Chapter 262: With Joy Comes Sorrow

2 Comments / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

“Ro…ni…”

Dorki slumped in despair. Then, he knelt down, his shoulders shaking violently. It seemed that not only Roni’s words but also the body blow he had received earlier were still affecting him.

“Master, first we should go to Lady Rico… I’ll keep an eye on him,”

Luala expressed her dismay, addressing me. Fairi, intrigued by the situation, fluttered above Dorki.

“I would be grateful, Lady Luala, if you could watch over this man. If it’s not too much trouble, Lady Fairi, could you release your paralyzing scales to immobilize him? He might try to escape through teleportation, but please leave him be if he does. This man has never been strong, so there’s no concern of him attacking. Please rest assured,”

Roni said all this rapidly before taking a breath. Then, turning back to me, she bowed slightly.

“Let me guide you,”

Following her words, I walked towards Rico’s place, worried about Dorki, who was struggling on all fours. I considered enclosing him in a barrier but felt intuitively that he wouldn’t harm us, so I decided against it. Besides, Luala is fairly strong, so there shouldn’t be any serious trouble.

“Please, this way,”

Upon reaching the birthing room, Roni opened the door. I cast a cleansing spell for disinfection before we entered. The scene before us was similar to when Eril and Aliria were born.

“Oh, Linos-sama,”

Mei, holding a baby, smiled at me from the bedside. Ferris and Peyris seemed to be finishing up their tasks, but they greeted me with smiles and congratulations. I thanked them and quickly moved to Mei to take the child from her.

The baby’s face, wrinkly like a little monkey, seemed to resemble mine somehow. His eyes were tightly shut, probably already asleep, as he wasn’t crying.

“Do you think he looks like me?”

“He is the spitting image of you.”

Rico looked at me with a beaming smile. I handed the baby back to Rico and sat down beside the bed.

“A boy?”

“Yes, a boy,”

“We did it, Rico.”

“Yes. We have… a successor,”

“Thank you, Rico. You did so well,”

“We must… decide on a name,”

“Yes, I’ve already thought of one. The name is… Ah, Idea,”

“Oh, Idea,”

Rico’s face lit up with joy. We had discussed several names together when we thought Eril would be a boy, and Idea was one we both liked. Seeing this baby now brought back those memories.

“Basam Daake Idea… He will surely become a wonderful man,”

Rico said, her face glowing with happiness.

“Rico, are you feeling alright?”

“Yes, this birth was much quicker than Eril’s… It was surprisingly easy,”

“That’s good to hear. And this child, he’s already sleeping? He seems so calm,”

“Yes. He was a very easy child even in my womb, with hardly any morning sickness,”

Rico lovingly stroked the baby’s head. Everyone around offered their congratulations, with Rico looking truly happy.

“Mommy!”

Aliria rushed to Mei, asking to be held. Mei carefully lifted her to show the baby.

“Look, Aliria, your brother. From now on, you’ll need to act like a big sister, alright?”

“Okay!”

The whole family was smiling. It was a truly happy moment.

I then noticed Eril, standing alone, watching us. I approached her and knelt down.

“Congratulations, Eril. You’re a big sister again,”

I said as I picked her up and brought her over to Rico.

“Look, Eril, this is your brother Idea… Protect him if anything happens, okay?”

“Okay!”

Eril nodded eagerly, her face beaming with joy. Seeing this, the whole family smiled once more.

“Um, congratulations to you all,”

Suddenly, a comical voice filled the room. Turning towards the voice, we saw Dorki standing there with a broad smile. Roni silently grabbed him by the collar, intending to take him outside.

“Wait, Roni! It’s not what you think!”

“What could possibly be different? This is the birthing room! It’s off-limits to anyone not involved! So, please, leave at once!”

“Wait a moment! I have something for the queen…”

Upon closer inspection, Dorki was holding something in his hands.

“Roni, it’s fine. Just wait a moment. Dorki, what do you have there?”

“It’s… Katchin.”

“Katchin?”

“It’s mochi, Master.”

Luala appeared from behind Dorki, calming Roni with a “now, now” gesture, then turned to us to explain.

“Suddenly, he muttered ‘That’s it!’ and teleported away… We thought he had gone somewhere, but he returned to the mansion shortly after with this mochi. He made it himself, he says. And this mochi is supposed to help recover strength, so he insisted on giving some to Lady Rico…”

“And you brought him here because of that?”

“I tried one myself, and… well, it was incredibly delicious.”

“Mochi, you say?”

I approached Dorki to inspect the box he was holding. Inside were several flat pieces of mochi. I activated my appraisal skill on them, and it seemed they contained no poison.

“May I have one?”

“Of course.”

He responded with a beaming smile. I took a piece of mochi and popped it into my mouth.

“Wow… this is incredible! So delicious!”

“Right, Master? It’s truly delicious mochi.”

Luala’s praise made sense. The mochi was unexpectedly soft, with just the right amount of sweetness. Moreover, it was double-layered, with a paste-like sauce in between that added a rich flavor, creating a perfect harmony with the mochi.

“Not only is the mochi delicious, but the sauce inside is exquisite. And… is that burdock? But the flavor… incredible. I’ve never had mochi this delicious before. I’m moved.”

Dorki, blushing, fluttered his long ears.

“Still, Luala, I have to say, you were quite brave to eat it. Weren’t you worried about poison or something?”

“I can digest a certain amount of poison, and with Fairi here, I thought she could produce an antidote if necessary. But more than that, I just had a feeling it would be delicious.”

“I see. Indeed, the mochi looked so shiny and appetizing. It’s amazing you can make something like this, Dorki.”

“It’s still a prototype, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure if it would suit your taste, but considering the queen has just given birth and must be tired, I thought she might like it…”

Saying this, he handed me the box. I thanked him politely and fed some to Rico.

“Rico, here you go.”

“This is really… delicious. Mei, Mat, everyone, you should try some.”

Rico was speechless, holding her hands to her mouth. Then, Mei and the others tried the mochi, and as expected, they were full of praise, calling it delicious. I fed the last piece to Rico, who chewed it slowly, savoring the taste before swallowing with a contented expression.

“Ah, that was wonderful. Dorki… it was truly delicious. Thank you very much.”

Rico thanked him with a radiant smile, and Dorki bowed deeply in response, saying it was nothing.

“By the way, this Dorki fellow is a Pousehai like Roni, isn’t he? Are you companions of Roni?”

Rico asked, looking curious. That’s right, I hadn’t introduced Dorki to Rico. That was careless of me.

“Ah, Rico. He is…”

“Yes! I am Roni’s fianc…Oof!”

At that moment, Roni’s fist was deeply embedded in Dorki’s side.

“I, HAVE, NOT agreed to any engagement with you! And… why didn’t I get any of it?!”

…Eh? That’s the issue? Well, for a food lover like Roni, not getting to taste delicious mochi must indeed be a tragedy. It seems we have another problem to solve. Amidst all this commotion, little Idea slept soundly. Perhaps he’s destined to be a great man in the future…
