Sherry’s mind returned to her after she let out a loud burst of tears, proclaiming that she would give up her own brother. As I tried to console Sherry, Kamian swiftly took action before me. With one arm, he embraced Sherry and used the other to wipe her tear-stained face.

“Shouldn’t we hear Leo’s perspective as well?”

Well, what about my perspective?

“No! Leo also spoke favourably about Liv.”

“In the two years since he left for the capital, his feelings may have changed.”

“Well, um… if Liv ends up with Kamian…”

“Liv is keeping me. After Sherry grows up as much as Liv, she can come and claim me.”

Sherry’s lips pouted, but perhaps because it was Kamian’s words, she didn’t throw a tantrum. She tightly held onto Kamian’s neck and gently wiped her tear-soaked face against his shoulder.

“Eat lots of vegetables and grow quickly.”

“Okay.”

Sherry’s desire to not be left behind by Kamian’s attempts not to fall behind me put an end to our drawing game. Every time Sherry met my gaze, she demanded that I turn Kamian around for her, threatening me with a vow not to play with me for the rest of her life.

Though it was a misunderstanding, Sherry’s resentment towards me reached its peak, likely due to the somewhat shocking scene of Kamian and me embracing. Even taking a single step felt uncomfortable as I had to be cautious. At this rate, even breathing might be taken as a fault, and I might hear some complaints. Is this how it feels to be married in Korea, something I only heard about?

Late at night, after we finished our dinner. Sherry lay in bed, her eyes wide open. As Kamian read her a bedtime story, she perked up her ears and smiled with happiness.

As Kamian and Sherry affectionately stayed together on the bed like a loving sibling pair, I sat on a wooden chair a step away, observing them. Oh, how bittersweet. Kamian raised the blanket behind him and looked out the window.

During the day, the rain poured as if there were holes in the sky, but now the rainfall had fortunately lessened to a drizzle. If it continued like this, I wouldn’t have to worry about getting wet on the way home tomorrow.

A soothing low voice, fitting for the night, put my ears at ease. My gaze remained fixed outside the window, while my ears were attuned to Kamian. Suddenly, a sharp pain struck my chest, almost making an audible sound. My back bent unexpectedly, and I couldn’t hold back a cough.

“……”

Kamian’s voice abruptly cut off. Oh no, not now. I thought I would remain quiet for a few more days, but of all times, the cough decided to surface today.

“Cough, ah, sorry. That’s… cough.”

I attempted to cover my mouth with the back of my hand, but the cough that surged from within me burst forth, inflating my cheeks like balloons.

Kamian set the fairy tale book aside and walked toward me. Behind him, I caught a glimpse of Sherry’s face, filled with concern as she looked at Kamian. With my other hand, the one not covering my mouth, I gently pushed Kamian away.

“It’s alright, ah. Go get the fairy tale book, [cough]”

As I forcefully suppressed the cough, tears welled up in my eyes and my face grew flushed. Kamian bent down on his knees, locking eyes with me, and forcibly removed my hand that was covering my mouth. Like a dam bursting open, the cough erupted uncontrollably. My body leaned forward involuntarily. Before I knew it, my forehead was resting against Kamian’s chest. His large hand soothingly stroked my back.

Gradually, the cough subsided. Though a lingering feeling of constriction remained in my chest, I could bear it. I breathed heavily, leaning on his narrow chest and stretching out my body.

With his lips pressed against the top of my head, Kamian softly whispered.

“Let’s go to bed.”

I nodded once in response.

“Don’t pretend to be in pain!”

The sharp exclamation caused my half-closed eyes to snap open. I tried to sit up, but Kamian wouldn’t let go.

“Sherry.”

Kamian’s voice was low, and with a final, sorrowful sob, a wailing sound filled with despair escaped. Instinctively, I let out a sigh.

“Why are you scolding Sherry? Liv, [sigh], Liv tried to take me away!”

The wrenching sobs seemed unbearable, as if my breath would give out. I had to calm him down quickly… I quickly tapped Kamian’s forearm.

“Go to Sherry right away. She won’t like it if I go.”

“….”

“Hurry.”

With a firm command, Kamian finally released his grip on me. Sherry was sobbing uncontrollably, and Kamian covered her with the blanket that had slipped off my back, lifting her chin to make her look up. His crimson irises pierced through my face.

“Just wait a moment.”

“No, there’s no need. I’m tired and will go to the room first.”

“I’ll take you there. Just sit still.”
