Chance Encounter

When Zhao Yu went to the Human Resources Department to ask for advice, she bumped into Qin Yi, who had previously participated in several volunteer activities with her.

Once Qin Yi saw her, she immediately came over to greet her happily, “Sister Zhao.”

Seeing her in business attire and a ponytail, Zhao Yu smiled and asked, “Did you come in for an interview?”

“Yes, I will be a senior at the beginning of this school year and it just so happens that your company is willing to recruit interns.”

“Judging by your high spirits, did you pass?”

Qin Yi smiled triumphantly. “Passed on the spot, I don’t even have to go back and wait for notification.”

Speaking of this, she stretched out her hand to Zhao Yu and very seriously said, “I will be your colleague from now on, please take care of me.”

Zhao Yu smiled and shook hands with her, but inwardly thought, if Qin Yi knew that Ji Sui was working at Lanxi, she would definitely not be standing here.

Unfortunately, it was also her goal to get Ji Sui. Otherwise, she would’ve been willing to help Qin Yi out.

When she returned to her work station, she thought about it then took the opportunity to send a message to Ji Sui through WeChat:

[Remember Qin Yi]

Ji Sui: [Who]

[That little beauty who volunteered with me. You sent her back to school the day we first met, did you remember]

[Ah]

[Do you want me to tell her that you are working at Lanxi]

[What do you mean]

Zhao Yu: [Can’t you tell when people are interested in you? Didn’t you want to help yourself? Getting into a new relationship is the best way to help yourself. The little girl is pretty and has a cheerful personality. She came to Huacan for an interview today. If you know you are in Lanxi, she will definitely go to Lanxi, or if you don’t like office romances, I’ll give her your WeChat, so she can chat with you]

She sent a large text, it took a few minutes for Ji Sui to reply, and it was only a few words:

[No need, thanks]

Zhao Yu thought about whether she should apologize, and say she was being too nosy, but Ji Sui sent another message:

[I don’t like girls that are too young]

He probably felt that his first four-word reply looked too blunt and unkind, so he deliberately added the last sentence.

Zhao Yu smiled and dropped it.

At noon, Xue Ziang took Zhao Yu to a famous gourmet restaurant for dinner, saying that she needed to eat well during her menstrual period.

The restaurant’s prices were extremely high, and since it was lunchtime, there were not many people there. As soon as Zhao Yu walked in, she saw Shang Lu sitting at the corner table.

Shang Lu also saw her, their eyes met but both their expressions remained calm.

On the contrary, the 30-year-old man sitting opposite Shanglu greeted Xue Ziang from a distance. “How does Mr. Xue have time to come over for a meal?”

It was a little far from Huacan but very close to Kuang Shiji. Zhao Yu guessed the man was probably from the same company as Shang Lu.

Xue Ziang and the man seemed to be familiar, and he led Zhao Yu over and smiled, “Mr. Fei isn’t claiming this place for yourself, right?”

The man smiled and gestured to the still empty table. “We have just arrived and still haven’t ordered. Do you want to eat together? I have a few questions I want to ask Mr. Xue.”

Normally, Xue Ziang would definitely sit down without thinking twice, but now that Zhao Yu was with him, he looked back at her questioningly.

Zhao Yu knew that since he didn’t refuse outright, he was considering sitting with them, so she smiled and nodded.

The sofa seats were large and the man considerately got up and sat next to Shang Lu, giving them the opposite seat. Xue Ziang put his arms around Zhao Yu’s waist, guiding her to the inside of the seat, directly opposite of Shang Lu.

Xue Ziang introduced them. “This is Mr. Fei from Wei Le. You met Mr. Shang from Kuang Shiji last time.”

Zhao Yu greeted them with a smile. “Mr. Fei, Mr. Shang.”

The man smiled. “You don’t need to be polite, just call me Fei Heng.”

Fei Heng?

Zhao Yu was surprised, she’s heard of this name.

Xue Ziang continued to introduce her to the people opposite them, “Zhao Yu.”

“Zhao Yu?” Fei Heng also seemed to be surprised, and a mildly probing gaze fell on Zhao Yu’s face, but he quickly relaxed smiling, “The character Yu from the word Yuji? This name is quite unique.”

After that, he gave Shang Lu a meaningful look, but Shang Lu was still expressionless.

Zhao Yu knew what Fei Heng meant.

When Shang Lu took her to America three years ago, she used an H1B visa. Shang Lu asked Fei Heng to handle the visa for her in the name of the US company he was in charge of at the time.

Although she and Fei Heng have never met each other, they know each other’s names, and Fei Heng even knew of her relationship with Shang Lu.

Perceiving that Fei Heng’s look at Zhao Yu contained some interest, Xue Ziang instinctively took preventative measures, deliberately wrapped his arm around Zhao Yu’s shoulder, and put the menu in front of her. “See anything you want to eat?”

Zhao Yu smiled lightly. “It’s better if you order.”

“That’s right, I know your taste anyway.” Xue Ziang smiled proudly, calling the waiter to order.

Fei Heng took advantage of Xue Ziang’s downturned gaze when looking at the menu and mouthed to Shanglu, “Your woman?”

Shang Lu glanced at him lightly and pushed the menu towards him. “You order.”

Fei Heng shrugged and said curiously, “That’s right, I know your taste anyway.”

Zhao Yu took the opportunity to look at Shang Lu calmly, and Shang Lu glanced at Fei Heng, then looked at her firmly.

Although his expression didn’t change, Zhao Yu understood. He was telling her that Fei Heng would not talk about their previous relationship, so she was relieved.

But Zhao Yu was not worried about this, she just suddenly remembered the phone number he called her on the day of his engagement.

Fei Heng looked at the eye contact between the two and found it very funny. He laughed lowly and took out a cigarette. “Mind if I smoke?”

Xue Ziang looked up and smiled apologetically. “I’m sorry, my girlfriend can’t stand the smell of smoke.”

Girlfriend? This was the first time Zhao Yu heard these words come out of Xue Ziang.

After hearing what he said, Shang Lu couldn’t help but glance at Zhao Yu.

Zhao Yu thought Shang Lu would know this was very peculiar.

Obviously, when they met, she was extremely addicted to cigarettes, smoking several packs a day. Now in front of Xue Ziang, she was a perfect little white lotus that could not stand smoke.

Not able to smoke, Fei Heng put away the lighter that he brought out. His eyes lingered on the affectionate faces of the lovebirds, and suddenly said, “I didn’t expect that Master Xue who have had such tangled paths with countless women, would one day settle down with a girlfriend.”

While on the surface, he was lamenting, he was in fact tearing down Xue Ziang.

Shang Lu knew that his friend was deliberately standing up for him, so he glanced at Fei Heng again, but Fei Heng only responded with an innocent smile.

Before Xue Ziang could reply, Zhao Yu smiled at the waiter standing by and said, “I want a mushroom sea cucumber soup with a little more salt.”

After that, she looked at Xue Ziang sweetly, “Ziang, what do you want to have? Does “Old pigeon and fish maw” soup sound good? I remember it’s your favorite and you’ve been too tired from work the past two days. You can nourish your lungs and protect your liver with this.”1

Actually, it didn’t matter what the soup was, what was important was that she gave Xue Ziang a lot of face in front of the others, by responding to Fei Heng’s nasty teasing with this gesture for him.

Xue Ziang smiled, and the expression in Zhao Yu’s eyes was even more tender: “Thank you, you know me best.”

Fei Heng was so sickened the corners of his mouth twitched, trying to suppress the urge to roll his eyes, and looked helplessly at Shang Lu.

As a result, Shang Lu returned him with an extremely cold and dagger-like glare.

Sigh, this time he failed to please anyone.2

A/N: Shang Lu: This pig of a teammate next to him used a knife to help stab an outsider, but ended up stabbing me.

Fei Heng is not a male lead, just an NPC.

1 虫草花胶老鸽汤 If any of you were wondering what this soup is or want to “nourish your lungs and protect your liver”, it’s a kind of fancy chicken soup.

2 里外不是人 Idiom time, it actually means you’re a 3rd party that got roped into a situation but however you act/react would not satisfy either party. Like you’d be in the wrong no matter what. xD

T/N: I don’t know about you but since I started this project to help improve my Chinese, I love learning these little tidbits of culture and sayings and want to share!

Also, I’ll give the poll a little more time but so far Shang Lu and Ji Sui are in the lead followed closely by none of these suckers ahahhaha.
