I gradually opened my eyes, blinking away the drowsiness that had enveloped me for quite some time. Observing the dimness of the room, it seemed that I had been sleeping for quite a while. I relished the familiar sensation of the pillow and blankets, gazing up at the ceiling as I lay there.

I wondered who had moved me to this room. Even if I boasted of my lightweight nature, Debra couldn’t have possibly relocated the body of a fainting adult woman all by herself. In that case, it must have been either Kamian or Jex. There was a high probability that it was Kamian, to be honest.

I blinked my eyes in an attempt to shake off the lingering drowsiness that clung to me lightly. My eyelids felt incredibly heavy, and I could sense the puffiness even without looking. Suddenly, a dizzying sensation swept over me.

“Oh, could it be?”

Did Debra tell Kamian about the mess I had caused? If so, Kamian wouldn’t leave me alone. His sensitivity was at its peak, and he would be even more devoted to taking care of me, pushing his own desires aside in the process.

“Ah, this won’t do.”

I couldn’t simply lie still in this state of unease. Just as I was about to attempt to sit up, I heard a knock at the door. Tension stiffened the back of my neck. Then, the door swung open.

“You’re awake.”

As expected, it was Kamian who owned the knock. He held a plate in one hand and approached with long strides, extending his legs. In that brief moment, I frantically searched for excuses, but before I could find a suitable one, he placed the plate on the side table and sat on the edge of the bed.

The savoury scent of potato soup stimulated my salivary glands. To feel hungry in such a situation… I chewed on the inner flesh of my cheek, gnawing it until it hurt, consumed by self-reproach. Pull yourself together.

The lamp flickered to life. The sunset-like glow pushed away the darkness, casting a comforting brightness around the bed. Kamian, having lit the lamp, combed my hair with his warm, large hands and gently wiped away the corners of my eyes with his thumb, cradling my cheeks.

“You look unattractive.”

Hearing those words spoken with a voice brimming with affection did not bother me in the slightest. While Kamian pressed firmly against my cheek, I quickly examined his face.

When Kamian became overly concerned about me, he emitted an intimidating aura. Fortunately, the Kamian before me seemed serene, still exhibiting the mischievousness I was accustomed to. Perhaps Debra hadn’t said anything. With lips that pouted like a crucian carp, I asked him.

“Why didn’t you wake me?”

“You told me not to wake you.”

I ransacked my memories, but I couldn’t recall saying anything similar. Kamian kept his gaze fixed on my lips as he expanded and compressed his palm against my cheek.

“Who said that?”

“Debra. She said you were exhausted from changing the bed sheets alone.”

“…Ah, right.”

Debra had even lied to cover up the fact that I had vomited. It was fortunate for me, but a large question mark formed in my mind. Why? I wanted to meet Debra immediately and talk about it, but it was too late at night, and Kamian, who was scrutinizing my face, didn’t seem inclined to retreat easily.

“How long did you sleep to have such swollen eyes?”

“…I’m hungry.”

I hastily withdrew his hand, fearing that he might discover my tears, and swiftly turned my head. After picking up the plate on the coffee table, I took a seat at the desk. As I carefully lifted the soup, my trembling hands caused half of it to spill onto the floor.

Though hidden by my body, Kamian must have sensed something was amiss. When I glanced back, our eyes met. At that moment, I almost dropped the spoon. There was a dark, menacing gleam in his eyes, as if he were barely containing an impending explosion. An indiscernible sense of unease dug into my flesh.

I remained speechless, helplessly meeting Kamian’s gaze. Soon after, his tightly sealed lips parted. The taut air seemed to release itself, as if questioning what had held it captive.

“Are you just looking to be fed, right now?”

“…”

Childish words came out from his mouth as usual. I couldn’t muster a retort and foolishly stuttered. What was that chill I just felt? Was it a figment of my exhausted mind? I pressed my heavy temples with my palm, alternating between pressing and releasing.

When Kamian stood up, as if he were truly about to feed me, I hurriedly reached out and restrained him.

“I was about to tell you to stop. If I end up with a hole in the back of my head, you’ll take responsibility, won’t you?”

“What’s the big deal?”

“What’s the big deal? Seriously, just sit there quietly. If you don’t want to be chased away.”

Kamian moved his foot back, took a step forward and obediently sat back down on the bed.
