The heaviness of sleep eventually overcame me, and my eyes gently closed. Where could Kamian possibly have gone? Why didn’t he answer when I asked? Amidst the fading consciousness, Kamian and Debra’s voices alternated, but I couldn’t make out a single word they were saying. I was too drowsy.

Even as I slipped into slumber, my curiosity persisted. I’ll ask later… when I wake up, without fail.

“What’s the use of asking? What difference does it make to you wherever Kamian goes?”

In my dream, I sneered. It pained me not to refute her, but I couldn’t argue with the truth. I awoke from my sleep, unable to respond.

“Ah…”

Familiar ceiling came into view. I had clearly fallen asleep on the sofa, but somehow I had been moved to the bed. No need to dwell on it—Kamian must have moved me.

“Ah, how long did I sleep?”

“About two hours.”

I nearly let out a scream out of sheer astonishment. Kamian was sitting right next to me, nonchalantly looking down at me with an indifferent expression.

“You have a face that looks like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“That’s because you’re sitting next to me without a word!”

I groaned, clutching my pounding chest. I was genuinely and sincerely surprised. The mere thought of Kamian had consumed my mind even in my dream. If I had inadvertently blurted out “Kamian” aloud, he would have heard it loud and clear. Oh God, just imagining it makes me embarrassingly mortified.

“Is it my fault?”

“Then whose fault is it, if not yours…?”

His large hand wrapped around my wrist, lifting it up. Unbelievably, my hand gripped Kamian’s clothing so tightly that my knuckles turned white. In that moment, I unleashed a torrent of curses upon myself. Have I gone insane? What am I doing? Why am I holding on?

I quickly released my hand, as if to say, “Even if I can’t touch you, I did touch you.”

“You wouldn’t let go, that’s why.”

“…”

“Because of that, I wasted two hours just staring into space. Is that still my fault?”

…His red pupils mercilessly probed my conscience. Overwhelmed by both guilt and shame, I couldn’t bring myself to meet his gaze directly. Fidgeting, I flipped the blanket off, which disappeared eerily.

With a desolate gaze, I stared at the blanket that had fallen all the way down to my waist, then lifted my gaze. But… wait, is it really my fault? Doubt crept into my mind. If it were Kamian, he could have easily freed himself from my grip as effortlessly as taking a breath. It wasn’t that I held him back; it was that he chose not to go.

“Why do you have that look in your eyes?”

Kamian noticed the change in my heart and smirked incredulously, as if he found it amusing.

“I suppose you enjoyed looking at my sleeping face for two hours.”

“Wipe off the drool from your face.”

I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. Kamian quickly flicked his tongue, then bowed slightly. He held one side of my face firmly with his large hand and gently traced the corner of my mouth with his other hand, leaving a tender touch that made my mouth dry up.

He slowly stroked my cheek with his thumb. Aren’t our faces too close? My exhaling breath lightly brushed over my lips. I lowered my gaze, avoiding eye contact with his red eyes. Ah, my eyelashes trembled involuntarily, perhaps because I was tense and he might have noticed.

“Kiss me?”

“What are you talking about? Have you gone mad?”

I pushed his chest forcefully.

“You had that expectant look on your face.”

“It’s what you wanted, right!”

Kamian didn’t answer. His silence strangely bothered me. Either say yes or no.

I kept glancing at Kamian, trying to coax him, but he stubbornly refused to speak. The awkward silence settled when he kept his mouth shut.

Come to think of it, it’s been such a long time since I had this kind of back-and-forth conversation with Kamian.

Now that I’m awake, Kamian will soon leave the room.

“Kamian,” I said.

I grabbed the edge of his garment that I had let go of.

“It’s a full moon tonight.”

His brow slightly furrowed.

“I know.”

“Instead of tonight, can’t we do it now?”

It was an impulsive remark. And in order to attach a valid reason to my words, my mind raced. It’s safer to do it during the day so that I won’t be caught coughing at night. And whether we do it during the day or at night, it doesn’t matter to Kamian.

“Debra and Jex are both awake, aren’t they?”

His fingertips gently touched my forehead. As the strands of hair that were covering my eyes disappeared one by one, his face became clearer.

“…I’ll be quiet.”

“……”

“If you don’t trust me, you can even cover my mouth with your own.”

His eyes pierced with intensity. A rustling sound, as if heaven and earth were colliding, could be heard, and a familiar warmth overlapped on my body.

Kamian whispered to me.

“Can you really bear it without making a sound?”

I pursued my lower lip, nodding my head thoughtfully. With one hand, he unbuttoned my clothes and pulled down the collar, his gaze slowly climbing from the collarbone to the nape of my neck, then to my chin and lips. A shiver ran down my spine, causing a slight tremor in my shoulders.

“You always seem tense whenever we do this.”

“…,” I remained silent.

As if trying to ease my tension, he gently brushed his thumb against my neck, but it only added more pressure from head to toe.
