――I’m back again)

The Rave Mountains rise between the Kingdom of Richele and the Empire of Suven, serving as the official border between the 2 nations.

At the break in the ridge, where the elevation is somewhat lower, there is the fortified city of Bernica. The city of Bernica serves as a key point of communication between the countries, and like the port city of Pasqueum to the far west, it is filled with various goods, but there is also tension in the air.

Although there is now shadow of conflict on the surface, few people truly believe that the two countries are friendly.

The reason why the Suven Empire, which has been expanding it’s territory while invading other countries, has not invaded the Richele Kingdom is because of the Rave Mountains.

It was only natural that Bernica, who was responsible for monitoring the border to ensure that no invasion was allowed, would have a somewhat tense atmosphere.

Nevertheless, the boulevards and other areas where various goods are displayed are full of activity, and the voices of merchants with their sales pitches can be heard everywhere.

In the midst of all this, a beastman girl was walking around, looking around.

Her honey-colored eyes dart around, her ears twitching as she gazes into a space decorated with various products.

The girl – Lim – had visited here before with her father, taking the route from the Suven side to the Richele side.

But to be honest, she doesn’t remember much about the city, because at that time, she didn’t have time to pay attention to my surroundings.

Lim was reminded of the fact that this was such a vibrant place.

「You’ve got to get a grip, you’ve said it yourself.」

Lim lightly slapped her own cheeks with both hands, as if to raise her spirits.

Her father, who was always with her, is now gone.

I told my friend who offered to accompany me with a worried look on his face that I would be fine on my own.

(…..but I might be a little nervous)

Her father, Arnold, is dependable, but Lim herself felt that she relied on him too much

I have no doubt that he would have come with me on this one, if I had asked him to.

But the feeling that she didn’t want to be spoiled by relying on h9im any more swelled in the girl’s heart and became words.

By now, you’re probably on your way to the Western Archipelago countries with your old friend Dore, who you haven’t seen in a long time.

Lim looked up at the solid walls that gave Bernica it’s name, The Citadel, and then at the large gates beyond.

In Bernica, which also serves as a borders customs office, you will be asked to show your ID when you pass through the gate.

Merchants and other were allowed to enter the city only after the goods they brought were censored and customs duties collected

That’s why there is still a line of people waiting for their turn at the gate.

Thinking of getting through to the Suven empire by the end of the day, Lim quietly waited at the end of the line for her turn, while thinking about another boy who was not her father.

The boy who worried about accompanying me – Seiji – may have also arrived at the Royal Capital.

Thinking about Seiji makes Lim feel a bit complicated.

Although he was a human of a different race, he tried to cheer me up and we soon became friends because we were close in age.

That comforting feeling that made me feel slightly warm in the chest when I was with him is something I have never felt even when playing with my friends back in the beast village.

When he asked me if I wanted him to go with me, I was very happy, but like father, I felt bad about having to ask him to take care of me any longer, so I said I was okay.

I’m sure he can understand why.

Seiji was not much older than me, but he had extraordinary fighting skills.

Compared to humans, beastmen are supposed to have superior physical abilities, but in terms of martial arts skills, magical background, and even physical abilities, I was no match for Seiji.

After worrying so much of my family in the past due to my lack of strength, I have been making an effort to become stronger.

In the end, however, it was Seiji who rescued Marita, the daughter of the lord we befriended in Merveille.

That was something I was honestly happy about, but it was still fresh in my mind that I wished I had more power.

Of course, I knew that it was wrong to direct this feeling towards Seiji.

That’s why I decided to take some distance and train myself on this trip.

— While Lim was running these thoughts through her head, the line of people waiting for their turn seemed to have dwindled considerably.

A few more people and it will be my turn.

But–

「Eeeehhhhh!!! If there’s such a thing tell me about it first!」

My ears picked up the sound of someone shouting.

It’s not a man, it’s a woman.

「Do something about it, please. Such a pretty girl is desperately asking for help like this. You have a child around my age, don’t you, uncle? Please help me out!」

「What’s not good enough is not good enough. Other people are waiting. Out of my way. And the next girl is even prettier!」

Trying to get a peek at whoever was at the center of the commotion, I poked my head out of the line a bit to get a better look.

Apparently, a woman had gotten stuck at the checkpoint.

If you look at the small amount of luggage, she clearly isn’t a merchant. If she was she would likely have identification on her.

「Tsk, Tsk, tsk… I’m asking you so honestly. It’s okay. It’s okay… I’m not cute anyways…」

The one with the sulky attitude was a girl not much older than me.

Her deep red hair is cut short, tracing the contours of her face, and she has a whining expression on her face, but if she were silent, she would be called cute.

Her purplish-blue eyes glowed with a disgruntled intent, and she turned to the soldiers at the checkpoint.

「Um, what’s wrong?」

Noticing the situation, I called out to the two arguing people.

At this rate, the queue is not going to go anywhere anytime soon.

「I’m in trouble because this girl is trying to get through without any ID. I’m sure you can understand…」

After coughing once, the solder gave me a look as if he wanted help. It seemed he though it would be better coming from a girl of similar age.

But there is only so much I can do.

The identification that I carry around is a guild card issued by the Adventurer’s Guild. Having lived in a beastman village that did not require such an ID, I knew of no other way.

「If you don’t have an ID, you could register with the Adventurer’s Guild? I’m sure there was a guild in this city, so it shouldn’t take too long.」

The red-haired girl moved her face closer to mine, and her crinkled eyes were no fully focused on me.

「Is that so? Hmm, but… I finally got my turn in this long line. And I don’t know where the guild is?」

Considering the fact that she had to wait in a long line again after registering with the guild and creating a card, it was understandable why the girl was being so pushy.

「Then, I’ll come with you. Is that okay?」

「What? You were in line weren’t you? If you do that you’ll be at the back again,」

Her azure eyes widened and the red-haired girl screamed out in a reaction that made her body turn upside down.

「Yeah, but you’re in trouble aren’t you?」

At my honest words, the girl raised her voice and scratched at her own crimson hair.

「Hmm… I’m really touched right now! A hand of salvation was extended to a lovely girl who was being abused by a heartless uncle.」

「Hey, hey, hey, who’s this heartless uncle? I’m just trying to do my job!」

「I’ll go to the Adventurer’s Guild as soon as I can.」

「Hey! Hey! I’m talking to you!」

The girl walked on, not paying any attention to the soldiers who were shouting at her.

She seems like a strange girl.

「Hey~, since I’m walking ahead of you, which way should I go~?」

But, she doesn’t seem like a bad person.

At the sound of the girl’s voice shouting from afar, me the soldier looked at each other and smiled.

The Adventurer’s Guild in the fortified city of Bernica is basically the same as the one in Merveille.

Basically, the guilds do not interfere in disputes between countries, so the request forms posted on the bulletin board were no as disturbing as such.

If an adventurer wishes to participate in a war in his home country, he must do so as an individual, not as a member of the guild.

It was a natural consideration for a guild that existed all over the world

Also, the position of non-interference in conflicts will temporarily cease to apply if any countries commits an act that discredits the guild.

I glanced at the request form on the bulletin board, checking the contents of my wallet.

I split the rewards from the requests I’ve received so far, and the rewards from Marita’s escort request with Arnold.

I have…. two gold coins left, plus a few silver and copper coins.

It’s a little over 20,000 drachmas.

It’s enough for a short stay in the Suven Empire, but not enough if I want to equip myself properly.

My current clothes and weapons are getting somewhat damaged, so I need to think about purchasing new ones somewhere else.

I came to the guild with the red-haired girl and waiting for her to finish the formalities, while I thought about my future itinerary.

「Yahooo~, did you wait? Thank you so much. If you hadn’t done that, the man at the checkpoint would have forced me to do something obscene instead of going through the gate~」

The girl hugged me from behind and clung to me while thanking me with some very questionable words.

「Well, have you registered yet? If so, I’d like to–」

However, the red-haired girl was refusing to let go of me.

「Ehehe~, actually, there is a bit of a problem, they charge me a registration fee, and I have to confess that I was penniless, or …..」

I was indeed stunned by this.

Borrowing money on a first meeting is not something to be praised. If Arnold were here, he would certainly have a much harsher attitude.

「You know what—」

「Please. I’ll never forget this favor. Onegaishimasu~!」(TL: This is just the Japanese equivalent of please, in case you somehow didn’t know that)

This girl, with her strange and irresistible vibe, continued to cling and plead to me, even when I twisted my body to get her off.

It was a bit troubling. I looked around and realized that several eyes were staring at them, and stopped resisting out of embarassment.

「Mmmmmm!!」

「Yay~!」

A girl is now jumping up and down in joy holding a new guild card.

….. In the end, I ended up shouldering the fee.

She was quite forceful, but seeing the girl laughing happily, the thought that this was the right thing to do was slowly spreading through my heart.

(Well, I have to go now…)

It’s time to get in that long line again, if we want to cross the border today and reach the next city while there is still light.

With that thought in mind, I quickly left the Adventurer’s Guild

— But then I got turned around

「Hey, wait a minute~~. I said I’d return the favor, so let me return it. It’s terrible that you’re just going away without telling me.」

Now I was filled with anxiety, wondering if this was really the right thing to do.

However, I couldn’t bring myself to treat the cheerful girl disrespectfully, so I took a deep breath and reached out to shake her hand.

With an opponent so aggressive, I might as well respond in a dignified manner.

「I’m Lim. And you are?」(TL: She says her full name is Lim Fung, but IDK how to Japanese-ify Fung so I ignored it. If someone knows please leave a comment)

The girl’s face broke into a smile at my self-introduction, and she took the guild card around her next and shook my hand with a sly smile.

「I’m Shania. Shania Blaze. I’m a new adventurer, but it’s nice to meet you, senpai!」

And so, we turned to the gate to cross the border once more.

Waiting in line didn’t turn out to be that boring, as Shania asked me many questions about my travels.

She could understand my situation to some extent, and nodder heard pretty seriously.

「Hmmm… So, should I return the favor by helping you find your mother? Or maybe punish the demon tribe? Oh, but that’s going to make him nag me!」

As per usual, I can’t tell if she’s joking.

「Who’s that guy?」

「Nyahahahaha. Don’t worry. It’s just my story. Anyway, if there’s anything I can do just let me know, I’ll help you as much as I can. Oh, it’s almost time.」

The soldier manning the checkpoint caught sight of Shania and immediately gave her a look of obvious disgust.

「Excuse me. I’ve brought the right one this time, so if you look at me like that, I’ll be hurt」

The soldier finally relaxed his expression after checking both of our guild cards.

This gate truly does separate this country from the rest of the world.

For some, just passing through the gates is surely enough to make them feel as though they have stepped into a different country.

「Hiya~~~, it’s huge!」

「Yeah. When I saw it for the first time, I told my dad the same thing. Speaking of which, what kind of place is Shania’s hometown?」

In response to my question, Shania placed her fingertips a little on her head and slowly tilted her head back.

「Hmmm. It was a rather closed environment, you know. There weren’t that many people. ……」

I turned my attention back to Shania, who was slurring her words, and noticed that a crowd had formed just beyond the gate. It seems that a cart with a large load has fallen over.

「What is that?」

「Mmmmm! Lim’s the type of girl who can’t leave someone in trouble, right?」

「Like you?」

Shania stumbled back dramatically, holding her chest.

Apparently she wasn’t very aware of that.

「Ugh… and you’re going to go there anyway, right?」

— As the two approached, curses filled their ears

The owner of the voice may be someone else, but it brings back a few bad memories in my mind.

「Don’t be silly. What do you think I’m bringing someone like you here for!」

Apparently, the card carrying a large amount of cargo could not bear its own weight and collapsed due to the incline

「Damn it, what’s with the treat with the Western Archipelago? From now on, we should prioritize quality over quantity in our business. If it were that easy, we wouldn’t have any trouble at all.」

The merchant making the noise seems to be from the Suven Empire side.

The treaty that was recently signed included a sentence about lowering tariffs between the Kingdom of Richele and the Western Archipelago nations.

As a result, when goods are brought in from the Suven Empire side, it is now difficult to conclude a deal with the price simply adding the tariff as before.

If it is of good quality, it may be in demand even if it is expensive, but few people will bother to buy the same quality, or inferior quality items at a premium price.

But that wasn’t what I was interested in.

The rough merchant is verbally abusing a beastman.

He looked exhausted, but he appeared to be doing his best to bring the fallen cart back, but it isn’t budging.

The cavalry beast that was pulling the cart also seemed to have escaped from the impact of the fall.

「Hurry up! The only thing you’ve got going for you is your arm strength.」

Unable to resist the merchant’s words, I stepped forward from the crowd and stared at him.

「Hey, what’s up with you? Do you have a problem with that?」

I made an effort to ignore the merchant, standing beside the out-of-breath beastman and reaching for the cart.

「Ha …… ha ha. It’s called camaraderie with one’s own kind. But for a girl like you to help me–」

The mass of a cart carrying a large load is considerable.

The huge cart lifted just a little, making a slight creak, but it wasn’t enough to put it back together.

「Hmm, hmm. If you can’t do it, then don’t do it in the first place. Mostly you guys. …..」

「Yes, yes. Stop. If you say anything else to my benefactor, I will throw this cart to the foot of the mountain range.」

Now it was Shania who had interrupted the merchant.

The merchant tried to say something back, but was stifled as if he were choking as he was shot in the dark blue eyes.

「It’s dangerous, so Lim and that beastman over there, back off a bit.」

Quick as she could, Shania dropped her stance and grabbed the handle of the overturned cart.

「……good riddance.」

She stood up with a light shout, as if she were lifting a handbag.

The cart was lifted up so lightly that it seemed to ignore gravity, but the moment it touched the ground, it made an earth shattering sound.

「Yahooo~, I guess that was lighter than I thought. So, does the merchant there have anything to say? I don’t like people who can’t say thank you properly..」

It took a few moments for the open-mouthed merchant to come out of his rigid state.

「Sorry, I’m sorry. Thank you….」

「Good」

「Shania… is quite amazing, aren’t you」

「Hmmm, as far as I’m concerned, I think Lim is more amazing for taking me to the guild so graciously right then and there. Now, we have to get to the next town before nightfall, right?」

TL: The chapter started with a really weird mix of third person narration and first person dialogue, so I made the whole thing first person for consistency and now this weird part shows up and will sound really weird if it’s converted so this part is now in third person.

「Wow, that’s so soothing!」

After crossing the border, Shania and I decided to stay at an inn in a town at the foot of the steep mountain road down.

Shania received a small gratuity from the merchant, and seemed pleased that she didn’t have to borrow from me for today’s lodging.

— And so, what are they doing now….

「Ahh… it’s like my tired body is melting away.」

Peeking out from the steamy surface of the water is Lim, her chestnut hair in a short bun. When her amber eyes turn to the girl beside her, Shania turns over and sinks her face into a buzzing froth.

「Uuu~, I’ve lost… ~~~~」

— They are taking a bath at the hot spring attached to the inn.

The two of them, clad in all of their finery, were in the midst of loosely healing the fatigue of their hurried walk.

As a fighter who focuses on martial arts, Lim sometimes feels that her breasts, which have grown fuller than when she was a child, are a hindrance.

「It’s a luxurious problem, isn’t it~」

Shania, who had been sinking into the hot water in a state of weakness, peeked out.

But even Shania is not physically young.

Shania knew that she was defeated when she was in the changing room, but when she took off her cloak and the strange clothes decorated with scales, her body was revealed with all of it’s feminine curves

Though supplely muscled, the soft bulge remains unimpaired and assertive.

「Be big~」

Shania, half in desperation, swiftly drifts past the Lim.

Suddenly seeing something on Shania’s back, Lim let out a questioning voice.

「Huh? Shania’s back… is that real」

「Hmm? Oh, here it is. It’s real. Please don’t rip it off. No, really, I’m not pretending」

The garment Shania wore was also one with scales stuck to it, but Shania’s back also had similar scales growing on it.

「Is this….?」

「I see, I see. I hadn’t told you yet. The guild staff was surprised to see me when I registered. Is it really that rare~?」

Shania, her white skin burning with heat and her back slightly reddened and unprotected, turns her heard towards Lim and confesses in an amused manner.

「Because I’m– a Dragonewt」

TL Notes:

God that was messy. I’ve learned a lot translating these 2 chapters, so it should get easier in the future. Please point out any glaring errors in the comments if you find them.

Also, I mentioned it towards the end, but the chapter was originally written in a bizarre combination of third and first person, but I chose to do the majority of it in first person, except for the end where it wouldn’t make sense.

Doubled up today so that you guys would know that this wasn’t a random one off translation. Will try to drop a chapter at least every 2-5 days. If there is anything else you guys think I should translate tell me in the comments. If I’ve read it or it looks good I may catch up and translate that as well.

Also, something I found funny, though I doubt you’ll really care. If I paste in multiple lines to DeepL it copies over the html, and for some reason the translation is different if that html isn’t there. Doesn’t change it majorly, but some of the words will just be different for some reason.

Please report us if you find any errors so we can fix it asap!
