Chapter 254: A Divine Word

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

Dawn broke. Having barely slept for two whole days, my body felt sluggish.

I sat at the dining table, staring blankly at the figure of Lord Shinryu, who was voraciously eating breakfast in front of me. Astonishingly, he was devouring every single castella cake and pastry in the mansion, munching on them as if they were snacks, starting from the top and working his way down.

“Delicious, indeed. I’ve taken a liking to this castella,” he declared, thoroughly pleased with himself. Watching him was somewhat unsettling, but next to me sat Soleil, in her enticing pajamas. Despite complaining about the cold, she snuggled close to me, her proximity serving as my awakening.

After Sidy had vomited loudly in my room, she was carried away by Mei and the others. It seems she had inhaled a sleeping powder to rest but was rudely awakened by my loud voice, leaving her in a semi-conscious state. Now, she was asleep again, thanks to a powder provided by Fairi.

“Master…”

I heard a voice from behind. Turning around, I saw Mei.

“Lady Rico… has awakened,” she informed me.

“Understood,” I replied, taking a deep breath before standing up. Leaving Lord Shinryu in Soleil’s care, Mei and I slowly made our way to Rico’s room.

The distance, normally a mere 30-second walk, felt incredibly far today. Despite being manipulated by the sealed spirit, I had nearly strangled Rico to death. I wondered if she would ever forgive me. I prepared myself to apologize sincerely and accept her decision if forgiveness was beyond reach.

As we arrived at the room, my steps halted. Mei gently urged me forward, and with a determined heart, I opened the door.

There was Rico, lying on the bed, with Matokal holding Eril next to her. Noticing me, Eril jumped down from Matokal’s arms and ran towards me with a bounce.

“Daddy!”

“Eril!”

I lifted her into my arms, and she nuzzled her face into my shoulder, still seemingly sleepy. Sitting down beside the bed, I faced Rico.

“Rico…”

Silence lingered as she fixed her gaze on me, words failing to escape me for a moment.

“Rico-sama’s condition is stable, and the baby is doing well,” Mei interjected, offering support.

“Rico… I’m relieved you and the baby are safe. I’m truly sorry,” I began, slowly bowing my head.

“There’s no need for you to apologize, Linos,” Rico suddenly said, causing me to look up in surprise. She stared directly at me with steady eyes.

“Have you dealt with the spirit that was controlling you?” she asked.

“Yes, Sidy managed to seal it away effectively,” I confirmed.

“Then, there’s nothing to worry about,” she reassured me.

“Rico… are you sure?” I pressed, incredulous.

“What are you referring to?”

“I… I almost killed you.”

“Was it not because you were being controlled? That’s beyond your control. If anything, we should commend the spirit for breaching your formidable barriers,” Rico reasoned.

“Even so, Rico…”

“Linos,” she said, locking eyes with me earnestly. I swallowed, waiting for her next words.

“If I were to be killed by you, I would consider it an honor,” she declared.

“What? Why?”

“If I must die, I wish it to be by your hand. However, I have just one request.”

“A request?”

“Please… let this child in my womb be born. I want to bring this child into the world no matter what.”

“Rico…”

Holding Eril in my left arm, I reached out with my right to embrace Rico. Her words were a testament to our bond, a moment of bliss I wished could last forever.

“I’m hungry,” Eril’s voice suddenly brought us back to reality. She wriggled out of my embrace and collapsed onto Rico’s bed. Rico, smiling as usual, opened her mouth to speak, her expression filled with warmth.

“Come, Eril, Linos, let’s have a meal!”

Her smile was astonishingly beautiful and adorable. To me, it seemed as if Rico was illuminated by a halo of light.

That evening, accompanied by Sidy, I visited the room of King Maintia. Our sudden arrival surprised Patterson and the others. Truth be told, I was surprised myself.

A short while earlier, while I was working in the office in Agartha, Sidy suddenly appeared. She looked more energetic than usual, probably from having rested well, and declared she wanted to visit King Maintia immediately.

I tried to suggest checking if it was a convenient time, but Sidy insisted on going right away. Without understanding her reasons, I had no choice but to follow her brisk pace to the king’s room. Upon arriving, she wasted no time with greetings and directly addressed King Maintia.

“What happened in the country of Vladime? King Maintia, you were possessed by a spirit filled with tremendous hatred. It’s currently sealed within a dagger, but this seal might break someday. If Lord Linos were to die… the seal would be undone. Releasing this spirit back into the world would not be good for Vladime or any other nation. It’s necessary to appease this spirit. Who is this man with a square face sealed here?”

From the moment Sidy spoke, it was clear Patterson and the others were unsettled. However, King Maintia, with his usual gentle smile, slowly began to speak.

“A square face… Could it be Uncle Cabaret?”

“Cabaret?”

“My father, the great king’s brother. So, it’s Uncle Cabaret…”

“Why did Lord Cabaret harbor such hatred to become a half-spirit? What happened in Vladime?”

King Maintia didn’t answer Sidy’s question; instead, he closed his eyes, lost in thought.

“Uncle… was a master of kemari and loved the arts. He was the opposite of my father, yet they were close. He could have been considered my father’s right hand.”

“So, why would someone like him…”

“I don’t know the details. Maybe Patterson and the others know.”

The king turned to glance at Patterson and his companions, who quickly looked away.

“No matter how much we ask, they say they don’t know. I can’t demand answers from them. But what I’ve heard is that after my aunt passed away, my uncle went mad, killed his young son Gregorn, and then took his own life. Uncle and Aunt were very close. I was fond of my aunt and got along well with my cousin Gregorn, so hearing that was a great shock.”

King Maintia seemed lost in thought for a moment, then slowly continued.

“So, Uncle was attached to me, filled with hatred… I don’t recall doing anything to earn his resentment. I wonder why. I would like to speak with him if possible. Queen, that dagger where Uncle is sealed… where is it?”

“It’s enshrined in a certain place.”

“May I see it?”

“It’s sealed within a strong barrier, so it might be difficult to view. First of all…”

Sidy closed her eyes, placing the index and middle fingers of her left hand on her forehead, pondering. Then, slowly lifting her face, she addressed King Maintia.

“First, we need to prioritize appeasing the spirit. How we proceed…”

“I see. Leave that to me.”

“Do you have an idea?”

“Yes, I have a plan. Let me handle Uncle’s matter.”

King Maintia, more confident than usual, was observed expressionlessly by Sidy. I felt a slight headache, sensing that trouble might be brewing.
