「― …… Fuwaa 」

Biting down a huge sigh that would be laughed at if anyone saw me, I rubbed my eyelids and looked around.

I was lying on a hard board instead of a warm bed, which left me with a numb sensation here and there, but a light bending motion brought me back to normal.

Now, this room, with all kinds of things scattered on the floor, is not a guest room at Feeder Pops. (TL: MTL says Ajiman Ponpoko Tei, but I’m just gonna use the last translators name for the inn. Ajiman Ponpoko Tei is way too long-winded)

「I’m starving…」

And to make matters worse, I didn’t even eat last night.

「Fun… nya…」

The cause of this was an old man lying on a piece of cloth on the floor next to me, breathing in his sleep – old Worm.

In the end, I couldn’t refuse Worm’s pleas, and I was forced to stay up all night training him to use magic on the condition that he never misuse it and limit it to personal use only.

Once he got the hang of the 《Optical Camouflage》, Worm’s progress was unusually fast. I wondered if it was the difference in experience that allowed him to learn the magic I had spent several days perfecting in only a single night.

After becoming invisible, he fell to the floor and fell asleep, exhausted from overusing his magic.

Attribute magic transforms images into phenomena by transforming mana in the atmosphere, but not without burdening the user.

It seems that no progress was made towards his main research. Was this a good idea?

Even so, Old Worm must be used to this, seeing as though he is sleeping so peacefully.

I don’t think this room is a very comfortable place to sleep. It’s so cluttered that even finding a place to lie down is a challenge.

「Fuo……ili……ycha……」(TL: In case you missed it he’s dreaming of the wonderful Illi-chan)

You’re talking in your sleep…

He’s really consistent. This guy.

–In the event that you’ve got any questions concerning where and how to use the internet, you can contact us at our own web site.

–I don’t want to watch an old man sleep for any length of time, so I turned my back to old Wom to reach the door of my room, thinking I would go back to the inn and fill my stomach.

「… Oh no, no, no, no, no. I almost forgot.」

I walked up to the old man lying on the floor and touched his body in a probing manner.

It’s important to remember why you did things.

I’m just trying to get the reward that I was promised,

A magic tool bag – an essential item that can hold more than it’s own size in items.

For adventures whose hands are often full of monster materials, there is no better item than this.

I’m tempted to try it out and see what the capacity is, but I’m afraid that it might tear, so I’ll just have to check it out later.

So, I found it… but…

I found the tool bag clenched under his robe, but it showed no signs of loosening as I tried to open his palm.

On the contrary, I had to dodge his arm after he tried to grab my hand back, and I smoothly shifted my weight on my feet to get away from old Worm.

「Fuh…」

Don’t lose sleep over it please.

… I’m not Illy-san. I’m promise.

I couldn’t work up the courage to approach him again, so I’ve put the magic tool bag off for now.

— I had forgotten Rook, who was tied up outside the laboratory, and accidentally left him there. Rocking on the back of the now grumpy scaled dragon, I managed to get back to Bellyful Flavors via the Adventurer’s Guild. (TL: Rook’s MTL is Luke. I will do my best to remember to change it, but just in case I forget now you know. Also, Bellyful Flavors’ direct MTL is Ajiman Ponpoko Pavilion. God that’s so long-winded. Kind of like this TL note. Sorry)

I’m sure Rook was joking when he stared at my body on the way, saying that he was hungry, but I can’t wait to get him something to eat.

Please don’t look at me like you’re looking at meat.

The reason why I dropped by the guild was to report the accomplishment of the request, receive the reward, and sell the skins of the Geegworg I encountered in the forest. (TL: Geegworg is the Wolf things from the forest. I’m not going to go look for that one off name the author gave in the translation so Geegworg it will be)

The reward for the request was 500 drachmas, and the sale of the skins on …… was also 500 drachmas – a total of 10,000 drachmas. (TL: Keeping the MTL’s translation for the currency. I think changing it unnecessary)

In other words, one gold coin is yesterday’s profit.

I’m starting to make some money now.

I don’t feel the need to buy new equipment right now, so I want to save up for when the time comes.

In addition to the rewards obtained from Marita’s escort request, the remainder of the money is a little over 100,000 dollars. (TL: The MTL may just be converting it from yen to dollars. IDK. This is what it says)

At this inn, the accommodation fee is 600 drachmas, so this is enough to live without doing anything for about six months.

「Oh, you didn’t come back yesterday, so I was worried about you. Are you okay?」

When I entered the inn, Stella-san, the sign girl with a dazzling smile as usual, asked me with concern.

I had paid for my stay for several days in advance, so she must have expected me to come back.

For adventurers, who live in constant danger, it is common knowledge we are much closer to death than ordinary people.

I am glad that she is worried about me.

But adventurers are not afraid of death, but rather walk alongside it.

It’s hard to be a man.

「No, I was already back in town last night, but I had some business to attend to.」

「Oh, I see. You look like you’re tired. What on earth were you doing? 」

Stella-san tilted her head, and her light pink hair swayed softly.

As she was looking at me with a questioning expression, another voice came from the kitchen.

「Hey, Stella. Don’t pry too deeply into the actions of our guests. Seiji-san has such a magnificent cavalry animal. There’s nothing dangerous about a good adventurer walking the streets late at night. Besides…」

As if to interrupt Uran’s words, Stella took a step forward. (TL: Not bothering to use the Old Translator’s name. Too new of a character to care)

「 Well, it’s not a good idea to ask customers this and that, but Seiji-san is still young, and if he were to get involved in a dangerous incident– 」

This time, Uran stopped Stella from speaking.

「 I’m not sure if you’ve seen the accommodation records. Seiji is already eighteen years old… What I mean is… Seiji is also a man so… at night… he may be…」

…Wait, wait, wait.

What do you mean?

What did I do?

Stella expressed her surprise at my age, but she is a sign girl.

She immediately returned to smiling, but it seemed to take her a few seconds to understand the meaning of Uran’s words.

Slowly, her cheeks turned red, and she bowed deeply to me, hiding her cheeks, which eventually turned redder than her hair.

「I’m sorry. I was not thinking clearly and asked a rude question.」

No, you’re not!

You’re overthinking it!

Why would Uran say that…

The place I was visiting last night was a magic laboratory, not some seedy store. The person I was dealing with was far from a pretty girl.

It was just an old dude

It’s not even super sage time.

I guess if you spend the night with an old man like that, people will worry that you are tired.

Well, Illi was so beautiful that the words “beautiful older sister” aren’t quite enough to describe her.

「It was part of the request I took last night, like an after-sale service. I’ve never even been to a place like that before.」

I was in a hurry and raised my voice a little, but Stella apologized to me again.

「 I’m sorry. I’m….. 」

「I was wondering if you could prepare some breakfast for me. I’m starving. Also, could you please get something to eat for Rook?」

「Oh, yes. Oh, yes, I’ll prepare it right away. Uran, please– … wait a minute.」

Stella-san, who ran to the kitchen, crowded Uran-san with an expression that seemed to freeze her smile in place.

「 If you’re thinking like that, does that mean…… you’ve been to one of those stores? 」

「Don’t be silly. I barely have enough time between cooking meals and preparing food, and when I do have any free time, I go fishing. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t be able to. You know that. 」

…… Uran-san, I don’t think you needed the last word.

「 Huh, you want to go? Well, the store might be surprised if such a strong customer comes. Why don’t you go and give it a try? 」

With a smile on her face, Stella cut him off.

「You… you’re often asked out for drinks by your customers. Why don’t you give it a try? It’s fine if you’re friendly, but don’t you always answer in an unclear way, which is why so many people call on you?」

―― Oh. The air is so tense.

I dare you to say it.

Let’s just get on with it shall we.

To continue, I’m very hungry.

Hurry up and get me some food!

Now!

「–You guys! What are you complaining about? If you don’t want to be bored tomorrow, you’d better work your hours.」

Speaking for me was Magdalena, the proprietress of Bellyful Flavors.

She came downstairs and gave them a shout, and they instantly moved to get back to work

Then, after successfully eating breakfast, I returned to my room with a full stomach, removed my sword and armor, and took a deep breath.

「Huh… I haven’t slept much after all, so I think I’ll take a… double nap!」

We had been training pretty much until sunrise, so that little nap on the floor definitely didn’t help our fatigue.

It’ll probably late afternoon or evening when old Worm wakes up anyways.

I’ll get the tool bag when I wake up

As I sank into the neatly made bed, a unique soothing scent of sunshine stimulated my nostrils and brought on sleepiness.

I woke up just before dusk.

I guess I was more tired than I though and fell into a very deep sleep.

After all of this time, I’m sure old Worm will be up by now.

I sluggishly dressed myself and headed to the Royal Magic Institute with Rook, who was now in a much better mood.

As expected, I don’t really feel like taking requests today, so I won’t be making a detour to the Adventurer’s Guild

When I got off Rook after arriving he told me in a squeak that if I left him alone, he would send me home to his parents.

I’m not quite sure what that means, but that must be one serious squeak.

I stepped into the building to make things as quick as possible and walked down the corridor facing the courtyard to Worm-jichan’s lab.

On the way, I stopped when I saw someone walking towards me from across the courtyard.

If it were old Worm I can’t help but hope that he wouldn’t stop and go into an all-out dash, but I’m honestly not so sure.

「…We meet again. Do you like it here?」

「No, I’m just here on a quick errand today. Are you… collaborating on research again?」

I greeted the beautiful Elven woman in front of me, Illi-san, and asked her back.

「Yes, you’re right… Well, no. It’s a little different today.」

Illi-san’s tone is somewhat slurred but Elves are a race that is rarely seen in the city.

Not to mention…

Name: Illi Froese

Race: Elf

Age: 24

Job: Court Magician

Specialty: Spirit Link

Skills:

Spirit Magic Lv2 (38/50) Archery Lv2 (18/50)

Illi-san is an elf who can handle spirit magic. It’s understandable why she’s being asked to help with research. She’s a valuable resource.

Hmm… I gathered up my courage to look at Illi’s status and found something rare.

《Spirit Link》– The more spirits you use, the more your spirits’ abilities will be enhanced

It’s not a skill, but it’s a fascinating speciality

It feels like it would work best when combined with elven-specific spirit magic

「I’m getting some strange looks from you, Seiji-san, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to stare at a woman like you currently are.」(TL: MTL says I’m getting some strange looks from you, Seiji-san, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to stare at women like you’re licking them too much. I’m not sure what that means)

Huh!

「What are you talking about… I’m not doing any such thing」

「I hope so… it’s strange. For some reason, I had the illusion that Seiji-san was peering deep into my body.」

Stupid. I just focused my attention on Illi-san’s face for a moment

This girl is too sharp.

「And by the way, Illi=san can use Spirit Magic, right? I’d be happy if you could show me what it’s like.」

Although I have only just been able to confirm that she possesses spirit magic skills, it is clear from my conversation with her and old Worm yesterday that she can control spirits.

It shouldn’t be unnatural for me to make such a statement.

「If you’re interested, I can show a little, but don’t provoke me too much, we’re a little excited right now.」(TL: Weird plural pronoun. Probably we as in me and the spirits, but IDK)

As if to say, Illi-san moves her mouth slightly and mumbles something.

Instantly – a blinding flash of light illuminated the area, and then the light began to slowly shrink as if it werer converging, finally becoming a glowing spherical mass.

The mas wriggled around as if it had a will, and the in the middle of the sphere you could see what looked like an expression.

「This is… a spirit」

「Yes, this is the Spirit of Light – Luce. I’ve made contracts with various other spirits, but it would be dangerous to bring them all out at once, so it’ll just be her alone for now」

「… contract?」

「Yes, but it’s no problem to recognize it like you’re making friends with a spirit and promising to lend them your power」

I see.

Spirit magic seems to literally call upon spirits to help you. If your skill level rises, you’;’ be able to make friends with higher-ranking spirits.

I’d like to meet a similar Spirit of Light, if there’s a being like a Great Spirit somewhere.

I reflexively focused my attention on Luce, but no status was displayed. Perhaps it doesn’t fit into the category of life form or item.

「It’s a little different from attribute magic, which embodies your own image, but it’s a very reassuring ally. It can be fickle, but it can also sense danger and tell you when you’re in danger.」

For some reason, Illi’s face clouded over a bit, and she whispered the name of the spirit again.

The spirit called Luce’s spherical body grew smaller and smaller until it finally lost its original form and melted into the air.

「What’s wrong?」

「No, I think that I may have overdone it… a bit」

What does she mean?

「Oh, by the way, Seiji-san, you said you had something to do, so I’ll be going now.」

「Thank you very much, I’ve never seen a spirit before, so I was very impressed」

Illi-san smiled back at my impressions, and then disappeared down the hallway.

Hmm…

Spirit magic…. huh.

Looks interesting, but I can’t handle it as a human, so I have no choice.

We should prioritize the tool bag over that now.

If I go too late, there may be a future where Rook is left outside alone.

Then I’ll have to go to his parents’ house to apologize.

I mean… where even is his parent’s house?

I came to the front of Worm’s lab, knocking on the door and pushing it open.

— Things are still scattered around the room, but is it my imagination or does it seem to be even more messy?

「… Seibo huh…」

A shadow crouched at the edge of the room wavers and rises. It’s old Worm

By the way, Seibo is a nickname for me, born out of a strange friendship we had after training through the night.

But what’s wrong with him?

His body is shaking, I wonder if he’s caught a cold from pushing himself too hard.

「Um… I’ll get the tool bag you promised me」

「Right, right. I’ll certainly give this to Seibo as promised.」

Old Worm reached into his robe and pulled out a rat-colored bag of magical tools

Just one more persistent reminder when I receive it…

「Really, don’t abuse the magic I taught you」

If that rule isn’t followed I’m considering invoking the Thief’s Godly Skill and stealing his light magic skill from him.

「…… of course」

Grandpa Worm replied, but unlike yesterday he had a strange, frightened look in his eyes

After finishing my business, I said goodbye to Worm-jichan and headed home from the Royal Magical Institute

The evening is already turning dark.

At the edge of my field of vision, a streetlight with a fantastic light moves to illuminate the area.

Gazing at the warm light, I felt a pang in my chest.

….. I wonder how everyone is doing right now.

— Did Lim arrive safely in the Suven Empire…..

As I rode Rook through the waterway leading directly to Bellyful Flavors, I looked up the sky and suddenly thought of that.
