing Vielle, who had appeared in formal attire in the audience chamber, Linos spoke curtly, making no effort to conceal his displeasure. Undaunted by his demeanor, Vielle gracefully bowed.

“I heard you had been unwell recently, but it seems you’ve recovered somewhat. How have you been feeling lately?”

Rico, still exuding her remarkable beauty but noticeably slimmer, inquired of Vielle. Despite her thinner appearance, the dark circles under her eyes had vanished, and, most importantly, her eyes now held a powerful gleam.

“Yes, thank you. I’m perfectly fine now. I feel truly honored to receive such hospitality from both King Agarta and Queen Agarta, especially considering my humble status. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you.”

“Vielle-san, you are a member of the Holy Pope’s lineage in the Kingdom of Crimeana. You have come here not only to meet my husband, King Agarta, but also to see me, as indicated in your letters. I assume you have reached some significant decision, which is why I extended this hospitality.”

“Oh? Is that so? In that case, why not just meet in your office…?” Linos interjected with a puzzled tone.

Rico directed her gaze at Linos, who casually muttered such words, her face carrying a smile. However, her eyes betrayed no amusement. It was a sign from Rico, telling him to cut it out. If he continued to act stubborn, he would surely face consequences. Linos adjusted his posture while repeating apologies in his mind.

“So, as mentioned in the letters, what is it that you wish to convey to us?” Vielle’s presence shifted, and an air of determination emanated from her entire being.

“I have come to report my chosen path and determination because I have decided upon it. However…”

“However… what?”

“Yes. There’s one thing I’m not sure about. But I believe it’s something I will have to figure out as I dedicate my life to it. I spoke out of turn. Please forget it.”

“No, Vielle-san. If you’re willing, could you share that uncertainty with us? Perhaps I can offer some insights that might be helpful?”

“Very well then…”

Vielle corrected her posture once again and slowly began to speak.

“I intend to return to the Holy Kingdom. From now on, I want to devote my entire life to becoming a saintess, like our Supreme Deity, Crimeana-sama.”

“What? Doesn’t that sound similar to what you’ve been doing all along?” Linos interjected, unable to hold back. Rico, once again, directed her gaze at him. He glanced at Rico briefly and then cleared his throat, returning his attention to Vielle. (T/N: This guy does not know how to control his emotions, being OP you get away with so much)

“Up until now, I had only considered saving those who believed in the Crimeana faith. I believed that Crimeana was the true path, and any contrary beliefs or actions were all evils that should be eradicated.”

Vielle, who had been gazing into the distance, turned her gaze back to Linos and Rico.

“Now, I intend to extend my salvation not only to believers in the Crimeana faith but also to those with different beliefs, even those who do not believe at all. I want to offer a helping hand to all living beings without discrimination. I aspire to be someone who can extend salvation to all living things and will strive to become that person.”

“It’s quite a noble sentiment, but are you sure you’ll be okay? It sounds like it will be quite a struggle,” Linos commented. Vielle’s words had prompted him to speak without thinking.

In response to Linos’s words, Rico once again directed her gaze at him. Vielle, with a distant look in her eyes, responded.

“I have come to realize something. In the teachings of the Crimeana faith, there is a passage that says, ‘Help those who benefit us, and eliminate those who harm us.’ It has been taught to us as a call to save Crimeana believers. However, I believe that the Supreme Deity meant it as a call to save all living beings when using the term ‘us.’ And when it speaks of eliminating those who harm us, it likely refers to actions and thoughts that, as King Agarta so aptly put it, cause harm to others. I have come to realize that this is the true doctrine of the Crimeana faith.”

Upon hearing these words, Linos couldn’t help but exhale a quiet “Hmm.” Then, immediately after, Rico, sitting next to Linos, stood up and applauded.

“Marvelous, absolutely marvelous, Vielle-sama! Hearing your words, I finally understand a doctrine I’ve had doubts about,” Rico exclaimed with a radiant smile.

Vielle responded with a gracious smile. “I’ve spent days on the brink of death, even days when I wished for death. But it was precisely in such circumstances that I realized I truly want to keep living. After facing myself deeply in those moments, I came to this conclusion. I’m grateful for the trials I’ve been given, and I sincerely thank King Agarta for saving my life.”

With that, Vielle kneeled and bowed deeply. After a moment, she rose to her feet and continued speaking.

“To continue living, I must learn how to save people. I don’t yet know how, but I intend to find that way through the course of my life.”

“Oh, that’s quite simple,” Rico interjected with a smile.

“Simple, you say?”

“Yes, it’s simple. There are only two ways to save people: knowledge and money. Understanding opens people’s hearts. I was the same. I grew up within the walls of the Hideita Empire’s castle, ignorant of the outside world. At that time, I was an unpleasant woman who couldn’t do anything but held lofty ideals. However, after meeting my husband and encountering many others, receiving teachings and guidance, and gaining experience, I became who I am today. Vielle-san, you too, should learn, understand, and gain experience. If you do, you will find your own way to save people. And of course, money goes without saying. Having it is better than not, and with money, you can help many people.”

Rico spoke with an unsettlingly beautiful smile while addressing Vielle. Vielle, as if coming to a realization, nodded emphatically.

“By the way, the topic has shifted, but I received a letter from Cassel expressing a desire to meet me. It mentioned wanting to meet Vielle-neesama as well. So, what do you think? Shall I meet with Cassel?”

Linos coughed and then addressed Vielle. She responded promptly, without hesitation.

“Yes, that is perfectly fine. In fact, I was hoping to meet with Cassel. I would appreciate it if King Agarta could also join our meeting with Cassel.”

“Huh? Is that so? Aren’t there things you want to discuss privately with Cassel?”

“No. On the contrary, I believe it would be better if King Agarta were to attend.”

“I see… Well then, I’ll reply accordingly and let you know about the schedule.”

“Thank you. Then, if you’ll excuse me.”

After Vielle had left, Linos couldn’t help but turn to Rico and speak.

“I never expected Vielle to turn out like this. It’s surprising. And you, Rico, when did you come up with such ideas?”

“Oh, everything was thanks to you, Linos.”

“Me? No way… Did I really do something like that?”

Linos furrowed his brow as he thought hard. While he naturally possessed the ability to help people and make them realize things, he had no self-awareness of it. Rico found Linos endearing and her affection for him continued to deepen.

Several years later, Vielle would instigate a major event, the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the inception of the Crimeana faith. But that’s a story for another time.
