The voice calling me from beyond the door felt eerily ominous, like a beckoning spector from the netherworld. My patience had surpassed its limits, escalating to a dangerous level. To illustrate the extent, even Kamian, who stood right beside me, was unable to maintain his composure.

How did things spiral so far out of control? All because of that accursed backpack!

Let’s rewind time a little, back to yesterday. I met Leo as usual. Prior to meeting Leo, I took a moment to glance into the mirror and tidy up my hair, not forgetting to feign a nonchalant hum. Everything seemed fine up until that point. Jex even remarked, “You seem to be enjoying yourself, Liv.”

However, the problem emerged at Leo’s house.

Even amidst the incessant rambling of explanations, I clung to a glimmer of hope. The backpack was nearly empty, exposing its bare bottom. If the backpack was completely empty, there would be no need for further explanations. The torture of enduring such explanations would be spared.

Leo turned the backpack inside out. Finally, it had come to an end! I thought there was nothing more to come, but then a pen, emanating a glimmering light, rolled across the desk. Leo swiftly picked up the pen and started babbling about how he had to line up since 3 a.m. just to buy this pen. Well, it was just a pen. I could tolerate it with a generous heart.

When Leo finished his pen-related explanation, I sincerely smiled for the first time.

“How fascinating and diverse the items in the capital city are.”

Leo wiped his forehead with a handkerchief, sweating profusely.

“What I brought is only a tiny fraction.”

“Indeed.”

“It would be great if you could visit the capital city. If that day ever comes, I’ll show you even more.”

“I don’t think that day will ever come.”

I firmly declined with a smiling face. However, Leo had a tendency to only listen to his own words and disregard others. Completely ignoring my words this time as well, he suddenly unfolded a map and began enthusiastically circling various places. He even wrote in small letters, “A place Liv must visit.” It took tremendous effort to restrain the desire to tear that map to shreds.

Although I stared at him blankly, Leo remained blissfully unaware, engrossed in the perfect plan he had devised.

“But, worry not, Liv.”

“What am I not supposed to worry about?”

“I understand the immediate desire to go to the capital.”

“…No, it seems like you don’t know anything at all…”

“I knew you would think that, so I prepared.”

He walked briskly and stood in front of the wardrobe. In an instant, an indescribable sense of foreboding enveloped me. Without realizing it, I swallowed hard and anxiously looked at Leo. With a grand gesture reminiscent of a magic show, Leo opened the wardrobe door.

“There are so many things I want to show you! I went a little overboard for you.”

There were a whopping seven bulging backpacks that looked like they could burst. It was unbelievable. Seven of them!

“Insane. This must be a dream.”

“Haha. I didn’t expect to impress you to that extent. I feel a little embarrassed.”

As I tried to say something, Leo awkwardly scratched the back of his head. Apparently, he didn’t know the difference between being impressed and astonished.

When I saw the stacked backpacks, I genuinely felt dizzy. I told Leo that my head was hurting and quickly escaped, saying I would return home early today.

And the next day, right now.

Leo knocked on our door again, and I… I couldn’t muster the courage to enter the hell that awaited me with those seven backpacks.

“Aren’t you going out?”

Kamian asked.

“Uh, um?”

I couldn’t hide my confusion and looked back and forth between the door and Kamian. Even if it meant looking at Kamian, I knew I should open this door, but my hands and feet refused to move. Come on, walk forward. Open the door! However, my body, captivated by the terror of the backpacks, defied the commands of my brain.

Kamian silently looked at me like this. I remained still, enduring his gaze. Then, Kamian moved. No, this can’t be happening! Instinctively, I grabbed his finger. Kamian turned around, but I couldn’t find the words and could only roll my eyes.

“Um, well…”

My confused mind couldn’t come up with any excuses. As the silence stretched on, he opened the door without hesitation. As soon as Leo’s face came into view through the wide-open door, I let out a sigh tinged with resignation. Kamian, you son of a b***h. Just wait a moment.

“Uh… Kamian, hello.”

Since Kamian was right there, I couldn’t avoid him using the excuse of being in pain. I had no choice but to be dragged away by Leo, completely motionless.

As I let go of Kamian’s hand with a dejected expression, his long fingers nestled between mine. Thump. He hid the hand with interlaced fingers behind his back and exerted a subtle force. For a moment, I thought my heart was going to leap out of my mouth. After our last s*xual encounter, we hadn’t engaged in any physical contact, so the current touch felt particularly sensitive.

“Let’s just go back today.”

Leo furrowed his brow, unable to hide his displeasure.

“What?”

“Liv is feeling under the weather. She usually doesn’t venture outside during winter, but she pushed herself to meet you and ended up catching a cold.”

“Oh…”

Leo’s lips parted slightly, surprised by Kamian’s words. Then, a sense of guilt washed over his face. He seemed utterly perplexed, unsure of what to say or how to react.

“I had no idea… I’m sorry, Liv. I should have considered your well-being.”

I glanced at Kamian, wondering how he could lie so effortlessly without changing his expression.

Ahem. I cleared my throat and turned my head towards Leo.

“No, it’s alright. With a few days of rest, she’ll recover.”

“Um… Should I come here from now on?”

“Huh?”
